The area in Balochistan mentioned in reports is very shady full of mountains, proper inquiry needed as some anti Army elements hide behind mountains and attack miltary vehicles and helicopters etc.

Lieutenant General Asif Ghafoor has been appointed Commander 12 Corps the military said, a day after the martyrdom of Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ali in a helicopter crash in Balochistan.

"Lieutenant General Asif Ghafoor appointed Commander 12 Corps, Quetta," the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement Wednesday night.

"He is replacing Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ali HI(M) TBT and Bar, shaheed who embraced shahadat [martyrdom] in a helicopter crash due to bad weather during flood relief operations in Lasbela, Balochistan, on August 1, 2022," the military's media wing added.

The wreckage of a military helicopter that went missing Monday night was found in a coastal district of Balochistan and none of the six officers and crew on board has survived the crash.

Commander 12 Corps Lieutenant General Sarfaraz Ali, Major General Amjad Hanif, Brigadier Muhammad Khalid, Major Saeed Ahmed, Major M Talha Manan and Naik Mudassar Fayyaz were on board the Mi-17 helicopter of Army Aviation.

Lt Gen Ali was supervising relief operations in Balochistan, which has been hit hard by flash floods triggered by the heavy monsoon rains in the province.

Baloch freedom fighters claim responsibility for Pakistan Army helicopter crash, say military is lying by calling it ‘accident due to bad weather’
The wreckage of the Pakistan Army helicopter carrying senior military officers that had gone missing on August 1 was found in Musa Goth, Windar, Lasbela on Tuesday, August 2

A day after the media wing of the Pakistan Armed Forces claimed that the Pakistan Army helicopter that went missing on August 1, crashed in an ‘accident‘, the Baloch Raaji Aajoi Sangar (BRAS) an umbrella organization of Baloch armed rebel groups took responsibility for the same.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the rebel group claimed responsibility for targeting and downing the low-flying Pakistan military helicopter in the mountainous areas of Windar and Noorani in Balochistan.

According to reports, the wreckage of the Pakistan Army helicopter carrying senior military officers that had gone missing on August 1 was found in Musa Goth, Windar, Lasbela on Tuesday, August 2. Six individuals who were on board including Commander 12 Corps were found dead.

On Tuesday, Director-General (DG) ISPR Tweeted that the initial probe revealed that the accident had occurred due to bad weather. “The wreckage of an unfortunate helicopter which was on flood relief ops found in Musa Goth, Windar, Lasbela. All 6 officers and soldiers including l Lt Gen Sarfraz Ali embraced shahadat. …Accident occurred due to bad weather as per initial investigations,” Director-General (DG) ISPR said in a tweet.

The Baloch Raaji Aajoi Sangar (BRAS) spokesperson Baloch Khan, however, said in a statement on Wednesday, “Freedom fighters of BRAS targeted a low flying helicopter of Pakistan military. The targeted helicopter crashed near Moosa Goth in Dareji.”

“In the attack, carried out with anti-aircraft guns, the helicopter was badly damaged and later completely destroyed. All six enemy personnel on board the flight were killed in the attack. They included Core Commander 12 Core Lieutenant General Sarfaraz Ali, Director General Coast Guard Major General Amjad, Brigadier Khalid, pilot Major Saeed, co-pilot Talha and crew chief Naik Muddasir”, the statement by BRAS added.

The spokesperson for BRAS asserted that the helicopter was the target of its fighters and added that Lieutenant General Sarfaraz Ali, who had continued to serve as Director General of Military Intelligence and Inspector General of the Frontier Corps South of Balochistan, was directly involved in forced disappearances and the Baloch genocide. Lieutenant General Sarfaraz Ali was one of the six Pakistani commanders who were on board the helicopter, supervising the flood relief operations in Lasbela, Balochistan.

“Baloch Raaji Aajoi Sangar (BRAS) will continue to carry lethal attacks against the enemy (Pakistan army) until the full withdrawal of the enemy forces and the liberation of Baloch motherland”, the statement of BRAS added.

According to authorities, the helicopter left Uthal at 5:10 p.m. on Monday and was scheduled to arrive in Karachi at 6:05 p.m. but lost communication with the air traffic controller.

“A Pakistan army aviation helicopter which was on flood relief operations in Lasbela, Balochistan lost contact with ATC. 6 individuals were on board including Commander 12 Corps who was supervising flood relief operations in Balochistan. The search operation is underway,” Tweeted Director-General (DG) ISPR on Monday, August 1.

