Perhaps he can, but why should he? This country does not deserve the services of brilliant people who are discriminated against because of their religious beliefs. A country that will always a remain a third world hub of terrorism. Nothing will change in the future as well.
 
This land was created on the name of Islam and till the final hour it will remain as such. No room for blasphemours. That’s the verdict of the majority.

This country isn’t in mess due to Mullahs, rather the bhuttos and sharifs. And we have staunch supporters of both on this forum. Blaming it on rizvi

Majority on this forum would’ve opposed the actions of Prophet and the companions due to crazy thinking.

Imran deserves this humiliation. For 22 years, he criticized and mocked those in power with his narcissism and Messiah complex, but now when the time has for him to walk the talk and show how it is done, he is flopping badly. This is a consequence of his arrogance and self-serving attitude.

Riding a horse-cart looks easy unless you are the one holding the reigns. Politics of criticism and "I will do this and I will do that" is very easy. However, once you are in a position of power, you realize that it is not what it always seems and there are so many factors that play a role.

More than Imran Khan, the brainwashed supporters of PTI deserve this humiliation, who are disgustingly still defending this farce. You have to feel sorry for them - they are slaves and have given up the capacity for independent thinking.

I agree - this land was created in the name of Islam for Muslims, so I have a proposal that will upheld the spirit of Islam in Pakistan:

Orya Maqbool should be Finance Minister, Ansar Abbasi should be Minister of Islam (Create a new department while we are at it). Zaid Hamid would be perfect as the Defence Minister and Siraj-ul-Haq as Foreign Minister. Best of all, make Khadim Rizvi the official Pakistan Spokesman.

Not only are these people smarter and have a higher caliber than kaafirs like Atif Mian, they will also fight for the glory of Islam and ensure that Pakistan will remain a shining light in the Muslim world.

You do remember that this land was created in the name of Islam, but you are also forgetting something:

It’s funny how PMLN supporters are beating the horse here when in reality it’s their party who blew this out of proportion and brought a resolution against Atif’s appointment in the senate. Also needless to say they went missing in this thread after the appointment only to return when their party had successfully created a chaos in the county and put people’s lives in danger. Please keep your holier than thou attitude to yourself. We can clearly see your hypocrisy.

That is text book hypocrisy, don't know what you're talking about. And why even go to countries and live equally as minorities while subjugating and oppressing the ones back home? Since they clearly don't share the same values. We're a nation of double standards.
 
I totally agree with this. He was wrongfully removed. What is he supposed to do? He is a Pakistani citizen, not supporting a sect of your country leads to separatist movements. Even in our religion it teaches us that let a person follow any religion they wish.

The Mullahs in Pakistan have no idea about the rich Islamic history. These corrupt Mullahs are full of nepotism; they take advantage of our uneducated society. Sad day for Pakistan! The guy was extremely capable, and his religion/being a minority should not be used as a weapon against him.

If going by this, then the founder of Pakistan was also from a minority sect. These so called saviours of religion need to be delt with! This is not what Islam stands for and should in no way shape or form be used against a citizen of a country!
 
I believe for Ahmedi to get rights either of the two things have to happen
1) Ahmadis have do declare themselves as a minority.
2)Pakistan to become a secular state.

If one of the two things don’t happen, I don’t see them getting their due rights.

It was Bhutto who declared Ahmedis non-Muslims. Zia simply built on the foundation Bhutto laid down.
 
Disappointed with the decision but country's situation is very futile for any maulana drama. Too much happening and need to focus on the important stuff, atif can guide and consult from behind the scenes. There has to be a long term plan to deal with these mullahs, pull the rug under them without them realizing.

I agree, ultimately Pakistan is the biggest loser here. After political point scoring and criticizing PTI to our hearts’ content, we will lament Pakistan’s loss.
 
Noon league supporters are amazing.

First they criticize Imran and side with the religious parties who want Atif Mian removed.

Then they critisize Imran when Atif Mian is removed because now they are magically liberals.

