Any players who gets injured playing a domestic T20 tournament right before the WC deserves absolutely no sympathy.
Also, the boards would be equally to blame if any of their star players miss the tournament.
Kagiso Rabada played a lot of cricket for his country but knowing that, why did SA allow him to go and play in IPL?
Because CSA aren't Australia? They can't buy out IPL contacts.
Rabada's is not seriously injured anyway.

Proteas team manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee, says Rabada’s recall is precautionary based on his history: “Kagiso experienced stiffness in his lower back a few days ago and was taken for scans for further investigation. The scan results, combined with further assessment by our physiotherapist Craig Govender who is fortunately in Delhi, led the CSA medical committee to the decision to withdraw him from the remainder of the IPL. Kagiso has a history with back injuries and the CSA medical team is taking the best measures to ensure he is fully fit for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup starting this month. He will consult with a back specialist upon his return and proceed with a treatment and rehab programme.”
You are right. No one should sympathise with such players. You are one of the best bowler in the world and you have chosen to play in aTamasha League just before the World Cup for some easy money. Now please don't cry if your country suffers because of you in the World Cup.![]()
Injuries are part of any sportman's life, he could get injured while just jogging. It is his right to earn the money why are you judging and demeaning him.He has done nothing wrong, if he is injured and cannot play it is tough luck.
This abomination called IPL is like a cancer. If proper measures aren't taken to cure this disease it will eventually kill this beautiful sport.
Can't believe that this circus is still going on when wc is almost knocking on the door. Pathetic from icc for allowing this to happen. It is indeed a spineless sold out organization.
I think everyone knows injuries are part of the game so you are not telling us something new and special here.
Have you ever heard about rotation policy of bowlers in cricket? Why do they do that? Some bowlers used to skip useless matches just so they can play in important matches. So what's wrong in asking your main bowlers to skip some pyjama league matches to remain fit for an all important world cup?
May be world cup is just another cup for you but not for us. Every board and fan wants his key players to remain fit. I know you have to defend Rabada here because you love IPL but you should try to think logically here.
If everyone starts thinking like you then nobody will be left to play. I am not sure whether you watch wrestling or not but there also you will see wrestlers rejecting money/contracts for their health.
No one is putting a gun on the heads of players or boards to send their players there.
World Cup may be important for you.But earning money is more important for Rabada, you are not feeding his family. It is his livelyhood. He is entitled to use his talent to enhance his earning powers. He is playing cricket not football in IPL.
You are not entitled to judge anyone based on his willingness to play certain tournament, it may be silly in your eyes. Why should Rabada forfeit a million dollars on account of something. If he is injured or wants to take rest it is upto him.
Rotation policy is in effect in IPL too. There are only four foregin players allowed .That is reason why Rababda was pulled out of IPL after first sign of injury.Just because of world cup, IPL cannot be shut down.
If everyone starts thinking like you, players will never get a chance to earn. They are living people who have needs and wants. They all know they have very short shelf life .Stop being selfish and think from player point of view also. They know their bodies very well and better than you. They know what to do if they feel they need to rest they will rest.
I agree with the fact that it's the players who r risking it. If they wished they could've just simply slipped the tournament.
However my friend, we should keep in mind that they r doing to earn a huge amount of money.
It's just like performance enhancing drugs. Players will always opt to take these drugs to enhance their performance if there is no punishment involved.
It's exactly the same case here. Players will obviously try to earn as much as possible. But its the duty of respective authority, in this case icc, to make sure that players don't get the chance to play these useless leagues just before a major tournament like wc. Icc should've banned all sorts of domestic leagues 3/5 months prior to the start of the wc.

No one will remember if they did well in the IPL, the failure to represent their nation would be be very costly for them
I am not taking to it heart, I find it hilarious to hear people like you who think it is okay to comment on other people's right to earn their livelyhood. It seems you know about Rabada's body and family more than him lol. Calm down. I can and I will criticise his decision to play in the IPL just before the world cup. Not sure why you have to take it to your heart, act like his grandmother and stop people from criticising him here?![]()
Are you serious, IPL is being held same time every year. It is not their fault that ICC has world cup in June this year. So for sake of two or three players from every country (who are going to part of world cup) you want to deny 100 other players their chance to play and earn money.
Why are people jealous if players make money.