Balochistan has been devastated by flash floods and heavy rains, which have killed 147 people so far. Relief operations are now being offered to the displaced in the province by the Pakistan Army and civic authorities.

Police and Army officers combed the region on Tuesday in an effort to find the chopper. However, the hazardous hilly terrain and the region’s damaged roadways caused by the flooding hindered their attempts. Later, the Pakistan army’s media wing said in a statement that the wreckage of the helicopter was found and claimed that, “the accident occurred due to bad weather.”

Notably, in February this year, the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) had attacked two posts in Pakistan’s southwest province neutralizing more than 100 Pakistani personnel and destroying a large part of their camps. The BLA issued an official statement confirming that the major parts of both the camps were still under their control. Then too the Pakistan military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) denied the intensity of the attack and declared a reduced number of deaths.

Such sad news. May Allah grant them the highest rank in Jannah

The Pakistan Army on Friday regretted over the social media campaign following the unfortunate helicopter crash in Balochistan on August 1, a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

According to the military's media wing, the campaign has "caused deep anguish and distress among martyred families and rank and file of the armed forces".

"While the whole nation stood by the institution in this difficult time, certain insensitive quarters resorted to hurtful and derogatory comments on social media which is unacceptable and highly condemnable," the ISPR added.

President Dr Arif Alvi condemned on Friday the "unnecessary controversy" regarding his absence from the funeral of the army helicopter crash martyrs.

Criticizing people’s social media comments on his official Twitter handle, President Alvi condemned in “unequivocal terms the despicable tweets by those who are neither aware of our culture or our religion”.

The president questioned how the people could desecrate the memory and the sacrifice of the martyrs whom “Allah has given eternal life”, and highlighted the respect for martyrdom in the Holy Quran.

“Since you, the Pakistani people have put me in this office...I have called hundreds of families, have attended Janazas and visited them to offer my condolences. On your behalf I consider it my duty to do so,” Alvi said.

He maintained that the families had been “proud” but that everyone was cognizant of grief and personal loss in this world.

“It is especially difficult to condole with families where young children are the survivors,” he stated, adding that he had cried when the family members of the deceased had cried.

He emphasised that Pakistan was safe because of the “ultimate sacrifice” of the martyrs.

Earlier, in an interview to a private news channel, Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Babar Iftikhar was asked about reports that President Arif Alvi was stopped from attending the funeral of martyred army officers since victim families did not want him present there. The spokesperson said he would not comment on it.

The army had strongly condemned what it called “hurtful and derogatory” comments made by a certain group of people following the helicopter crash in which six army officers, including Quetta Corps Commander Lt General Sarfraz Ali embraced martyrdom.

When the news of the army helicopter going missing came, certain people on social media started making derogatory comments. Some of them went to the extent of wishing for the presence of top military leadership on the missing chopper.

Most of those making such comments were apparently from a certain political party, which felt it was hard done by the country’s security establishment.

Without naming any political party, the military’s media wing took strong exception to the campaign on social media.

According to conspiracy theorists, this general is the most senior most general who supports IK and he was killed off as a result by the Americans.

Just a crash here it seems. Not everything is a conspiracy theory.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Sunday sprang into action and constituted a team to trace and arrest those running a negative social media campaign on the tragic incident of army helicopter crash amid flood relief operation in Balochistan, after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said belittling and ridiculing the sacrifices of martyrs was horrifying.

“The social media campaign belittling & ridiculing the sacrifices of our martyrs was horrifying. This is what self-righteous political narratives do: they poison the minds of the youth & weaponise hate speech.

“Which way are we headed? The moment calls for a deep reflection,” PM Sharif wrote on his Twitter handle.

Also, the head of ruling coalition partner Chaudhry Shujaat came up with an appeal to politicians to put aside their political affairs and expediencies and foil the propaganda campaign against the armed forces, a day after a joint resolution was adopted by the Balochistan Assembly “saluting the brave senior officers of Pak-Army who sacrificed their lives to protect the lives of flood-stricken people of Lasbela”.

PM calls for reflection amid ‘horrific’ drive against martyrs

Earlier, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), condemning the “highly unacceptable and regretful social media campaign”, stated it “caused deep anguish and distress among the families of martyrs and rank and file of the armed forces”.

On Sunday, the FIA constituted a four-member team and tasked it with pointing out, arresting and taking legal action against those involved in running a negative social media campaign on the tragic incident of helicopter crash.

