Asia Cup 2018 - Broadcast Thread

Some websites are claiming that Sky Sports Cricket will have it, but on their broadcast TV listings page it goes up to 11th of September so not sure.

It won't be on sky sports I think. They don't broadcast Pakistan when they play in the UAE unless they are playing England.

Guys, I highly doubt that Sky Sports will be showing the Asia Cup here in UK. The tournament is in UAE, even if it was in India I would have my doubts as it's not a bilateral series. I think one of the Asian channels will pick it up, although with that being said, no one showed it at all here in 2016! Had to watch on Yupp TV.

Didn't Zing broadcast it in 2016?

Sky has the rights to indias home matches, maybe were the rumour came from. fingers crossed would love to see pak vs india with a decent analysis/comms team.

Does anyone know if Willow will broadcast it in the US? Its not mentioned on their website.

Knock Knock Neighbour

I still don't understand why couldn't they just switch the AFG V BD match with IND v PAK match date? seems like it would make the most sense

Traveling expenses (sounds cheap but it's likely penny pinching).

Afghanistan is already in Abu Dhabi because of their game on the 17th.

Had to make do with YUPP TV last time, their app and coverage was terrible.

Best case scenario is one of the free to air providers in the UK picks up the coverage :amir3

The UAE is a small country and from what I’ve heard Abu Dhabi and Dubai aren’t far from each other.

Ideally India should have rest day between matches. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a team playing back to back 50 over matches.

I have IPTV as well but much prefer to watch it live on satellite. Nothing more annoying than getting whatsapps/texts from people when there's a wicket/boundary several minutes before I see it on IPTV :warner2

Really enjoyed seeing the Pak/Zim/Aus series love and free on Prime TV and praying they get the Asia Cup as well

These are the moments in time when I'm grateful I have IPTV :smith

You clearly have to check which IPTV subscriber you're with, along with your net connection because that doesn't sound right at all :))

I mean switching the date wouldn't make a huge difference. If you look at the venus, india/pakistan would have still been at Dubai and Afg would be at Abu Dubai. So not sure what it has to do with travelling expenses here. The only team that would be travelling from Dubai to AbuDubai is BD which they had to do regadless of if Ind-Pak happened on 19th or 20th.

you must be with a very good one if its the same speed as Sky , my download speed is 36Mb/sec (which isn't fantastic by any means) but anything I see even on official apps like NowTV , SkyGo or BT sports app is always a good minute or so behind the live broadcast :dw

I'm with VM on VIVID-100 105.2 Mbps. The most delayed stream I've seen is 20 seconds. Also if you have a problem with getting messages etc, then just mute your phone and dig a ditch and throw it in there.

clever idea. all I'm saying is it's better for everyone if it's on free to air even you :hafeez2

I'll keep my fingers crossed

I thought Yupp was decent for the money. As long as I can put it up on my TV i dont mind.

Good to see Star has yet again started taking digs at Pakistan. All of this will hit them back when Pakistan destroys India in the knockouts and Amir further proves that Kohli is indeed his bunny:steyn

Definitely won't be Sky Sports in the UK. So it's either one of the Asian channels or no one at all.

Don't know who will be broadcasting Asia cup in Australia. Anyways there is always cricbuzz and cricinfo to follow the scores.

Hi all.
Can someone please help me? I am currently in Dubai until 13th September, so sadly I miss the cricket, but I was hoping someone could tell me if I could at least watch the Pakistanis training? Or any other situation? Before I head home. I am desperate to see the boys in any capacity as I live in Australia, and rarely get the opportunity. Please please please PM me or something so I don't miss out whilst i'm here in Dubai.
Thank you.

And I apologize if this is the wrong thread to post such a query. Can someone please let me know if there is a more appropriate thread. Thank you

The players are in a camp at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore until 10th September, so I'm not sure when they're expected to depart for UAE.

Just keep an eye on social media etc. and you'll know when they're there and perhaps you can see/meet them at some point before leaving.

Any update on UK broadcaster?

Star India holds global media rights for the Asia Cup till 2023. Unless Star do not find a buyer at the right price (like they did in 2016 when they sold the rights to Yupp TV), then they will 100% broadcast it on one of their own channels for example Star Plus or Star Gold.

I think i have asked before but didnt get a clear answer, Pakistan vs India match, is this a day and night match, or day match, trying to figure the start time of the match, i live in montreal canada, so thats eastern standard time

If games start at 6AM UK time I'm unsure if Sky would pick up the rights but then again India vs Pakistan is arguably the most watched cricket game alongside probably the Ashes in the UK. Hopefully it goes to an Asian channel.

