In the IPL, teams participate in an auction system where they bid for players, and the highest bidder gets the player. For example, teams bid for players like Virat Kohli, and the team with the highest bid gets him.

In the PSL, a draft system is used where teams select players in a fixed order. Each team gets a turn to choose a player. For example, if it's Lahore Qalandars' turn, they select a player from their draft list.

The PSL draft system is such that each team has a fixed order in which they select players. Each team gets a turn to choose a player, and then the next team selects another player on their turn. This process continues until all teams have completed their squads.

Fixed order means that each team gets a specific sequence to choose players. For example, if the list has Islamabad United first, followed by Karachi Kings, then Lahore Qalandars, and so on, each team gets a turn to select a player. If Lahore Qalandars selects Shaheen Shah Afridi, then the other teams do not get the opportunity to select Shaheen Shah Afridi, but they still get the chance to choose other players available on their turns.

Some people consider this system unfair, especially for teams that don't get an early turn. Each team gets a chance to select their priority players, but they need to work with the right strategy and planning.

Teams' lists are usually prepared by league organizers. This list is determined according to the league's rules and guidelines. Normally, the order of teams is decided based on the previous season's performance or some predetermined method.

PSL does not use the auction system because PSL franchises are not as financially strong as IPL franchises. The draft system is financially stable and predictable for league organizers and franchises. In the auction system, teams have to bid for players, and these bids can be unpredictable. Some players may receive high bids, which can affect teams' budgets. Also, managing budgets becomes difficult in the auction system, and teams may end up spending more money on players.

In the draft system, each team receives a fixed budget and gets a chance to select players according to their budget constraints. This allows franchises to control their finances and gives them the opportunity to balance their teams.

In your opinion, which system is the best system? Draft system or auction system? And which system is more fair and transparent?

Nothing can beat an auction. PSL needs to move towards a combination of direct signings, auction for top tier foreign, top Pakistani players and a draft for the local players. Payments to Pakistani players should be made in PKR.

Both aree very stupid ways.

The issue is not the drafting or auction, issue is how IPL and PSL conduct these things.

Once a player has been drafted or auctioned. Why should the franchise be forced to let him go back to the market after the season ends?

Drafting and Auction should mean, once you get the player he is yours an if you dont want him, you either trade him or throw him in the free market where anyone can make a direct contract with him. To make things more interest, add waivers, where in the free market first priority is to be given to the teams that came last in the previous season so that they can make there squad better.

The drafting should be done for new players that dont have a professional cricket contract yet, or guys 19-23. Anyone above 23 should be in the free market.

Why is the draft system only for local players? It could shatter their confidence and may not provide a fair opportunity. Besides, Pakistani players already receive amounts in PKR.

A lot of franchise owners have complained because of the existing draft system, they feel they are over paying some of the local players in comparison to their quality, value and they should not be forced to pay USD$ for local players.

The LPL did the auction system this year. It’s not as simple as it is made to look in the IPL

A lot of the franchises are clueless on how to bid, and they often just don’t bid for 80% of the players in the draft. By the end of it, they realise that they have only bought 4-5 players and still have 50-60% of their purse left to spend. It’s a waste of time if you don’t know what you are doing

If both systems are stupid so which one would you recommend?

For me auction system isn't right, it just make some feel more privileged than others also it just puts an extra pressure on the players with monstrous price tags.

Of course, I also have objections over the draft system because I think it doesn't provide a fair opportunity. Organizers create a list of teams based on their performances in previous seasons, and according to that list, teams select players. For example, if Lahore Qalandars are at the top of the list and they have chosen Shaheen Shah Afridi, then other teams lose the chance to pick Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Yes, the more money you have, the more chances you have to include your preferred players in the squad.

i will go with auction system so u can be better analysed and can get picked as per ur worth.
Absolutely, but sometimes, despite analysis and budget planning, surprises can occur in the auction. Another franchise may suddenly place higher bids.

true but its always all about the money to make a better franchise, if u have it then u can make it else u will get the Umar Akmal type players. :ROFLMAO:

chacha got money as per his age :ROFLMAO:
He'd get more respect for being as decent as he is if he didn't fudge his age. People glorified Misbah for being able to bat for 100 balls in ODI games and making 65 runs at the age of 40, but Ifti, who is probably in the mid 40s and can bat much faster and more impactful innings isn't praised as much because of the fake age.

Yes this year they did. Their top buy was Madushanka for something like $90k

Chacha was the most expensive Pakistan at $50k
So, $90,000 was the highest bid. Which was too low. The draft system was better for them.

Draft system esp the American way.l, in auction players do make more money though.
Almost like free market

Players should be paid according to their FMV, I fully support the auction. The PSL Franchises should know how to bid responsibly.