The FIA team, to be headed by additional director general of cyber crime wing Mohammad Jaffar, will include director (cyber crime, north) Waqaruddin Saeed and additional director Imran Haider as its members, according to Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb.

After the chopper crash, a section of social media activists and certain political zealots launched an abhorrent and unacceptable online campaign to advance their personal and political malice, which drew a strong reaction from the people belonging to all walks of life, political leadership and the state institutions.

The ruling coalition at the Centre has been blaming the social media team of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf for launching the smear campaign on the behest of PTI chairman Imran Khan. The PTI leadership was also accused of not attending the funeral of Lt-Gen Sarfaraz Ali and other martyrs. However, the PTI leadership attempted to negate the impression as President Arif Alvi phoned the families of the martyrs while Mr Khan visited the residence of martyr, Lt-Gen Ali.

Meanwhile, the Balochistan Assembly in a joint condolence resolution moved by treasury and opposition members and adopted a day ago paid tribute to the six army officers who embraced martyrdom in helicopter crash in the Winder area of Lasbela district while supervising rescue and relief operations in the flood-stricken areas.

The joint resolution stated, “We salute these brave senior officers of Pak-Army who sacrificed their lives to protect the lives of flood stricken people of Lasbela.” It said their sacrifice would always be remembered as they did not bother about their lives while performing their duty and the entire nation was in shock on their shahadat.

“Whenever we need the help of the people, our brave army personnel and officers rush to provide help and comfort to the needy people,” the resolution said and expressed deepest grief and pain over the tragic incident that deprived the nation of the senior army officers.

The resolution was moved by Adviser to the Chief Minister on Home and Tribal Affairs Mir Ziaullah Langove on behalf of Chief Minister Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo, Mohammad Khan Lehri, Mir Nasibullah Marri, Mohammad Khan Toor, Mobin Khilji, Nawabzada Gohram Bugti and Maulana Noorullah.

Provincial ministers Noor Mohammad Dummar and Syed Ehsan Shah, opposition leader Sikander Khan, Abdul Khaliq Hazara, lawmakers Mir Zahoor Ahmed Buledi, Khalil George Bhutto and other members paid tribute to the martyrs.

They recalled that Lt-Gen Ali, as IG Frontier Corps (South) and XII Corps Commander, played an important role in maintaining law and order in the province and guided the youths of Balochistan towards the right direction. His role in the progress and development of Balochistan was unforgettable, as he personally visited far-flung areas of the province to get himself aware about the issues being faced by the people, they added.

While strongly condemning the negative propaganda from some political circles and quarters, they said they were “agents of the enemies” of Pakistan. “If we have such elements, who are making baseless and negative propaganda, we do not need foreign enemies,” they pointed out.

They said the entire nation condemned this propaganda and standing with the families of martyrs.

Appeal to foil campaign

Meanwhile, PML-Q president and ex-premier Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Sunday urged politicians to fully support the armed forces, putting aside their political affairs and expediencies. “Politicians should keep [their] political issues and expediencies aside and foil the propaganda campaign against the armed forces fully supporting defenders of the country,” he said.

Everything could be tolerated except propaganda campaign against the armed forces, he said, adding that the whole nation shared the sorrow and grief of the families of the martyrs.

He said Pakistan Army helped and served the nation in every calamity, trouble and difficult times. “The armed forces have played an important role and laid down their lives in restoring peace and order and ending terrorism in the country and thus deserved respect and support.”

First of all none of the helicopter dead are shaheed.

If you die in an accident it doesn't make you shaheed.

If tomorrow I get run over crossing the road I'm not called a martyr.

Ridiculous dictatorship by the military top brass thinking they are above criticism.

In the west soldiers are not even celebrated most of the ex veterens from Iraq and afghanistan are homeless drunks only in pakistan we venerate people who have lost all wars against India and have done nothing but interfere with the political setup in pakistan and loot the nation and have turned a martial tradition of soldiering into a business venture with pizza empires and real estate and cement and what not .

I wouldn't even buy the propaganda that those on board the mi17 were rescuing people because why would top brass officials and so many of them.be on a helicopter for a rescue mission .

Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed has been appointed the Bahawalpur corps commander, a press release issued by the military’s media wing said on Monday.

He was previously serving as the Peshawar corps commander after being appointed to the office in October 2021, when Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum replaced him as the director-general of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Lt Gen Hameed was given the DG ISI’s role on June 16, 2019, in a surprise military shake-up. He had previously served in the ISI as the head of internal security and comes from the army’s Baloch Regiment.

