Comedian Kunal Kamra attempted to ask Republic TV's Arnab Goswami "questions about his journalism" on an Indigo flight. While Goswami studiously ignored him, looking instead at his open laptop, Kamra parodied Goswami's own legendary primetime style, saying: "Viewers today want to know if Arnab is a coward or a nationalist".

Kamra said he questioned Goswami "for Rohit", referring to Rohith Vemula.

Kamra’s hectoring is a lot like what Goswami’s reporters at Republic TV indulge in and pass off as reporting. Whether it’s “surrounding Shashi Tharoor” or chasing Jignesh Mevani. In the most recent of their attempts, Republic TV reporters created quite a ruckus at a JNUSU press conference much to the consternation of reporters from other media organisations present on the spot.

Kamra put up the video after tweeting that Goswami had called him "mentally unstable" when he attempted to ask him about his journalism on the plane.

Kamra can be heard in the video, saying: "I am part of the tukde-tukde narrative. You should deflate me. enemies of the state down...Arnab, you should have a reply. Are you a coward or are you a journalist or a nationalist? Who are you, Arnab?"

At one point, Kamra sounded emotional, saying he was questioning Goswami for Rohith Vemula's mother, Radhika, "whose caste you were discussing on your ****ing show". He added: "I know this is not allowed, it's fine...I'll go to jail for this." He directed Goswami to read Rohith's suicide note to have "some emotion or some heart".

To Goswami's credit, he didn't look up from his laptop once.

Soon after, Kamra put up a statement, saying he did "exactly what Republic TV journalists do to people in their private/public spaces". Saying he doesn't regret what he does, Kamra concluded that he wanted to apologise to "every passenger except one".

Such a bad behaviour by the comedian. He is lucky that he has same fame, else any common man would be booked for assault

And good for Arnab to maintain composure. As last time, a famous journalist named Rajdeep punched a guy who was questioning him...

Kamra needs to learn to articulate and also not show his frustration , this is not how it’s done, you have a youtube channel use that.

This is why Varun grover>>>>> all others

Indigo is going to be under tremendous pressure for allowing such harassment aboard its flight. This kind of behaviour will normally mean deboarding and possible ban.

Arnab is garbage.

But this Kunal Kamra guy saying that he did for Rohit Vemula is a joke. This Kunal guy should be suspended permanently from flying for the harassment.

Don't condone such behavior but in the larger scheme of things, it shows Arnab for who he is.

Can't believe how he sold his soul.

Atleast back during Times Now, he would attack both sides of the political spectrum.

Right now, he is nothing but a poodle.

Kunal deserved the ban but dude must be laughing out crazy. :))

Its like Fox News. Arnab chose to support right wing politicians. The likes of Barkha Dutt are extreme Left.

India has people who consume the views from both sides.

lol Arnab.

Can only throw insults.

What a kitten lol.

Agreed.

Barkha Dutt is nowhere as toxic as Arnab.

That guy is pathetic.

Poor from Kunal. That clown didn't deserve any minute of one's life wasted on him.

Best to ignore the sellouts like him.

Agreed.

Barkha Dutt is nowhere as toxic as Arnab.

That guy is pathetic.

Barkha Dutt has caused deaths of people. She started making heroes out of Ayesha Renna and Ladeeda Farheen. She is 10 times more toxic than Arnab. Only that her reach is extremely limited now.

Reprehensible from Kunal, but not surprised to see the usual suspects condone this behaviour. Will be fun watching them cry when their failed news stars get the same treatment

Arnab Goswami has been humiliated many times. One lady guests even showed him two fingers then there was our Purvez Musharraf giving him a proper history lesson and thrashing as well. We need to understand it is all worth it for him being humiliated and embarrassed coz he is paid so well. He like most Indians is a paper tiger.

I think bigger issue than Kamra is Karnataka Deputy CM that watches r rated sexual clips in assembly , he shouldn’t be allowed to fly or hold any post.. but Joshilla bhai doesn’t seem to care.

He was suspended from the assembly. There is no law in place that says he cant be elected.

Unless one is convicted of an offence that carries a sentence of minimum two years.

I don't make the rules buddy, nor does Saket

From 2017

The Centre today unveiled the first-ever guidelines on no-fly list under which air travellers can now be banned from flying for a period ranging from three months to lifetime for unruly behaviour on plane.

Aviation regulator DGCA will maintain the record of all such blacklisted passengers. The quantum of punishment is based on the severity of offence, which has been divided into three categories.

Several airlines have been demanding a no-fly list of disruptive passengers following an incident in which Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad allegedly hit an Air India staffer with his slipper "25 times" over not being given a business class seat in an all-economy plane.

