Are hacking groups like Wikileaks and Legion gaining more respect from people than media?

I just finished reading a book which had this issue as a backdrop "Purity" by Jonathan Franzen and from the eyes of the author it usually seems they most of these "hackers" or "whistle-blowers" could have a different personality compared to a common man.

There is defn a lot of manipulation or construction of news as far as mainstream media is concerned but I sometimes wonder if ignorance is bliss as I don't want to know the crimes my country or politicians/big business are involved in.

Nt after the current U.S elections . Its so obvious that that have an agenda and control to flow of information that have to help their cause. How are these guys so transparent if they are doing the same things they accuse of others of doing ?
