My University(NUST) is helping students take MS Office Certification Tests for 3 modules(Excel,Word and Power Point).Normally the Voucher is 100$ for each module but we are getting free vouchers through HEC(Higher Education Commission).I have already cleared the test for Word(which was extremely easy) and am going to take the tests for other modules next week but the big question is that are these Certifications worth anything?

You can get all this info from youtube or different websites. For example I use exceljet when i need help in excel. You don't need to attend any courses for this.

You have to look at these certifications from a branding perspective instead of a degree perspective.

If a potential recruiter asks if you are well versed with MS Office applications, you can just say "yes" or you can say "yes, I even took these MS Office Certifications and I am now certified". The latter would create a much better impression and give more confidence to your recruiter since it's coming from a reputable source.

Now, I don't know whether this certification will be useful in your case or not. That's a call you have to take.

But remember that as long as your good at what you do...having a better presentation, positioning and branding will take you farther in life.

Free certifications are better than no certifications... If it’s free for you go for it even if they won’t help atleast you will have 2 extra lines to write in your resume.

Yeah, nothing to lose I guess.

I hope they are not being provided by CSP, they usually do such dumb things (I currently study in SEECS, NUST).

Those are just to fill your CVs when there's nothing else to show-off.

Many of these recruiters will ask you to do an assesment in one of those software's like Excel to confirm your ability egardless of whether or not you have a certification so if he uses online learning resources should still be good to go and save money as well imo but this course here is free, if one has the time for it why not

I don't think any recruiter asks that question anymore. Its a given that everyone should have some degree of proficiency with MS Office.

Keep it only if you struggle to fill your resume. A time will come when you will have to decide what to keep and what to discard from your resume.

Isn't knowing MS Office a given these days? If you intend to go into social sciences or finance, learn elementary programming and then Python or R.

They are not worth anything in a developed country where office skills are expected however you can list these certs on your resume if you're still in college or just graduated since you gotta fluff up your resume a bit when don't have much experience and certs prove you know what you claim to know. I feel like employers in Pakistan would be more impressed lol.

still have 1 and a half years left before I graduate so I guess these certifications can help fill my resume at the start of my career

I don't know what happened to most of the PC's in SEECS when tests were being conducted.Excel was working on just 3-4 PC's in Sherazi Lab.