I think a good alternative would be to hold the IPL after the World Cup
Money talks, player walks.
IPL offers crazy money to players and Boards have no chance of stopping players playing.
Unfortunately, it happened there in the IPL in those two games that he played there.
If he didn't get picked up to go to the IPL, who knows where Dale would have been right now. We can't control that. So it is important for me that we make sure that we are there for him because I know he's been trying hard to make sure he is ready to try and make an impact on which will be his last World Cup.
Faf du Plessis's comment today on Steyn after he was ruled out from the World Cup -
So seems they have no control? sounds outrageous.
Steyn would have broke down during the tournament. How would he have played 9 games in 40 days with his shoulder ?
Injuries happen. They are part of sports.
Maybe if he had taken more rest his injury wouldn't have came back?
lol Resting has nothing to do with injury. It can happen at any time. He has been playing for 14 years in all formats.
So somebody forced Dale Steyn to sign up for the ipl. He wasn't even picked in the auction, he came in as a replacement. No one forces you to play in the ipl.
Also that little ball tamperer seems to be forgetting that Ngidi is out too and that happened in the first wc game, should players be rested in the first game then or is it not outrageous enough.
for cricketers who worship money, bcci is their bhagwaan & ipl is their world cup.

Thats the curious part of Faf's statement "no control" - Surely CSA has control.
It is upto the players. Nobody is forcing them to play. Rabada had stress fractures last year and still chose to play IPL ahead of the World Cup. Steyn chose to play despite having a troublesome shoulder.

Excellent by bcb!BCB denied Fizz IPL NOC for 2 years.
Also any Bangladesh cricketer can get a maximum of 2 NOCs per year. Shakib plays CPL and IPL. Riad in PSL and CPL. Tamim in PSL and UAE T10 league for example
.So resting has nothing to do with injury? Please elaborate further. From where do you get such 'gyan'?![]()
IPL is part of international cricket now and cannot be grouped with other franchise leagues like PSL, BPL, CPL, BBL etc. who are nothing but meek imitations of the giant that the IPL is today.
In fact, it is pretty much international cricket in franchise form. The game stops for about 1.5 months and all big international players take part in what is the highest form of T20 cricket in the game today.
Cricket boards and supporters have to make peace with it now. Getting injured on IPL duty is no longer different to getting injured on international duty. Besides, the cricket boards always have the option of recalling their players.
India itself is at a bigger risk than other boards, because their star players will never be allowed to skip tournaments.
IPL attracts international players because of money.Only Indians are excited about IPL.Fans from other countries are passionate about ICC events and bilateral series played by their own countries.I don't watch any IPL matches because I can't relate to IPL.It makes no difference to me which franchise wins IPL.IPL is part of international cricket now and cannot be grouped with other franchise leagues like PSL, BPL, CPL, BBL etc. who are nothing but meek imitations of the giant that the IPL is today.

That is where you are wrong because for me it is still an Indian league and I couldn't bother watching one game because there was nothing for me to associate with.
The international community might watch IPL or any other leagues to see few of their favourite players like AB or Gayle but don't have passion. They don't care if Mumbai or Riders win. But international cricket is different. There is passion involved and every player's performance is judged very closely.
I am sure SA fans will be devastated to see Steyn missing out his last wc for their team who was injured playing IPl.

Players are after money only. The standard of cricket in PSL is pretty good.IPL is not miles ahead of other leagues.Players are reluctant to play Pakistan due to security issues.Pakistan is not as dangerous as it is portrayed in by foreign media but it is not easy to change people's perception.IPL, like other franchise leagues that have made unsuccessful attempts to copy its success, was all about money initially, but after 11 years, it has developed a genuine fanbase and prestige.
I think if you give a player equal amount of money to play for Mumbai Indians or Lahore Qalandars, he will most definitely opt to play for the former.
