This is the sort of pitch where Travis Head will make a run-a-ball 120 almost like he's batting on another deck.

I do like Starc but he is as a lesser bowler in tests than ODI.

When I got up and saw he had a 7fer I assumed that the pitch wouldn't be easy for batting

Lol, to make matters worse, Australia dropped their recent saviour Webster for an extra pure batsman (both Weatherald and Marnus failed). Looking like a blunder atm.

Performed against India on debut, scored 72 in the WTC final and performed against West Indies in Barbados when Australia was crumbling. Huge miss for them, especially, in this situation.
Yeah and they are relying on a guy on debut, Khawaja, who is rapidly declining, and Labuscahagne who hasn't looked good for Australia in a long while.

I would have kept Labuscahagne because he has recent Shield cricket runs under his belt, but for sure they should have picked one out of Weatherald and Khawaja

Kind of ironic that Marnus ended up opening today anyway, lol. Would have been able to fit Webster in easily instead of Weatherald. Plus, another bowling option if required.

Chalo, let's see how this game ends up playing out.

Hard to disagree tbh. Tis a great rivalry.

It would've been great if Ind vs Pak rose to the occasion but alas, the latter is busy self-immolating.
India and Pakistan ashes style series would be a cringefest even if the teams were evenly matched.

This is why it was important to prepare flat wickets with bounce for England (min. lateral movement)

Put England under the pump by making them bowl spell after spell.

Now a days 2 or 3 life's are not sufficient for head to make a decent score. He requires either atleast 6 to 7 chances or grade D attack.

There's no India v Pakistan Test series. So that's out of the question.

Among the rest of the series. Ashes takes the Cake

Absolute garbage pitch given by Australia in consecutive years at Perth.

17 wickets fell on 1st day last year.

16 wickets already today.

People won't moan about pitch today as the match isn't played in the Asia.

My only criticism is the commentary team on TNT. Not cringe but pretty bland, would have been good if they just gave us the channel 9 feed

17 wickets already in the day

Perth is truly a batsman’s nightmare and a seamer’s paradise

19 overs still remaining in the day

The last time 18 (or more) wickets fell on the opening day of an Ashes Test was back in 1909 at Old Trafford (Aus 147/10 & Eng 119/10).