Any moka type Ad for Asia cup?

Typical , these organizers just can't get basic things right like scheduling big matches on weekends to get maximum audience at ground and internationally on TV and making it easier for those of us who go to work and school (oh wait a minute that's most of us).

But no instead we have Pak v India, and semi finals and final during weekdays (Mon-Fri), might as well get the players to play in suits and ties while you are at it.

Oh well might get to watch the big game between Afghanistan and Bangladesh on a weekend.

^^ oh I was wrong, even that big game between Afghan v Bangla is being played mid week.

Asia Cup has always featured India vs Pakistan but Sky Sports have never shown it, and most likely they never will. It's either going to be a small Asian channel, or no one at all.

Yeah, doubt Sky would pick it up. I remember one of the Zee channels used to show it.

It'll be one of the UK-based Asian channels, won't it? :(

The ads alone are going to be infuriating.

People are forgetting that (in UK) it may not be anyone. Last one there was no broadcaster at all, which was disappointing.

The 2014 Asia Cup I remember was on Star Life Ok channel. Hopefully it’s on Star Gold or Bharat in the UK. However with the early starts and considering they never showed 2016’s which was T20 will they bother?

Sky Sports wont be showing it. Don't think they ever have and I doubt they ever will.

Will most probably be a someone like ZEE or Star Life or Channel 44

What hasn't been discussed in this thread is that there are concurrent matches on two days.

Friday, September 21st:
Group A Winner vs Group B Runner-Up
Group B Winner vs Group A Runner-Up

Sunday, September 23rd:
Group A Winner vs Group A Runner-Up
Group B Winner vs Group B Runner-Up

Will both matches be broadcast on these days?

Based on TV Scheduling, both matches will broadcast.

YUPP TV - Europe(Excluding UK),New Zealand & Australia.
Hotstar - USA & Canada.
OSN Cricket - UAE
Ten Sports & PTV Sport - Pakistan
Star Sports, Hotstar and DD Sports - India
Maasranga & GTV - Bangladesh

Still no news on who will broadcast the tournament in the UK.

Right guys, I have just received an email from Star India that they will be launching Hotstar in the UK this week, and that we will be able to watch the Asia Cup and more on the Hotstar streaming platform.

Commentators

NO HARSHA, SANJAY ON AIR

Meanwhile, the commentators for the tournament have been finalised and the list does not include the regular faces – Sanjay Manjrekar and Harsha Bhogle. Both currently associated with Sony for the on-going Test series but so is Sunil Gavaskar, who features in the extensive commentary panel, that will also have some neutral voices.

Apart from Gavaskar, L Sivaramakrishnan and VVS Laxman (Zaheer Khan if VVS can’t make it) will be there from India with Rameez Raja and Aamer Sohail representing the Pakistan point of view.

Dean Jones, who had coached Afghanistan, will be the rising team’s voice while Kumar Sangakkara and Russel Arnold will be from Sri Lanka.

Athar Ali Khan has always been the face of Bangladesh while Brett Lee and Kevin Pietersen have been roped in as neutral voices of the tournament that starts on September 15. “It is the best commentary panel ever for an Asia Cup,” said a BCCI official. The matches will be shown on Star Sports.

How have Sky not snapped this up?

"Padosi jo aa rahe hain knockout karne".

How is this a dig on Pakistan? This is rather a dig on India. They seem to know the crap team that we have this time :))

And btw, Kohli is not in the Asia Cup squad.

Wasn't Mitchell Johnson supposed to be part of the commentary team?

Good to hear:

B Lee
D Jones
K Pietersen
K Sangakarra
VVS Laxman

Average:

S Gavaskar
R Raja
R Arnold

Annoying:

AA Khan
A Sohail
L SR Krishnan

I would've loved to have these to replace some annoying voices there

Ian Bishop (CPL will be over) (N)
F Mohammed (N)
S Ganguly (I)
M Slater / D Warner / S Warne / B Mc(N)
Bazid Khan (P, boring but, atleast good analyst and knows players)

When are we expected to find out if it will be broadcasted in the UK? Don't really want to stream the games.

Hotstar has been launched in UK and is advertising cricket including Asia Cup. I'm guessing this is the best we'll get as for coverage. Monthly subscription is £11.99.
