I am currently pursuing the CPA designation in Canada which if everything goes to plan should be achieved by Sept 2019. The next step for me would be to give one exam in the US and obtain the US CPA designation as well and then one exam in the UK with which i can get the ACCA qualification in the UK

I personally don't think i am cut out for surviving and excelling in the Corporate World in the long run. Based on my understanding of the accounting job market in Canada, only 20% of CPA's remain in public practice whereas everyone else just goes and works a regular job in industry where they aren't really applying their CPA designations.

The avg salary where CPA's tend to reach is around $100,000 plus. Sure some really bright CPA's who stick to the Big 4 rising up to senior managers and partners can make serious big money i.e. $400,000 to $1,000,000 but very few people get to this level and in any case it is a lot of stress and responsibility.

Other CPA's have the option of establishing their own practice where they deal with small businesses and those practices don't make more than $100,000 but if you hire staff and get more clients you can make more i.e. $300,000-$400,000 but it is still the same stress involved in running a practice.

My parents have now more or less decided that they will eventually down the line divide their time equally b/w America, Canada and Pakistan where they would spend the summers probably America/Canada and winters in Pakistan but knowing my mom i believe she will prefer to spend 75% of her time in Pakistan and 25% in Canada/US to enjoy quality time with my grand kids.

My personal preference would be to be as close to my parents as possible especially given that my mother has Parkinson's and i want to be a helping hand to them.

Hence i am now seriously thinking to move over to teaching in Pakistan after acquiring the accounting qualifications which i hope will add credibility.

What i am thinking and planning is what i have seen and observed many teachers in Pakistan do i.e. teach their respective subjects in different schools and universities in Pakistan where they can plan time table style from morning to evening daily, these teachers also offer private tuitions to students and i know of one guy who is regarded as one of the best guys to teach ACCA and he charges Rs 100,000 a month in exchange for quality one to one time with students.

But i know i have to make a lot of changes and improvements to myself and things to work on if i do go ahead with this further down the line.

Will be interested to hear people's thoughts and their own experiences on what they learn't during their journey

Private tutoring is a very profitable business in Pakistan. Professors who teach O-Levels and A-Levels earn a fortune by offering private classes. The money that they earn from their institutes is peanuts compared to the money that they make from private tutoring. However, the problem is that you need to build up your reputation before you get work.

It is a bit like running your private clinic as a doctor. No matter what your qualifications and expertise are, you won't get much business unless you make a name for yourself in your city, and that only happens after a period of time when people start recommending your name to others.

No matter how much expertise you have in your subject, it will be very difficult for you to penetrate the market because there will be other professors who will have more clout and will be well-known. It is not something that I would recommend if you are not ready to toil for many years before bearing the fruit.

I am not familiar with the rates nowadays, but just to give some perspective, back in 2006-2007 when I enrolled myself into a math tutoring class for O-Levels with the most renowned math professor in my city, I would pay 3,000 rupees/month for a three months course, and I had around 30 students in my class, and this was obviously not the only private class that he was teaching.

Back in 2006-2007, he was earning nearly 1 lakh rupees a month from only one class of 30 students, and the fees now must be double or even triple of that today. renowned professors in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and even Peshawar etc. probably make over 20 lakh rupees a month if they teach 3-4 classes per day.

Naturally, this is why i believe teachers first look to get teaching jobs in schools, colleges and universities and then also start offering private tuitions to test the waters as a way to build their names, reputations. However a few reliable success stories and then you can be bolder, ambitious. This is what i have seen people do.

I have seen a few overseas Pakistani's who had decent successful corporate careers abroad but they then decided to come back but they did not pursue the corporate path in Pakistan again but instead chose to go into real estate and some have gone into teaching. As they felt going into the corporate sector would be a backward step

A CPA is definitely over-qualified to be a full-time teacher in Pakistan. However, the biggest benefit is that it is a relaxed job with a steady income and a lot of job security, but the biggest downside is that there is not much room for growth and you will not be allowed to maximize your potential.

