More than 70 killed in multiple armed attacks in Pakistan’s Balochistan

Relevance?

If you are an overseas Pakistani then it makes sense you will blame/ask questions to everyone else instead of your own government/military.

However, if you are a Pakistani citizen living in Pakistan, paying taxes to Pakistani government your ire should be on the government/military as it’s their responsibility to keep the country safe.

Overseas citizens, be it if any country, generally are ones who talk big while living in freedom/safety provided to them by western nations and instead of expecting the same sense of security/freedom from the government of their originating country they give them a free pass and blame “outside” factors.

What?

While I cannot speak for others, I can certainly express my own perspective. I encourage you to revisit the thread and carefully examine where I have articulated my criticism of the Pakistani military and government. In doing so, I have also highlighted the complex dynamics of regional geopolitics.

It is not the Pakistanis who are unaware of their government's inability to secure the country, nor of its persistent involvement in economic crises and domestic political instability. Rather, it is the Indians who must come to terms with the fact that their government has been implicated in acts of terrorism within Pakistan.

Key railway bridge in Balochistan hangs over dry river bed after deadly attack

The mangled track of a railway line hung over a dry river bed on Tuesday, after it was targeted in a series of coordinated attacks that killed dozens of people in Balochistan.

The colonial-era bridge — a key link between Balochistan and the rest of the country — was blown apart on Monday, with a section of a fallen track blocking a motorway below and another hanging from a damaged column.

Separatist militants killed dozens on Monday in several early morning attacks in the province which included taking control of a highway and shooting dead 23 people, mostly from Punjab province.

Six people traveling on the motorway near to the Kolpur bridge were also shot dead after militants checked their IDs, according to government officials.

“Explosives were used to attack our main bridge routes yesterday, which has stopped trains from traveling to other parts of the country,” Muhammad Kashif, a senior railway official in Balochistan, told AFP.

“We’re working to clear the road as quickly as possible to ease traffic for the public,” he said. “We do not know how much time it would take to restore the bridge in Bolan.”

The fallen tracks and rubble from the bridge that blocked the road below was being cleared by authorities.

“It’s a steep mountainous area and fear is natural, but the journey has to go on. We often pass through here in a convoy of three or four vehicles,” a truck driver from Sindh told AFP, while waiting for the road to reopen.

Security forces have been battling sectarian, ethnic and separatist violence for decades in impoverished Balochistan, but the coordinated attacks that took place in several districts throughout the province were one of the worst in the region’s history.

EXPRESS TRIBUNE

Unproven does not necessarily mean untrue, it simply indicates that the evidence has not yet been substantiated. The people of Pakistan also hold their government and establishment accountable for failing to actively pursue and present their case regarding India's involvement.
Please do. Hopefully we are involved. The Baloch freedom fighters need our full support. India will Nd should help them in all ways possible.

Balochistan IGP changed in wake of terrorist attacks

Later in the day, the newly-appointed IGP called on President Asif Ali Zardari.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency, the president stressed the need for taking effective measures to improve law and order situation in Balochistan.

The president expressed his best wishes to the new IGP for the smooth performance of his duties, the statement said.

Balochistan is consistently facing incidents of terrorism as earlier this week at least 50 people, including 14 security men, lost their lives in different parts of province after dozens of militants affiliated with the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) — a separatist outfit — had gone on a rampage across the province, storming police stations, blowing up railway tracks, and setting fire to almost three dozen vehicles.

Following recent incidents, President Zardari stressed the need for taking all possible steps to improve security situation in Balochistan and called for effective measures for the complete elimination of terrorists.

The president expressed these views during a meeting with Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi and Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti who called on him to discuss a security and law and order situation in the province on Tuesday.

PM Shehbaz vows special perks for top officers posted in Balochistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has vowed to appoint capable and promising officers to Balochistan, offering them special incentives.

Speaking to participants after the conclusion of an apex committee meeting in Quetta on Thursday, Sharif stressed the need for collective efforts to maintain peace in Balochistan. "We will eradicate terrorism from the country at all costs, and there will be no leniency towards terrorists," he said.

Sharif made it clear that no concessions would be given to enemies of the state. "Negotiations are essential with those who respect Pakistan's flag and Constitution, but under no circumstances can we negotiate with the nation's adversaries," he emphasised.