His appointment had come at a very crucial time when both external and internal security challenges seemed to be growing.

Lt Gen Hameed’s name first caught the public eye over his role in ending the Faizabad dharna by the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan in November 2017 through an agreement. The group had then staged a sit-in against amendments to the Elections Act 2017.

In its press release today, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) named Lt Gen Sardar Hassan Azhar Hayat as the new Peshawar corps commander. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general and appointed as the military secretary in 2020.

Meanwhile, the ISPR added that Lt Gen Khalid Zia had been appointed as the military secretary for the Pakistan Army.

Last week, Lt Gen Asif Ghafoor was appointed as the Commander XII Corps (Quetta), replacing Lt Gen Sarfraz Ali, who was martyred in a helicopter crash. Lt Gen Ghafoor had previously served as the ISPR head.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team — formed to trace and arrest those running a negative social media campaign on the tragic army helicopter crash in Balochistan — has been reconstituted and converted into a joint investigation team (JIT) with representation from the premier intelligence bodies, besides the four FIA officials announced on Sunday.

According to a notification issued by the Interior Ministry on Monday, a copy of which is available with Dawn, the six-member JIT includes Lt Col Saad from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Intelli*gence Bureau (IB) Deputy Director Waqar Nisar Chaudhry.

The four FIA members on the team were Additional Director General (Cybercrime Wing) Muhammad Jaffar, Director (Cybercrime, North) Waqar*uddin Syed, Islamabad Addi*tional Director (Cybercrime Wing) Ayaz Khan and Assistant Director Imran Haider.

The JIT has been tasked with identifying and taking legal action against those involved in running a negative social media campaign on the helicopter crash. After the accident, some social media activists and political zealots launched the deplorable hate campaign online to advance their personal and political malice, which drew a strong reaction from the general public, political leadership and the state institutions.

While the FIA is said to have started putting in place a monitoring system to gather all relevant data, the PTI has warned that any attempts to malign the party under the cover of this malicious campaign would elicit a strong response.

The agency has apparently mobilised all its cybercrime centres in its north zone and deployed its experts, who in the first phase had started acquiring relevant data from social media platforms.

“The teams are using all necessary tools and software for result-oriented efforts,” said an FIA source. “There are known social media platforms, which were used for this negative campaign, and are being monitored. Even the negative posts that were later deleted after public outcry are being retrieved to get an idea of the origin of this content and the people behind their generation.”

PTI vows to prove lies

On the other hand, the PTI vowed that if it was attacked in the name of the FIA probe, it had all the due “capability, skills and human resources” of social media to prove the lies and bring forth the truth.

“We have all the skills and resources to carry out the forensic analysis of any social media campaign,” PTI Secretary General Asad Umar told Dawn. “It’s ridiculous to blame and target the PTI for this campaign. We have a very strong social media team, which has always worked for awareness and respect of the institutions. We have the capability to determine and trace who’s behind all this negative campaign.”

The former minister welcomed the move to penalise those who were running the negative campaign against the institutions, but demanded that any move should be in line with the defined rules and not intended for political vendetta.

He then referred to a youth, who was identified as one of those behind the smear campaign against the army and had later apologised in a video statement for the “objectionable” posts on his accounts.

“That particular boy didn’t have many followers nor was a known person,” he said. “But to make a case, his unnoticed tweets were used by some influencers and media professionals with hundreds of thousands of followers. This proves that it’s more to settle scores than showing respect for any institution.”

The PTI’s response comes in the wake of the ruling coalition in the Centre blaming the social media team of the party for launching the hate campaign at the behest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan. The PTI leadership was also accused of not attending the funeral of Lt Gen Sarfaraz Ali and other martyrs of the chopper crash. However, they attempted to negate the impression, as President Arif Alvi telephoned the families of the martyrs, while Mr Khan visited the residence of Lt Gen Ali.

President Alvi also came under sharp criticism for not attending the martyrs’ funeral being the supreme commander of the armed forces.

Some social media users had alleged the helicopter crash was ‘orchestrated through a conspiracy by the establishment’, however the Pakistan Army spokesperson condemned the negative online propaganda.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) director general had on Friday condemned the “highly unacceptable and regretful social media campaign” after the unfortunate incident. “The online campaign caused deep anguish and distress among the families of martyrs and rank and file of the armed forces,” the ISPR in a statement.

