Good to see more Asian lads coming through into County Cricket.

LANCASHIRE COUNTY Cricket Club is delighted to announce that Academy graduates Haseeb Hameed, Matthew Parkinson and Saqib Mahmood have signed professional terms with the Red Rose.

The highly promising trio have already represented England at under 19 level and join Ashley Giles’ squad for the 2015 campaign after a string of impressive performances.

Hameed, who hails from Bolton, is an exciting batsman who in the last third of the 2014 season began an outstanding run of form for Lancashire's Second XI and England under 19s.

His scores and contribution in winning cricket matches added weight to the argument that at only 17 years old he is the outstanding batsman at under 19 level in the country.

Successive scores of two 97s and a century for England u19s in defeating South Africa u19s in the first three ODIs of last summer being standout performances.

Parkinson, also from Bolton, is a right arm leg spinner who has been an ever present in Lancashire's representative sides from an early age. His development and potential was recognised last season when he was given the opportunity to shine on an England Age Group stage. Once selected he took six wickets on debut against South Africa under 19s and followed this days later with another six wicket haul against Pakistan under 17s, which included a hat trick. This followed a match winning performance with the Lancashire Second XI where he took 6 for 28 against Glamorgan.

Rochdale resident Saqib Mahmood was selected to join Lancashire's Academy two years ago and his progress as a quick bowler has been significant during this time. After one season he was elevated onto the England Development Programme and has developed a greater understanding of his game. He bowls with really good pace and has a natural shape away from the right handed bat.

He has played in Lancashire's Second Team and has opened the bowling for England under 17s and u19s; making his International debut against South Africa under 19s in 2014.

Cricket Director and Head Coach Ashley Giles said: “Internal development will be key to our medium and long term sustainability and success. These young players are the future of Lancashire cricket and I look forward to working closely with them over the coming years.”

Academy Director, John Stanworth, added: “I am delighted the County have recognised the potential and achievements of these three youngsters and given them the opportunity to develop quickly as full time professionals.”

Great news! never got why more Asians are never picked up from a early stage. There is so much British Asian talent especially in the inner city areas!! It's just beyond me why they never end up playing at the county level, most often they end up going down the wrong path because they have the attitude that they'd never make it. I hope ECB can do more to encourage and support youth in the inner city, trust me they wouldn't need to look else where especially for pace bowlers.
