Anybody been to Beirut?

Hi all Ive booked a trip for a week in may and im planning on having a good look around the country

Has anyone any particular experiences or recommendations theyd like to share?

No, but would like to. Be careful though, it's not a very safe place, they've had terrorism issues for the last 40+ years.

I know things are never how they are portrayed in the media, however, Beirut and Lebanon in general are not a safe place to visit at the moment. Considering how they have a full-blown war going on just outside their borders. Lebanon itself has been mired in civil unrest, terrorism and wars with Israel.


My boss is from Lebanon and he visited it in December of 2016, and he said its fine once you get there (sort of like Pakistan) but there is always risk of terrorism and overall law and order situation isn't the best.

Zaituna Bay, Pigeon Rocks in Raouche, Corniche, and Bierut old city are few places to see in Beirut area.
Zaituna Bay has nice night life and lots of other activities, so does corniche. Piegeon Rocks is just for the scenery but deff worth a visit. There's some old parts of the city that are good to see and some museums.

There's a city called Baalbek (city of the Sun) which was part of the ancient world and a UNESCO world heritage sight. I think it's not too far from Beirut and could be done in a day's trip.

I went back in 2006 with my highschool friends who are from Beirut so im sure a lot has changed but it was a lot of fun. People are nice and the food is pretty good.

Thanks Yes i ll write an update once im back and yes from what ive heard its not as bad as its made out but at the same time theres certain precautions that need to be taken

We'll definetly take some local advise and hopefully there ll be no issues or concerns

My in laws went on a trip that included a short trip to Lebanon. They said it was nice and people friendly.

You could watch Anthony Bourdain No Reservations on YouTube about Lebanon. I liked the story about the 2 competing falafel stores, who hate each other even being blood brothers.

One thing you have to be careful is Halal. I heard from my Lebanese cafe owners that they are quite relaxed about Halal meat. they used to eat pork and serve it too.
