Asad Shafiq vs Faisal Iqbal - who is the better Test batsman?

Please

Asad for all his faults is far superior

Faisal had style that made him look far better than what he actually was

lol what's up with all the comparison threads? IIRC Faisal Iqbal was a sifarashi right?

Shafiq by a million miles.

Until the last nine months, Asad Shafiq was the equal of Azhar Ali, which means the same as Saleem Malik or Zaheer Abbas, a bit better than Ijaz Ahmed or Majid Khan.

Unfortunately the succession of away series has reduced Asad Shafiq's record slightly.

Shafiq easily. Faisal though, had the talent to surpass Shafiq and forge a successful career for Pakistan, but he was a bigger coward than Shafiq, which is no mean feat.

Obviously Shafiq. He has achieved far more than Iqbal, even though Shafiq is the perennial underachiever.

Naa kar

Shafiq is 17th all time in scoring for Pakistan in Tests. Already ahead of Ramiz Raja, Moin Khan and Faisal Iqbal; Just to name a few...

Asad Shafiq.

For me given the Opposition and mostly tough away tours Asim Kamal was a better Test Batsman than Faisal, Misbah & Shafiq uptil now.

But if Shafiq ends his career with an Average of 50 than I will consider him the best amongst these 4.

Inzamam destroyed Asim's Career. His temperament & concentration was matchless. He was one of those rare batsmen who were slightly above average in domestic Cricket but once they wore star on their chest they performed brilliantly.

Where was Asim Kamal going to play in that middle-order ? The only vacancy was as an opener in that Test team.

Woolmer always wanted an AR at 6 or 7 instead of a specialist batsman like Kamal. That's why the likes of Afridi and Razzaq played so many Tests during that time.

Agreed, need to get Salman Butt into the team to replace him.

Seeing Faisal Iqbal's name reminded me of this quote I read earlier today

"I've always had my age as a disadvantage," Misbah said recently. "When I entered first-class cricket or played international, it was the same. At that time you would retire at 32-33, so everyone said, if this guy is debuting at 27, he isn't a long-term option. I suffered a lot due to that, was discouraged by the lack of chances. But I survived because cricket is something I love. It was only because it was my passion that I continued to play as I did.

"I made my debut with Imran Farhat, Faisal Iqbal and Mohammad Sami. They were youngsters, so they were given chances after that."

All that time devoted to a trio of youngsta beauties including Sami who has a higher test bowling average than Younis does with the bat :))

25 Tests Faisal Iqbal played should have gone Asim's way.

Younis, Yousuf & Inzamam should have played at 3,4 & 5. I don’t remember Afridi or Razzaq batting at number 6 during those days.

Asim played exceptionally with the tail aswell.

But you have to see certain things :

1. When Asim Kamal was dropped from Test Team than in those two years ie 2005 to 2007 In how many matches Faisal Iqbal, Shahid Afridi & Abdul Razzaq played at number 6 out of the total ~ 20 Test matches ?

2. Once Asim was dropped despite having far superior performances than Faisal Iqbal than he lost the confidence completely and could never recover. Hence from 2007-2011 Faisal played around 15-18 Test matches and averaged 23-25. So discarding Asim Kamal altogether was totally unjustified.

As much as Shafiq irritates me - he is far superior batsman to bhaanja

and even in the innigs he scored, he had multiple lives....for xample, the 100 against england had atleast 3 simple chances dropped for him.....

shafiq is xtremly over-rated and simple plain pathatic.... would have a youngster like Salahuddin or Umar Amin coming in and batting at 6.... just shamesless (fawad alam has to come in and slot in at no4 and we need to find a no5 ..)
