An Indian stand-up comedian, who recently faced a flight ban for confronting a pro-government TV presenter, told Al Jazeera he does not regret his actions.

"When you get a chance like this, if you do not confront him and try to tell him that what he's doing is really causing damage ... I wanted to actually genuinely have a good conversation with him ... and then I did exactly what a Republic TV journalist would do, I pointed my camera, I shot it and I put it up," Kunal Kamra told Al Jazeera in Doha.

Kamra, 30, was slapped with a flight ban by four Indian airlines after he berated anchor and journalist Arnab Goswami on board a plane during which he asked the senior journalist if he was "a coward or a nationalist".

Goswami, the head of India's Republic TV, is known for shouting at his guests on live TV. The 46-year-old journalist has even called for war against India's neighbour, Pakistan.

Kamra has used his edgy humour to criticise government policies but he insists he is bipartisan and does not favour any Indian political party.

He has often lampooned Rahul Gandhi, leader of the opposition Congress party, during his shows.

The comedian has more than 900,000 followers on Twitter and has used his handle to express his anti-establishment views, while millions watch his YouTube show Shut Up Ya Kunal, which he started in 2017.

Delhi HC refuses to entertain Kamra’s plea challenging flying ban by IndiGo, Vistara

The Delhi High Court Friday refused to entertain a petition filed by comedian Kunal Kamra challenging the flying banimposed on him by Indian airlines, including IndiGo and Vistara. In his petition, Kamra said IndiGo had made a decision pending inquiry by an internal committee, and other airlines imposed an indefinite ban on him. Justice Naveen Chawla disapproved of Kamra’s behaviour on flight and said it cannot be permitted on an airline, news agency PTI reported.

After the court made it clear it was not going to entertain the matter, Kamra’s lawyers sought permission to withdraw the plea and approach the appellate authority against the ban by IndiGo.

Arnab was a brilliant journalist when he was with times now. He was fiesty, aggressive and used to ask all inconvinient questions to politicians which others were afraid to ask. That interview with Rahul Gandhi in 2014 was a total classic.

But after opening his own channel his journalism level went down drastically. He needs to watch some of his old times now clips and get back to his self best. I have also noticed he acts more weirdly in hindi channel (R.Bharat) than the english one. Maybe he thinks in order to gain TRP among other hindi journalists...he needs to scream more

There is absolutely no way I support Goswami's kind of journalism and screaming but the larger point he is making here is correct. Mrs Gandhi, other congress leaders, bollywood actors, liberal gangs and JNU supporters are ready to do award wapasi, candle light protests and crying of intolerance if any minority gets lynched in India but maintaining pedestrian silence on this case. Not a single condemnation from any of them. Infact channels like NDTV just did a peripheral coverage of this issue trying to hide as much as possible.

Goswami was trying to highlight this hypocricy which most sane Indians understand as well. But he can make his point politely rather than shouting & screaming because if you shout people will talk more about his antics rather than the actual point he is trying to make

This miserable human. I won't spend even a second feeling bad for this lowlife, who's responsible for thousands of people facing prejudice and sometimes physical harm, if someone were to actually thrash him for real and not just in his mind.

But his big mouth is clouding his brain nowadays. He put out a video saying if something were to happen to him, Sonia Gandhi is responsible. Yes there was a time when Goswami was a real good journalist, however ever since his programs turned into a shouting match, I stopped following him.

The interview with Rahul Gandhi that Goswamy did in 2014 was just pure comedy, there has been 1000s of funny clips, emoji's or whatever else that has been exchanged between all my family members all over the world, from that interview and even still today .

That interview highlighted the need for PM Modi, and despite the comedy provided by the Mahaan Congress leader, I realized there and then, the danger India would have been in, had that clown Rahul Gandhi been made PM, he does not even know how to tie his own shoe lace or put on his underwear let alone be the PM of India. However the real scary part for me is the Pseudo Secular Indians who actually feel he can be the PM of India, it just shows how people just don't have a brain, it is just hollow empty skulls...

No coercive action against Arnab Goswami for three weeks: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Friday granted protection against any coercive steps for three weeks to Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami in connection with the several FIRs registered against him in a few states over his remarks on a TV show related to the Palghar lynching case and against Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi.

A bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and M R Shah, who was hearing the plea via video-conferencing, also put a stay on all the FIRs, barring the one which was registered in Nagpur. “No coercive actions will be taken against Goswami for two weeks,” the court declared.