The amended Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) or rules on "handling of unruly passengers" announced today by the government come into effect immediately but will not apply retrospectively.

The no-fly list will be compiled by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) based on inputs from various airlines.

The country is the first in the world to have a no-fly list that is based on safety and not just security, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha said at a press conference.

He clarified that the no-fly list will apply only if the incident is inside an aircraft which could adversely affect the safety of the aircraft and its occupants. Otherwise, the matter will be probed by security agencies.

The pilot-in-command of an aeroplane can report an incident involving an unruly passenger and the matter will be investigated by an internal committee of the airline concerned within 30 days.

If the probe is not concluded within the time-frame, the passenger will be "free to fly", say the revised rules.

However, the airline "may" impose a ban while it is probing the matter for a period not exceeding 30 days, it adds.

The committee will decide the quantum of punishment based on the nature of misbehaviour, which has been divided into three categories on the basis of their severity.

The first category of disruptive behaviour includes verbal assault and carries a ban of 3 months, the second includes physical attack with a ban of six months and the third and most serious category comprises life-threatening behaviour as well as sexual harassment with a ban ranging from two years or more without upper limit.

In case a passenger is a repeat offender, the duration of the flying ban will be twice that of his previous ban.

Other domestic carriers "will not be bound by the no-fly list of an airline", the ministry of civil aviation said in a press statement, implying that they are free to decide whether or not to bar a passenger already banned by one of the airlines for his/her misconduct.

An airline is also required to inform a traveller about the flying restrictions imposed by it.

The list will also comprise passengers identified by the Ministry of Home Affairs as a threat to national security.

Unruly passengers will also be investigated by the local police in addition to the airline's internal committee and can face criminal charges as a carrier is required to file an FIR.

"The Directorate General of Civil Avaiation (DGCA) is a safety regulator and the goal of this exercise is safety, which starts once you board the aircraft. If you are not on the aircraft, it is not within the legal scope or purview of DGCA," Sinha said.

On how will the airlines track an unruly passenger banned by them, Sinha said that the government's "digi yatra" initiative to be implemented soon will allow "unique identification to be associated with a PNR number".

On earlier occasions he has said that this could be done by making an Aadhar card or a passport mandatory for booking a ticket.

The rules apply for domestic and international scheduled and non-scheduled (chartered) air transport services, all Indian airports as well as passengers flying into and over India.

International airlines will have to conform to these rules as per the Tokyo Convention, 1963, said Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju.

The Convention allows a contracting country to impose its criminal jurisdiction on an aircraft in flight if there is a breach of flight related rules, in case the offence has been committed by or against a national of that country and if it harms its security.

A passenger barred from flying can approach an appellate committee constituted by the ministry within a period of 60 days. The decision of this committee will be final but if the appellant is dissatisfied he or she can approach the high court.

A few months back Pragya Thakur created ruckus and delayed here Spicejet flight by 45 minutes, no action against her.

Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad in 2017 hit an Air India staff with his slippers 25 times, they were hesitant to take action despite lot of outrage, finally he was banned from Air India for two weeks.

Kunal Kamra was clearly wrong here but aren't we supposed to follow rules/guidelines in such cases? Is 6 months ban justified? I mean you can't arbitrarily invent some reason to satiate the baying masses and political masters, India must aspire to be better than that.

Even most right thinking Indian's are embarrassed by Arnab's hypocrisy. It is only General Bakshi his favourite pet he gets on with the best.

By the way where does Arnab stand on this recent anti-Muslim law?

So you are ok with adult videos in Assembly.. got it, corruption is the only issue riots violence criminal case secondary.

Again. He was suspended from the assembly. Nothing more can be done under Peoples representation Act.

That idiot SS MP was banned from flying and had to issue an apology.

Sadhvi Pragya is an Albatross around the neck of BJP. Massive embarrassment for a party that calls itself a party of ordinary people.

While people have blamed Kunal for crossing the line, what about Arnab?

Kunal politely asked him. Arnab called him mentally unstable. I guess that's ok.

Also what's the whole deal with all flights banning him?

Is there any specific law that is being followed?

How are bans randomly handed out?

Who condoned his behavior in this thread? Can you show me one poster please?

Signing in to say Kamra should have done worse. To a spineless lowlife man who treats those (mostly the ones he can get away with) who come on his show, worse than rats carrying the plague.

Arnab like many in power today will one day face their due. Call it karma or whatever - the wheel always turns.

Oh, the real intolerance and hatred for anybody who is in tune with their own personal political beliefs....