The prime minister highlighted the importance of appointing competent officers in Balochistan, acknowledging that concerns over security have made some officials reluctant to serve in the province.

To address this, he said a new policy has been formulated. Officers from the 48th Common Training Programme will be posted in Balochistan for one year, followed by postings of officers from the 49th Common Training Programme for one and a half years.

Sharif announced that officers posted in Balochistan would receive special perks, including four air tickets for their families every three months. Additionally, they will be awarded three extra performance points based on their work and achievements.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Shahbaz arrived in Quetta for a day-long visit to address the security situation in Balochistan.

The Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, welcomed him at the airport, along with Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly, Abdul Khaliq Achakzai.

Accompanying the prime minister were Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Trade Jam Kamal Khan, and Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi.

The prime minister later reviewed the overall security situation while attending a meeting of the Apex Committee in Quetta.

Army Chief Gen Syed Asim Munir and heads of intelligence agencies, as well as Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Chief Minister of Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti, and provincial ministers attended the meeting.

Balochistan has recently seen an uptick in violence, including target killings and militant attacks.

On Monday, the province experienced one of its most violent days, with around 50 lives lost in multiple terrorist attacks across various districts.

The deadliest incident occurred in Musakhail, where 23 passengers were executed after being offloaded from a bus. In Kalat, an attack on security forces resulted in 10 deaths, including both civilians and security personnel.

In response to the attacks on innocent civilians, the military has sprung into action carrying out actions across the province to target militants and terrorists alike.

Balochistan attacks aimed at sabotaging upcoming SCO summit, says security czar

Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi on Friday said that the horrific attacks in Balochistan, wherein dozens including security personnel lost their lives, was a “plot to subvert” upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit to be hosted by Pakistan next month.

Balochistan, on August 26, faced a series of horrific attacks that resulted in over 50 deaths, including 14 security personnel, as militants affiliated with the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) targeted civilians, police, and security forces.

In one of the deadliest attacks, at least 23 passengers were killed after being offloaded from passenger buses and trucks in the Rarasham area of Balochistan's Musakhel.

Separately, at least 10 people, including police and Levies personnel, were martyred in a gun attack in Kalat.

Furthermore, at least 14 brave sons of soil, including 10 security forces soldiers and four personnel of law enforcement agencies (LEAs), were martyred in clearance operations, wherein at least 21 militants were neutralised.

Amid the latest terror incidents, Pakistan is set to host SCO Council of Heads of Government (CHG) meeting from October 15-16.

In this regard, Islamabad extended invitations to all heads of government of the member states, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi despite strained ties.

Speaking on the floor of the Senate today, the interior minister said that the “completely-planned” Balochistan attacks were carried out by “two to three terrorist organisations”.

"A lot of people are in anguish as they don't want Pakistan to host the [SCO] meeting,” he said, adding that the August 26 incident was a “conspiracy to sabotage the summit”.

Naqvi further said that no operation was being launched in Balochistan while “stringent action would be taken against those who did not accept the state and took up arms”.

He also said that the apex committee reviewed the decisions related to the National Action Plan (NAP) and coordinated with the federal and provincial institutions, adding: “Parliament is supreme and will remain supreme.”

Giving details of the Thursday's meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Quetta, the minister said that dialogue could only be held with those who respect the Constitution of Pakistan and salute the national flag.

He said the meeting decided to provide Rs5 billion to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) to enhance capacity against terrorism while Rs8 billion including Rs1 billion would be given to each division of the province for the development which would be spent with their local parliamentarians recommendations.

The security czar said that to overcome the shortage of federal government employees as many as 30 to 40 officials would be deputed in the province within two days.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in militant attacks since the Taliban government returned to power in neighbouring Afghanistan in 2021, mostly in the northwestern border province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but also in southwestern Balochistan, which abuts Afghanistan and Iran.

There were at least 170 militant attacks killing 151 civilians and 114 security personnel in Balochistan last year, according to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies.

Islamabad accuses Kabul's new rulers of failing to root out militants sheltering on Afghan soil as they prepare to stage assaults on Pakistan.

Remarkable how Chinese General visited Pakistan during their separatist/rebel’s death anniversary.

Chinese definitely know how to crush a rebellion, the difference between Tiananmen and Dhaka is there for everyone to see