Regardless, this fighting between political parties is slowly starting to make space for religious nuts. Khadim Rizwi has now had three major victories (khatm e nabuwat fiascio, the dutch blasphemy event, and now this. A few more and he will be a significant political force in a few years time. That wont be good for Pakistan.
 
Disgusted... With the recent decisions of IK, my support for the newly formed PTI govt. is dwindling.

Anyone with any sort of connection to a western institution will leave, they'll have no other option, otherwise they'll be seen as supporting the decision to remove Atif, and in western academics, where leftist politics sway, if you wanna be taken seriously, you don't wanna be seen as siding with fascism.

Whats curious is that every single one of them who've left have left the door open on the Pak govt contacting them for advice. Wonder if it's gonna become like a sort of star chamber, meetings held over skype. Just imagine that's the case and Sheikh Rasheed walks in.

Including Atif Mian, three have left the EAC. All three are overseas Pakistanis, and now only local Pakistanis are left in the EAC.

These are the credentials of those who have left. Only in Pakistan would such names be compromised on for the sake of keeping the mullahs happy.

London-based economist Dr Imran Rasul has become the second member of government's Economic Advisory Council (EAC) to resign following the exclusion of US-based academic Dr Atif R. Mian, who was asked to step down from the body due to backlash over his Ahmadiyya faith.

Some of you guys should read Atif's article in dawn. It's all very common sense. Good governance is key, without that no expert can help you. It's top priority for PTI, so they are on right track.

What I want to know is why isn’t our Khalifa-in-chief CJP not taken any notice of this. A person was discriminated against because of his belief/religion/sect. Something that is protected under the constitution. Why is CJP not taking suo moto action on this matter. Does the capitulation shown by the incoming govt. not sending a bad precedent for the future. What happened to protecting the rights of the minorities. When it comes to religion, sab ki bolti band hojati hai.

Ahamdis don’t consider themselves minorities.How can constitution help him when they Ahamdis don’t designate themselves as non-Muslim?

I think the point is we get happy when people like Bilawal make a speech against extremists. We clap and cheer for such useless acts but in reality nothing much is being done to fight extremism.

It is a difficult battle. I want us to fight extremism as well. I think IK has many qualities and is the best leader we can have but I think the best solution to fighting extremism is fixing educational system + economical improvement that would give people more awareness.

If you use force such as sacking mullah, you just make them martyrs.

Agree with promoting education and economic development, but should we let Mullahs dictate economic policy to us. The capitulation by these thugs made some sense by the previous govt. Hounded by the judiciary, out of favor with the army and hated by the masses they were standing on one leg with both hands tied behind their backs. Any sort of political turmoil would have been a complete disaster for them. But witnessing how easily IK and Co. gave up on this appointment, afraid of putting their foot down and staying firm, showing no backbone at all, is very disheartening to see.
 
It’s was not only Mullahs who were against this decision but general public were not happy as well. You think Salman Taseer guard who killed him was a Mullah? He was your every day common man.
 
Today on a talk show Fawad Chaudhry mentioned that:

We did not expect this sort of reaction.

It was an advisory position with no real powers so the reaction we got was very surprising.

I learned that he has advised and has been employed by Saudi Arabia

We wanted to avoid conflict.

Atif has a magic wand that will suddenly get billions of Dollars into PK as exports or will find a miraculous way to pay off billions in loans and interest. What a load of rubbish.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like you understand the Economy that much. Economy was in such a bad shape that every expert suggested going to IMF (meant that it was in DISASTROUS condition left by PMLN). You could bring 10 Atif Mians but no one would be able to reduce the massive deficits for the government, they needed time and it took 2 years to stabilise it for long term gains. Majority of those targets HAVE BEEN achieved, these were macro level steps so please don't judge the success with rates of Aaalu and Tamaatar.

When Atif was approached, he was one of about dozens experts who were in the team. Even this year, Imran Khan said that he was still consulted when anchor Maalick asked question why don't you consult him quietly.

The thing is when an average person talks about Economy, they are actually talking about inflation which was high for obvious reasons (to stabilise Economy at macro level). Eventually inflation will also go down (happening already), & it would have been lot quicker had Corona hadn't destroyed the economies world over.