They are not left or right but highly intolerant people. And its not the first time, Rajdeep assaulted a man in USA so these people are really consistently intolerant...

I would like to see a conversation between Arnab and Shashi Tharoor.

Try doing it with someone in US. Then sign in to tell what happened next.

It's hilarious how BJP supporters are finding heckling a putrid human being such a big issue.

Use the police to beat up people - basically turned into a goonda party. Yet get all sanctimonious when it comes to others.

And what is this US thing you keep singing about me. Does that justify my hatred and contempt for the Modi-Shah wing of your beloved party? I live in Bengaluru. Here's a pic of today's newspaper just for you.

By the way where does Arnab stand on this recent anti-Muslim law?

It is not an "anti-Muslim law". It is a law to repatriate migrants who came to India illegally for economic reasons. Those migrants who can make a case they faced persecution due to their religion (Sikhs, Hindus, Christians etc.) can stay.

You tell this to the millions protesting on the streets of India including lawyers and professionals. Muslim's from neighbouring countries are banned from Indian citizenship but non-Muslim's are welcome.

That is what the Partition of India was based on. Non-Muslims from Pakistan would be allowed into India if they so desired. My own grandparents were from Pakistan (the part that is now Bangladesh), so I can hardly argue with that.

I get you.

Arnab is a pathetic **** no doubt.

Again proven by the Republic headlines today :)))

The issue is that once you go down the path, 2 things happen:

1. It gives ammunition to the opposition and they will twist it the way they want.

2. It creates backlash and they will justify it using this example. And being uncouth is where they excel at.

Not in this thread mate. I don’t know anyone on this forum to criticise. There is a lively debate ongoing on social media with enough people supporting Kamra

Oh ok then. :)

Homwboy got shades on inside and airplane while acting like he is working on his laptop ....Such a :jk when confronted in real life. I guess what they say about bullies is true .:afridi:afridi

After screeching against the 'Lutyen's gang' from his mumbai studio for years, Arnab has now become the ultimate symbol of Lutyen's power and influence. It didn't even need a phone call before the Union aviation minister stepped in to protect their beloved saghi anchor by directing all airlines to ban the comedian from travel.

Shocking and shameful abuse of power really.

Pragya Thakur, Kunal Kamra, the Shiv Sena MP who assaulted airlines staff etc. all should be banned. Doesn't matter which side you are on, bad behavior should not be tolerated.

The inside of an airplane is is a space which one cannot leave. If fighting between passengers is allowed, then flying become less secure. In the US, such behavior would have resulted in the stewardesses asking Kunal to sit down and shut up, and if he did not the police would be waiting for him when the plane landed.

This.

How could someone in a position of power direct airlines to take action against a passenger just because he heckled ruling party's paid stooge?

Aren't airlines themselves qualified enough to take action whatever they seem fit? Isn't it setting an extremely dangerous precedence?

Lol where was this clown when a person from his own brethren (and that too a terror accused) exhibited far more dangerous behaviour in a flight?

Do these sanghis and their ****** think sane people (how many of them are left in this country, is debatable) are so gullible that they'll take everything lying down?

Actually, the biggest issue was this comedian recorded his own abusive behavior and posted it, to be seen as a hero and boosting about it. It was simply stupid as it meant the airlines had it respond, and they certainly did it correctly by banning him.

People misbehave, abuse others, but usually let off without any official punishment. As they don't boost about it on social media nor foolishly call themselves a hero....

He did not disobey any of the cabin crew nor was he disruptive to any real extent. The staff on the plane didn't make an official complaint or even Arnab for that matter, as far as we know.
If the crew had asked him repeatedly to desist and return to his seat and he refused, then you might have had an argument.

If Kunal Kamra did this exact same thing in the US, I can guarantee you that no airline there is going to ban him, not a singe one.

The commander of the IndiGo flight on which stand-up comic Kunal Kamra confronted journalist Arnab Goswami has purportedly written to the management questioning the rationale for the airline’s ban on Mr. Kamra, who, he asserts, had complied with the cabin crew’s instructions and while having displayed ‘unsavoury behaviour’ had not indulged in actions that would qualify him as a ‘Level 1 Unruly passenger’.

“As Captain of 6E5317 BOM-LKO on 28.01.2020, I do not find the aforementioned events reportable in any way,” Captain Rohit Mateti, is purported to have written in an internal e-mail, an unverified leaked copy of which was posted on Twitter by several users. The leaked mail also appears to show the pilot expressing disappointment that the airline chose to act against Mr. Kamra without any “consultation whatsover with the Pilot-in-Command”.

