Let’s look at the five regular bowlers who are representing Pakistan.

Mohammad Irfan: Good but no Joel Garner or Curtly Ambrose. He has yet to take 5 wickets in an ODI.

Wahab Riaz: I would regard him as our best ODI bowler at the moment. He is definitely a threat, but keep in mind, his economy rate is over 5 and he has only taken 5 wickets once in a match.

Yasir Shah: I think it is becoming obvious Yasir Shah doesn’t pose the same threat in the ODIs. The opposition looks very comfortable against him in the ODIs. He has been smacked around quite a lot in this series. Only the time will tell if he is as good in the ODIs as he is in the test matches.

Shoaib Malik: He has always been the 6th bowling option, more of filler; you just can’t depend on him as the main bowler in crucial matches.

Anwar Ali: He is the definition of mediocracy. Lacks pace to trouble the batsmen, and you are happy to see him pick up couple of wickets without going over 6 runs per over. You are not going to build a championship team with average players. When was the last time you pinned your hopes on Anwar Ali as the match winner?

Only Irfan and Wahab are decent for that list and even they aren't anything special. Malik is a part timer, Yasis is a test specialist and Anwar is the worst new ball bowler ever.

Junaid was good in ODIs but we benched him. Imran Khan has been bowling well with new ball but we never tried him in ODIs. Rahat Ali has also put up a good show in test marches and in his debut world cup but we sidelined him.
Looks like our coach is happy to rely on average bowler like Anwar Ali who has no variety or pace. We have a whole bunch of genuine pace bowlers to select from that even Irfan looks mediocre.

The bowling got no venom and the batting is useless. These batsmen can't even chase 200 without thrill.

halso jitna hasna hai hamari bowling pay..

phir mauka nahee milega :amir :asif

The problem is batting.

The pitches are true , boundaries short , heavy bats etc.

Bowling is doing all right , but you need to chase 270 plus these days .

Short answer, yes.

Even Wahab and Irfan who are good bowlers can bowl very good spells but dont seem to pick up a lot of wickets. Their bowling averages are in the excess of 30.

Malik is a part time bowler, and shouldnt be relied on for more than a few overs.

Anwar Ali is not an international quality bowler yet. I hope he improves because he is okay with the bat and a gun fielder. However as of now having him as a specialist bowler is hurting the bowling attack.

We are missing a x-factor wicket taking option like Ajmal. He provided so many crucial breakthroughs, bowled in the powerplays, and still kept an excellent economy rate.

Yasir (In ODIs), Malik and Anwar Ali need to bowl 30 overs and this lot is incapable of doing that against International class batsman

Anwar Needs to be replaced with Mo. Amir and Yasir with zafar and Shehzad with Imad(Hafeez can open), that would balance out both bowling and
batting

This should be our attack
Aamir
Irfan
Wahab
Zafar
Imad
Malik

Playing XI:
Hafeez
A. Ali
Harris
Babar
Malik
Rizwan/Sarfraz
Imad
Mo. Amir
Zafar Gohar
Wahab
Irfan

This is as balanced a team as we could assemble

In spinning conditions like UAE, Yamin comes in for Babar Azam and Yasir replaces Irfan

No one considers Irfan anything more than a good bowler, who can make the batsmen hop around on any surface. Riaz is rated as the best pacer from the subcontinent, not the world. People realize that Yasir Shah is no Saeed Ajmal but he can still be a good ODI bowler once he adjusts to this format. The rest are all bits-and-pieces players who will make way when Amir and possibly Junaid, make their return.

I don't see how this is an overrated bowling attack, no one is claiming that it is the best in the world.

Irfan is very overrated to be fair. Junaid was one of the world's top ODI bowlers for like a year and then he regressed quickly.

On current form, Mustafizur is leagues ahead of Riaz. Their stats are from different planets. Riaz is ranked in the 50ies in the world ODI bowling rankings for a reason.

I think Junaid should be given a chance again if he shows some semblance of his old self in domestics.

Irfan isn't threatening at all after his first couple of overs.

A pace battery of Amir, Wahab and Junaid (previous version).. Wow Wow Wow :raja

Junaid - Used to be talented, but sadly, he went Irfan Pathan way.

Irfan - Poor man's Morkel. Had a lot of potential, but his giant body couldn't sustain those levels.

Wahab - Very exciting to watch but still a very average ODI pacer.

Overall, the bowling standards are quite poor. Only WI and Sri Lanka seem to have a weaker attack.

They are not over rated. Every one knows our ODI bowling is crap.

Well said sir. Pakistanis seem to think because they traditionally produced good bowlers that even the mediocre ones must be better than they look. That said, you put Amir into that attack and suddenly it starts looking a lot better.

Sadly, cricket is not played on spreadsheets.

Our current ODI bowlers are average at best overall, even Wahab whose the one real quality ODI bowler we have had a lot of inconsistancies in performance.

The over rated Pakistani Bowling attack

For how long are we going to persist with bowlers who keep letting Pakistan down again and again.

The first thing the selectors need to do once this world cup campaign is over is to punish and drop all these bowlers and get some new and hungry bowlers in.

The bowlers can't keep getting away with failing to defend 280 runs, 300 runs, 350 runs. England defended 313 runs against South Africa. The Bangladeshi bowling attack defend 330 runs against South Africa. We need to call a spade a spade, the Pakistani bowling attack is not good enough and has not been good enough for a while.

The batsmen have done their job, the bowlers are not doing theirs.

I mean our bowling attack can't take wickets up front, can't keep the run rate down or take wickets in the middle, can't keep their composure under assault, goes for plenty at the death?

Who is going to be accountable for this? To all those saying the bowling coach can't bowl for them, what is he being paid so handsomely for then? Someone has to be accountable for this.

Honest assesment of Pk.

Who rated them? This lot is better than the set playing last month against England, but they are not ranked very high by anyone. Also, Wahab was drafted in just because we didn't have any other option that he did something special.

No one is rating the current batch of bowler highly.

I do not get why people keep bring this up?

We had good bowlers but not anymore.
