What's new

Are the PCB trying to pave the way for a Babar Azam return to the T20 side?

Well, originally his idol was Ab DeVilliers :ROFLMAO:
Babar calling De villers his idol and then Steve Smith is so random?

You'd expect someone like Sam konstas to call De villers his idol since he likes playing aggressive and playing unorthodox strokes.

And You'd expect someone like saud Shakeel or nathan mcsweeney to consider Steve Smith his idol as their both mostly test specialists.

For someone like babar its so random 🤣🤣🤣

He’s just a bland guy tbh.

I don’t think he ever watched cricket outside of playing it. Probably only watched the matches his cousins played in growing up.

Just because you idolize someone doesn’t mean you try to be like him or you imitate him. You just admire them for who they are.

It’s also possible for a batsman to idolize a bowler growing up, and vice versa.

If idolizing someone means you should be like that person, then Sam Konstas’ idol should be a tailender.

Konstas is a 19 year old kid expected to play well on a tour where the highest run scorer and highest avg batter was Travis head to avg 37?

Steve smith avg 33 vs wi?

Also you are wrong in this instance.

You dont have to mimick them but the idea is to atleast share their ideals.

If I was to adolise de villers then the idea would be that I would want to be as aggressive as him which babar isn't.

Similarly if I wish to idolise Steve smith it would imply that I wish to become a Test ATG with a 50+ avg which babar doesn't possess.

I think he's watched it but its probably a PR thing. Oh look babar and Steve smith will play together for Sydney

I don’t understand what the hoo haa is - Rashid Latif and Wasim Akram are sending supportive statements for Babar.

Why all the drama. There is some thing very simple that can be applicable to all players.

You haven’t made the cut for the team. Show some improvement and if we’re satisfied, then there’s enough reason for us to bring you back.

What exactly has babar done to improve? Is there any evidence of his improvement? Right now he’s just relying on emotional social media statements. And that’s been his whole problem for the last few years. He doesn’t believe he needs to change, he is guaranteed there will be idiotic emotional calls to bring him back.

It’s pathetic

Whether he has improved or not doesn’t matter. The BD and WI series show that he still walks into the team.

I repeat: there is no world in which Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen don’t walk into the Pakistan XI in all formats.

You know that’s nonsense, but you’re too ziddi to admit it

Fakhar Zaman’s Hamstring Tear Puts Asia Cup Participation in Doubt - Who Should Bat at No. 3?

The Asia Cup kicks off on September 9th in the UAE, but Pakistan might be facing a selection headache even before the tournament starts. Fakhar Zaman is dealing with a hamstring tear, and reports suggest his participation is looking increasingly unlikely.

Before the Asia Cup, Pakistan will also play a T20I tri-series in the UAE against the hosts and Afghanistan. This series could be the perfect opportunity to test a new batting combination at No. 3 in Fakhar’s absence.

The two main contenders? Abdullah Shafique and Babar Azam.

Here’s how their numbers stack up since 2024:

Overall T20 stats (2024 onwards)

  • Abdullah Shafique: Average: 37.0, Strike Rate: 144.8
  • Babar Azam: Average: 40.6, Strike Rate: 132.0

At No. 3 specifically (2024 onwards), both have played 17 innings in this position:

  • Abdullah Shafique: Average: 38.0, Strike Rate: 145.0
  • Babar Azam: Average: 43.0, Strike Rate: 135.0

Against spin since 2024:

  • Abdullah Shafique: 254 runs off 182 balls, 7 dismissals, Average: 36.3, Strike Rate: 139.6
  • Babar Azam: 718 runs off 556 balls, 18 dismissals, Average: 39.9, Strike Rate: 129.1

The contrast is interesting, Abdullah has a higher strike rate both overall and against spin, while Babar has the edge in average and stability. The choice could depend on whether the team management wants aggression or consistency in that role.

With the tri-series providing a low-stakes testing ground, the decision could be made before the Asia Cup even begins.

If Fakhar is unavailable, who should bat at No. 3, Abdullah Shafique or Babar Azam? And why?

Babar's avg in odi is now 54.23 after his latest innings.

If he gets drafted into t20, his avg will fall to 35 and below in that format.

A 35 avg batter with a 110 sr? Allah

Most overrated batsman of all time

Apart from a 100 against NZ In 2019 WC, there is no memorable performance from him in ODIs.

I think all players should go on protest it Babar is recalled to the T20i squad

There are guys who have been working their @rses off for years to get recognition and a place in the side, whereas this clown gets a free pass because players get injured and he has a strong pr team on social media!

He didn’t deserve captaincy either once sacked after 2023. We all saw what happened.

This guy doesn’t go through the same system as the others.

I would go one step further. Most overrated cricketer of all time.

Other than the innings against NZ, which was good due to the occasion, as you say there are no other stand out innings.