As shown above, the Indigo ban itself seems shady. But what about him being banned by other airlines. What kind of garbage logic was used there?

So tomorrow if (Lord Modi forbid) you are banned from here, should the internet ban you from not posting anywhere?

The crew did not do its duty. They should have asked Kunal to stop as such confrontations can lead to violence. The inside of a plane in flight is not a place for drama.

And I can guarantee that the crew would have asked him to shut up, and if he did not, the plane would have landed at the nearest airport and Kunal certainly would have been arrested. How do I know? Two decades of flying domestic US airlines.

Muslims from neighbouring countries demanded a nation and got it in 1947. Hence they are not welcome here.

Its not surprising that a bjp hater thinks heckling people for their views which are perfectly legal is fine. Just because XYZ is not echoing your views he is putrid.

What is this posting newspapers?

I can post newspapers from Australia, doesnt mean a thing. Try again.

You're making assumptions now. The crew from afar probably thought it was just two people talking or filming - yet another indicator of how non-threatening he appeared to everybody else in this whole episode.

Arnab did not do his duty. Instead of reaching up for the call button and summoning the steward, he sat there squirming in his seat and silently praying for him to go away.

Stick to what actually happened instead of hypotheticals involving crew. No ban in a US airline for what Kunal did and you know it.

Excuse me, but I referred to what would have happened in the US because in your previous message you wrote "If Kunal Kamra did this exact same thing in the US, I can guarantee you that no airline there is going to ban him, not a singe one."

Now you are reading my mind. With your supernatural ability you have a bright future, but I have to work on mine, so bye.

It appears to me that liberals are really getting desperate now and started harassing people in public places. All those masks of left liberalism is all about tolerance is totally off and they are like rabbit caught in a headlight. They tried every possible trick in BJPs 1st term to defame them like award wapasi, JNU slogans, Gurmehar Kaur, rising intolerance etc. etc. After working so hard overtime for 5 years they were expecting their masters to take back the power in center. But the slap of 23rd may have totally made them desperate and are in panic mode now.

If you dont like Arnab Goswami, dont watch him, simple. Switch to news channels that caters your need. But to shove mike on people's face in a public place clearly highlight the mental trauma they are in. And to think of it, this is only bjp's 2nd term with few more terms of Amit Shah coming up. Imagine the mental health of Indian liberals by the time BJP is done. Good grief.

It also looks like Arnab not only owns the secular brigade by screaming in news studios. Even his silence is causing them a pain :))

Kunal Kamra is now messaging Arnab on his phone and visiting republic offices.

This is stalking.

Sanghis would throw whole world at you to defend their kind.

would talk about the safety of fellow passengers

would talk about how a person should act and protest,

would talk about how liberal or those who oppose Sanghis backward mentality are horrible horrible horrible people

Would talk about, there is a time and place to protest.

But, Sanghi will never ever criticize anyone who would incite violence against Minorities, particularly Muslims.

Sanghi will never have any issue if a person on live TV daily promoting hate but would get their Khakhi chaddi in a twist if a comedian ask few question to drama queen, mouth piece of RSS, BJP and Hindutva.

Waiting for Arnab to call this comedian a deshdrohi, lol lol

Independence was based on Pak becoming a majority Muslim country. India never said it was supposed to be a majority Hindu country. Then stop crying "secularism" with every breath you take. By all means become a Hindu country as long as you don't send your Muslim's who chose to live in India our way.

We don't want to come there anyway and have no regrets about 1947 Just don't send your Muslim's our way or tell us you are a secular state, call yourself a Hindu nation Your Muslim's are complaining about your law not ours.

Kunal should have spat on Arnab's face for good measure. Couldn't have happened to a better guy.

A US passenger couple of years ago confronted Ivanka Trump on a plane. Don’t know if he got banned but don’t remember so

Becoming a Hindu country is very different from not allowing "open borders". Generally no country in the world allows economic illegal migrants. Some are more lax in their enforcement, others are more strict, it however doesn't make them non-secular.

Hindus, Sikhs and Christians from Pakistan (and what used to be Pakistan) are a different category because they were Indians who due to Partition ended up in a different country not by their choice. Muslims from Pakistan chose Pakistan (though many individual Muslims may not have, but it is impossible to read minds and identify them).

The difference should be obvious, and I am afraid I cannot explain it any better, so time for me to let this go. Be well.

Your proclivity for instigating violence, especially in a situation which demands adherence to safe behavior is troubling.

If someone spat on me, no doubt his nose would become acquainted with my fist in a jiffy.
