What's new

Ashish Nehra was my idol - Wayne Parnell

I still can't believe what I'm seeing - Nehra back bowling and taking wickets in a World Cup for India. Brings back great memories of 2003.

TBH Nehra was the guy who I always feared.

He had a knack of taking wickets against us and owning our batsmen.

Joke is on all of you.

I am Pakistani but Nehra like every other Indian bowler has KA-POWED Pakistan.

37 years old, and making Khwaja look like a school-boy. The real comeback king. :nehra

Nehra ji since his comeback:

1/30
0/34
1/32
2/21

1/17
3/23
1/20
1/23
1/33

And for his fans here is an old snap of Nehra ji with a star struck fan you may recognise.

^^ Damn! I was thinking about posting the pic :|

Who would have thought they'd be team mates.. :nehra

Most economical bowler today. Damn, other bowlers messed it up for the champ :nehra

Mystifying why he didn't play any tests after 2004. He himself said in an interview recently that he was ready to play but was never asked back. Of course, India didn't do too badly in test cricket till Kirsten was coach, but surely they missed a trick not having Nehra partner Zaheer. Would have been a far better partnership than Srinath and Prasad.

He had an excellent tournament. Has been bowling superbly since last year's IPL.

Brilliant bowler. Best left arm pacer of all time.

Just realised that Nehra is in the T20 squad for the series against England later this month. Probably the last time we'll see the great man wear the India shirt. :(

After the thrashing in last pre-match , i doubt Nehra will play for India again.

Hopefully Parnell has a better role-model now. He's outgrown his idol.

What has parnell done in his career that outdid nehras performances? World cup medal? Dont post rubbish without facts

Chill out, Nehraji's BFF. Parnell is a good bowler who has a chance to establish himself as a member of one of the premier pace attacks in the world. A failure at the international level like Nehra is not the ideal role-model for a young, South African quick.

Nehra had a lot going for him; a good action, excellent seam, decent pace but some how he could never get it together over a period of time.

Lol Parnell is so bad Nehra appears a great bowler when compared to him.:yk3

I genuinely can't remember a match he has played where he hasn't been taken to the cleaners.

Yeah, still looks cute. Want to pull his cheeks. but what about that smile from Sir Ashish? :AAG:

Nehraji has the look of a zen monk..You know the look the enlightened ones have like master oogway in the kung fu panda.:yk

You can see the contrast in the looks between the two guys. Can see the ice cool look in Nehraji's eyes and the fiery look in little Virat's eyes.:kohli

Couldn't have said it better. Kohli is the yin to Nehraji's Yang.

Only thing I'm saying is that he has outgrown Nehra as a role-model. International failures like Nehra are okay to look up to when you're a kid (even though you really should be looking up to a Wasim instead) but when you're a 27 year old South African pacer, it's just weird.

People don't have the 'skill' factor as the only consideration when they are looking for role models. He might have related more with Aashish Nehra and hence had him as his role model. Lol it's funny that people are offended that not everyone has Wasim as their idol.

I hope people read the part where he said that Nehra was only an early role-model and once he started playing himself, Parnell stopped taking him as his "idol".

Lmao why are you so defensive about Parnell Billoo?

Guy is literally a no name bowler and I doubt he has achieved even what Nehra achieved in his career and that's saying something.:yk

You need to understand where he is coming from. He was a child during the 2003 World Cup in SA, and all he saw of Wasim was get thrashings from Sachin , Viru and many others. Nehra on the other was swinging it both ways at late-140s, bowled spell of the tournament and took his team to the final. So it made sense for that kid to choose Nehra over Wasim.

And once that kid grew up, he knew that a rubbish Indian pacer was not a worthy role-model. To be honest, no Indian pacer should ever be taken as a role-model by anyone who aims to have a long international career.

I'm just putting Nehra fans in their place. Someone has to show the sheep that their shepherd is rubbish.

Pretty sure Parnell will end his career as the better bowler. The fact that he's getting to play in a South African attack that is vastly superior than India's has ever been shows that he's potentially a good bowler. Nehra played what? 7 test matches?

Waleed went for 10.50 an over the other day vs SL. Let's see if Nehra can do any better today.

Never rated him much but realised during the world t20s that he wasn't that bad..He has been a fine LOI bowler for India and was the part of world cup winning team in 2011 and did well in WC 2016 too..

However, its hard to digest that anyone would consider him as an idol..

Standout bowler in IPL, standout bowler in CLT20, was amazing at the T20 WC and now carrying on with the great performances here too.

Nehra ji, you are still bowling well but your fielding costs us 12-15 runs every game, time to retire gracefully

Nehra is the best bowler since his comeback. He always plays with a smile. He and sehwag were scooter buddies since under 15 level. He is a very good limited overs bowlers but he doesnt have the stamina for tests and keeps getting injured.

I am very happy for his success. But his fielding and catching is comical. He is what u call specialist bowler in true sense

That was a brilliant 1st over maiden from Nehra. One of the best T20 bowlers today? :nehra

Seeing his only fan getting spanked by Bangalis, Nehra announces retirement from all forms.

Must be a gloomy day for Parnell :(

His hindi commentary in IPL is very impressive. Good job Nehra ji.