A CPA with foreign work experience will not find it hard to get a good corporate job in Pakistan, and in due time, you can also offer private tutoring if you have the time.

the fees today are 5000-7000 if you are renowned teacher.

If you are a good Tution teacher, your name spreads in the city. You easily end up getting 40 students per batch. Classes are for 30-45 mins.

My economics teacher used to teach 3-4 batches and a school job separate. I think he had about 120-160 students in academy alone.

Do you guys think there is demand for an English as a foreign language teacher in Pakistan? Shame the British Council don't have an active centre there for classes.

Some teachers take 25000/month for one on one classes..I know of two such teachers.

I didn't take tuitions in my A'levels but I took 3 tuitions in O2.I paid 5500/month to one teacher and 3000 each to the other two.The teacher I paid 5500 to,taught 500 students in around 6 batches.Do the math.He also taught at a prestigious school.

I gave tuitions to younger kids myself, charged 800/1000 for a subject per month.3 hours a week.Gave tuitions for a few months before exams.Thinking of starting again.

I am a teacher but unfortunately not in PK. Here in the UK, private tuition can be anything from £30-45 per hr depending on the subject and experience but with the amount of work and stress in term time, i havent done it very often.

Wow..... 5k-7k per month per subject?

How many subjects do students go for tuitions?

kids who come from rich families, attend school and also take tution classes. I have seen some students take 5 subjects for tution. This is mostly students from a school called roots which is one of the most over rated schools ever in Pakistan.

When i was attending school, i would take 1 tution class in the year. It would be the subject that had a crappy teacher in school, thus the only way to pass it was academy.

Thank you Major.

Do science students take tuitions to prepare for college entrance exams?

Here in India, most science students take tuitions during 11th and 12th standard to prepare for their college entrance exams (math, physics and chemistry).

NUST, which is amongest the top University's of Pakistan, there admission test is quite hard. An academy by the name of Kips gives coaching classes to past that test. The charges (i think) 20 thousand ruppees. I dont remember if this was per month or for all 3 months.

This sounds really bad. I've heard Korea also has a big after schooling tutoring problem. If Imran Khan could reform the education system there then these tutoring monopolies would become redundant.

Nope. Let me break down like this.

In Peshawar e.g one subject, 40 minutes. Minimum is 12,000.

In Rawalpindi, Islamabad, tuition fees starts from 16,000.

Haha, in PK, students take tuitions of 8th,9th,10th class. And 1st and 2nd year seems compulsory. But yeah, only for Chem, Phy, Bio, Maths.

2 years back when i was in teaching profession, my rates were

8th class student : Per subject 6,000.
9th & 19th : Per subject, 8000 or 9000
1st or 2nd Year : 12,000 per subject (45 minutes class).

(I am talking about Peshawar) IN cities like Lahore, Pindi, Islamabad, tuition fees are much highers than this.

Thankfully now i am no more a teacher :))

No, KIPS fees is now 25thousand, and their duration is of 03 months. But i must say, their notes e.t.c are excellent and it really helps.

In KPK, ETEA test for Medical / Engineering are extremely tough and teachers / academies earns lots from these 2 tests (Especially in Peshawar).

After doing 2nd year, those who wan to go to Govt Medical / Engineering Colleges in (KPK) they need to clear ETEA test which is no doubt, very hard. And almost all students join academies or private tutor in order to prepare themselves for this test.

Roots, roots are now everywhere in Pakistan but from personal experience, yeah they are highly overrated.

you mean home tutor right?

Because i was talking about academy's and their fee is betwen 5000-7000 in rawalpindi, the good ones.

Good for you....Haha.

These rates are for a yearly basis? Or 3 months?

Haha no no, per month :))

Here, there are 2 types. Regular tuition or a student want to finish the course in some specific time.

If tuition is regular, then above mentioned rates are to be followed.

But if some one wants to finish the whole course in 40,45 days for example (1st or 2nd year) then per chapter rate is 2,000 to 4,000. And in 1st, 2nd year, there are more than 12 chapters in every science course. So a teacher can earn around 30K easily within 40 days (from one tuition).