“While the whole nation stood with the institution in this difficult time, certain insensitive quarters resorted to hurtful & derogatory comments on social media,” it said.

4 soldiers martyred in North Waziristan suicide attack: ISPR

Four soldiers were martyred in a suicide blast at a military convoy in the Mir Ali area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district, the military’s media affairs wing said on Tuesday.

The martyred soldiers have been identified as 22-year-old Lance Naik Shahzaib, a resident of Mansehra, 26-year-old Lance Naik Sajjad, hailing from Ghizer, 25-year-old sepoy Umair, a resident of Kohat and 30-year-old sepoy Khurram, a resident of Narowal.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), intelligence agencies have commenced investigations to find out details about the suicide bomber who carried out the attack and his handlers and facilitators.

The “Pakistan Army is determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers will not go unpunished,” the ISPR said.

Attacks on security forces and clashes with suspected terrorists in the North Waziristan tri*bal district have become quite frequent in recent months.

On July 4, at least 10 security personnel were injured when a suicide bomber attacked a convoy of security forces in the area.

Officials said at the time that the convoy was going from Mirali to Miramshah, the district headquarters, when the suicide bomber, who was on a motorcycle, blew himself up near one of the vehicles.

On May 30, a suicide bom*ber riding a motorcycle att*acked another convoy of security forces in the Razmak area, injuring two soldiers and two children.

According to details, the joint committee – including officials from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) – have submitted an initial report to Interior Ministry.

Sources told ARY News that the inquiry team has detected a total of 754 social media accounts responsible for a bulk of the misleading claims and smear campaign against the military.

The inquiry team claimed that over 17 accounts were found to be operating from India whereas 204 accounts were being handled by people inside Pakistan.

Sources further said that the team has identified six people while around 84 people who were shortlisted during the course of the investigations were being thoroughly probed.

Meanwhile, data of 78 persons have been sent to National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) for verification.

The wreckage of an unfortunate Army helicopter that went missing during a relief and rescue operation in the flood-hit Balochistan area has been found in Musa Goth, Winder.

DG ISPR, Major General Babar Iftikhar confirmed the news that all the six officers and soldiers including Corps Commander Southern Command, Lt General Sarfraz Ali embraced martyrdom.

Earlier on Monday, Federal government notified a six-member committee comprising members from the FIA, Intelligence Bureau (IB) and ISI to probe a negative campaign being launched post helicopter crash in Lasbela that saw martyrdom of six Pakistan Army officials including Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ali.

Top post, what you have said is accurate. But this is the truth no one wants to hear, becuase if you say this you become anti national.

The army isnt above criticism. Its just some people have made it that critisizing army ia taboo. Its ironic, considering you can critisize religion but not army.

The shaheed dramabayzi is something they thrive on, the word shaheed has only become a joke .

Pti has its issues, but you cant bash their fans for critisizing the army as that is their right. Pti is not gonna understand this becaude they were the ones that came up with all such rules to protect the army.

Even with shebaz gill being in jail, no pti party member dared to go visit him.

ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to arrest all the people behind the negative propaganda against Lasbela helicopter crash on social media, sources privy to the investigation told Geo News on the condition of anonymity. Sources said that the people who led the campaign will also be arrested after investigating the individuals involved in the propaganda. They added that investigations have shown that Indian accounts were also involved in the social media campaign.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Wednesday alleged that a “negative” social media campaign targeting the tragic incident of an army helicopter crash amid flood relief operations in Balochistan earlier this month was a “joint project” of the PTI and India against the Pakistan Army.

After the chopper crash in Lasbela, a section of social media activists and certain political zealots launched an abhorrent and unacceptable online campaign to advance their personal and political malice, which drew a strong reaction from people belonging to all walks of life, political leadership and the state institutions.

The ruling coalition blames the PTI’s social media team for launching the smear campaign at the behest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

Addressing the issue at a press conference in Islamabad today, Asif said 18 Indian accounts were found to be involved in the social media campaign.

“Their channels say, ‘the work Imran Khan is doing for us, even if we had spent billions of dollars we would not have been able to create the kind of network to safeguard and advance India’s interests in Pakistan as how the PTI and its leader is doing,’” the defence minister said.

Asif claimed that while the nation was mourning the Lasbela helicopter tragedy, the PTI’s social media accounts, with the help of Indian and other offshore social media accounts, were running a “smear campaign” against the country and the army.

