What's new

Anyone watching the new Top Gear?

I watched it for literally 3 minutes and it was eye soaring they tried too hard to copy Jeremy Clarkson and co.

These lot should just focus on being themselves and build their own image rather than copying.

The good about the new top gear

1. The photography team is still doing a great job
2. As Chris said, it's with new and improved audience

The bad about the new top gear

1. Never really made me laugh or impressed in anyway

I'll give it some more time before I'd pass my verdict. Of course I knew it won't be as good as the previous one but I'm keen on giving it a shot. Waiting more for May, Hammond, and Clarkson's Amazon Prime show honestly but this can work as a stop gap arrangement.

I don't really blame Chris Evans, he was going to be poor as expected and never going to win over the fan base.

My biggest gripe is with the production, I was expecting an explosive, all bells and whistles, cars parachuting from outterspace with chimpanzee in tuxedos as co drivers type extravaganza from the 1st episode but it was seriously dull to watch.

The charm of top gear was seeing the presenters at work enjoying the best job in the world, what could we got was an american in a reliant robin strapped to a recovery truck being driving to a dull Blackpool in the cold and wet?? I lost interest because i actually felt sorry for Matt.

And a word about Matt, he is as bad a selection as Evans, a american is never going to win over the British public on a prime time motoring show, they lack a sense of local knowledge and humor that made top gear what it was famous for.

They should keep the Evans hosting for the 1st season, he will eventually quit himself, Matts spot should be rotated with a pool celebrity presenters from show to show, they will eventually find a combination that will work.

Funny how people prefer style over substance.

I much prefer the current presenters as they don't racially or physically abuse their co-workers. It's just basic human decency which maybe people obsessed with material possessions and inanimate objects like cars forget?

I'll give it a couple of episodes before trying to watch it.

I miss the old Top Gear, I used to watch it religiously and ever since it came on Netflix I had seen most of the episodes two or three times. It is my most watched series after Friends.

Didn't like it at all. I like how they got Chris Harris for the Extra Gear but I still prefer his own personal videos that he did for his YouTube channel.

The new guys should be given time - I do find Evans a little bit too 'shouty' though.

Anyway, they'll have to improve on the viewing figures if they want the show to be a success.

New Top Gear's viewing figures drop to lowest in a decade

However an average audience of 4.3 million watched from 8PM on BBC Two, the lowest start to a new series of Top Gear in at least a decade.

That figure is down on 2014's opening episode of the last series with Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May and 1 million viewers less than the trio's final episode on the BBC together in June of last year.

Top Gear was beaten by Countryfile over on BBC One, which had 4.4 million viewers.

Monkey Harris is very good - have followed his reviews since his Pistonheads days.

he does actual reviews rather than worry about tv ratings. Will be interesting to see if Top Gear actually discusses cars this time around or keeps the theme of being an entertainment show with cars. Tiff Needell should have made a come back to Top Gear

KSI's brother was invited to it

Haven't watched it. I never liked Chris Evans and I can't see the show working without the three idiots, who at their best achieved comic genius. Their drive across South America is one of my favourite hours of television, ever.

I like watching Countryfile with Mrs Robert. You learn all sorts about birds and otters and cottage meat pie production. Something nice and soothing to finish the weekend and help prefer for Monday morning.

Viewing figures dropped by 30% for episode two.

Finally got round to watching the first episode.

It feels dumbed down. These guys didn't start as motoring journalists, and the sense of history isn't there either. Matt LeBlanc is engaging enough but Chris Evans is doing a shouty impression of Clarkson, without the wit.

The excellent film-making is still there but the creativity of script isn't.

It might do well but I think it will be aimed at a less informed demographic.

Chris Evans seems childish and immature. Equivalent of.... Mushfiqur

Liked the second episode.

I've always watched top gear for the lols and scenery - now watching it for the scenery. It's an enjoyable watch so far and I'm beginning to get into it.

I also know that Amazon Prime has the previous presenters locked in as well so their show will be coming soon too.

The old top gear is dead - long live the new top gears.

Tough gig going up against Euro Championships and external Court issues might play bigger part in his decision than the gossip about him not getting on with production crew / other presenters.

I think consensus is some of the other guys have done well so worth giving them another series.

It's developing - the new young presenters did well. Now that Evans is gone, season 2 should do better.

I'm looking forward to The Grand Tour, though.

Gave it a watch. It's boring. No edge to it. Switched over to Dave and watched Clarkson's crew upset the Argentinian nationalists.

Top Gear: McGuinness and Flintoff announced as new hosts

Paddy McGuinness and Andrew Flintoff will be the new presenters of Top Gear, the BBC has confirmed.

The pair will take over from Matt LeBlanc, after he steps down from presenting duties at the end of the next series.

The comedian and former England cricket captain will join existing presenter and former racing driver Chris Harris to complete the new-look line-up.

Filming for the 27th series of the BBC Two show will begin in early 2019.

Rory Reid, who joined the Top Gear team after the departure of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, will no longer have a main presenting role.

He began fronting spin-off show Extra Gear in 2016, and went on to co-host the main programme alongside LeBlanc and Harris on the most recent series,

According to the BBC, he "will remain part of the Top Gear family", along with Sabine Schmitz, and will continue to be the face of Extra Gear.

Lancashire lads McGuinness and Flintoff - also known as Freddie Flintoff - were unveiled as the new faces of the motoring show on Monday morning.

McGuinness commented: "Getting the Top Gear gig is a real honour and I'm thrilled the BBC have given me this opportunity.

"To be hosting a show I've watched and loved from being a small boy is beyond exciting."

Ashes-winning former cricket captain Flintoff said: "It's not often you have the chance to do both of your dream jobs, but I'm now lucky enough to say I will have.

"I've always been passionate about cars and I'm so excited to be joining the Top Gear team."

The next series of Top Gear - LeBlanc's last as lead host and 26th overall - will begin early in 2019 on BBC Two, before Paddy, Freddie and Chris take over later in the year.

Flintoff retired from cricket in 2013 with a recurring knee injury and currently presents the podcast Flintoff, Savage and the Ping Pong Guy for BBC Radio 5 Live, alongside Robbie Savage and Matthew Syed.

It is unclear whether he will continue to host the award-winning show, which has helped him cement his new career as a presenter and broadcaster.

He has also previously been a team captain on Sky's A League of their Own.

Take Me Out presenter McGuinness rose to fame alongside fellow Lancashire comedian Peter Kay in programmes including Phoenix Nights and Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere.

Earlier this year Paddy hosted Sport Relief on the BBC with Claudia Winkleman.

Both McGuinness and Flintoff have a number of motoring offences to their names.

McGuinness avoided a driving ban last year after hiring the lawyer sometimes nicknamed Mr Loophole, Nick Freeman. Despite the star having previously pleaded guilty to the driving offence, the case was thrown out on a technicality.

Flintoff, meanwhile, has avoided a ban on several occasions after being caught speeding. In 2014, it was claimed a ban would have an adverse effect on his extensive charity work.

The cricket all-rounder was also stripped of his position as England vice-captain following a drunken escapade on a pedalo in the Caribbean during the 2007 Cricket World Cup in St Lucia.