Referring to reports run in the media a day ago, Asif said an investigation into the campaign had found that 529 Pakistani accounts, 18 Indian accounts and 33 accounts from other countries were involved.

“This investigation is reaching its conclusion,” he said, adding that action would be taken on the results in accordance with the law and the Constitution.

He said the matter had shamed the entire nation before the martyrs’ families that “there are such people found among us who can fall so low for their political motives.”

Asif said the data was “confirmed and verified” and more revelations would be forthcoming.

The defence minister termed the PTI’s alleged campaign, party leader Shahbaz Gill’s comments regarding the army and subsequent claims of him being tortured in police custody as “diversion” tactics to remove attention from the verdict in the foreign funding case.

Asif said that Imran had subsequently distanced himself from Gill’s comments when he saw that the move had ended up hurting the PTI instead of accruing any dividend or political benefit.

The defence minister called for this process of diversionary tactics to be “stopped immediately”.

Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cybercrime wing in a major operation has identified Twitter accounts involved in spreading fake news about the military and the army chief.

A person named Engineer Naveed whose Twitter account (Engr_Naveed111) tweeted a video on his handle claiming that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa attended the Independence Day ceremony at the Pakistan High Commission in London held on August 14, 2022.

However, the video turned out to be a year old when the army chief visited Ukraine in May, 2021.

Ukrainian singer, Nataliya Shmarenkova had performed Junaid Jamshed’s iconic patriotic song “Dil Dil Pakistan” in a special function honouring Pakistan’s Independence during army chief’s visit to the country last year.

According to sources, Naveed’s Twitter account belongs to an overseas Pakistani whose real name is Muhammad Naveed Afzal and a resident of Punjab’s Jhang district as per official record.

Afzal is a PTI supporter and followed by party’s Twitter handles, they added.

The fake news spread about the army chief was liked by 64,000 people and retweeted by 9,000 people including some prominent personalities, majority of them belongs to PTI, the insiders said.

Fake and hateful content is being spread on social media under a well-planned conspiracy in an attempt to create hatred between military and the people, the added.

Earlier this month, sources had said the authorities were preparing to make arrests of the characters involved in the malicious campaign against the martyrs of Lasbela helicopter crash, and their instigators, as the investigation by a six-member team continued.

According to the sources, the investigation agencies were conducting round-the-clock probe to bring the characters of this hate-campaign to its logical conclusion. They added that startling disclosures had been made in the ongoing investigation.

The government ordered an investigation after certain political zealots and a section of social media activists launched an abhorring campaign on popular social media platforms to advance their personal and political malice, following the army helicopter crash on August 1.

It added that that the injured soldiers were taken to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Rawalpindi.

The funeral prayers of the martyred soldiers were offered at Mangla Garrison.
Rawalpindi Corps Commander Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza and other military officials participated in the funeral prayers.

The bodies would be sent back to their hometowns and buried with “full military honours”, the ISPR added.

The truck — part of a military convoy — was heading towards Mang Bajri in Bagh district when the incident occurred near Shujaabad, some 12km before its destination, at about 4am on Sunday, Reuters quoted military officials as saying.

Local police said that the truck fell 500 feet down the ravine.

A police official said the noise from the crash alerted nearby residents. He added that the residents rushed to the scene with cellular phones and lanterns to carry out rescue work.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his sorrow and grief over the accident.
In his message on Twitter, he wrote: “We pray to Allah Almighty to raise the ranks of the martyrs and give the bereaved patience.”

He added that the entire nation, including himself, paid homage to the young men who laid down their lives for the country's survival as well as their brave families.

AJK Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas expressed similar sentiments over the incident.

“They met this tragic accident in the line of their duty in the most difficult and rough terrains — a duty that makes us feel safe and secure in our homes,” he tweeted.

“May Allah accept their martyrdom and grant speedy recovery to their injured colleagues. My condolences to the bereaved families and Pakistan Army,” he added.

Road accidents frequently occur in the hilly areas of AJK and are mostly blamed on narrow roads with negligible safety measures as well as careless driving.

In November last year, a bus plunged into a ravine in AJK killing 22 passengers.

A day later, the wreckage of the helicopter was found near Musa Goth, with all personnel on board embracing martyrdom. According to the ISPR, the accident occurred due to bad weather.

‘Too many crashes’
Reacting to the news of the latest crash, PTI’s Fawad Chaudhry said helicopter flying was getting dangerous, adding that this required “engineering evaluation”.

“Too many crashes […] rest in peace bravehearts. All were too young to die,” he said.
