Australia [288] defeat West Indies [273/9] by 15 runs in ICC World Cup 2019

C'mon stevie by boy.
Do what pak couldn't - score 180
That should be plenty against these guys.
We could have won if we scored 180.
Imam fans - steve smith is what you call a genuine anchor, not your boy!

Bumrah will rattle this Aussie line up, will be interesting to see how Smith plays against the best bowler in the world.

Coulter Nile can bat. Cummins can hang around. All is not lost for Australia. They need to try and face as many balls as possible.

In contrast to Pakistan, these Aussies will somehow get to a competitive total. It just takes a good partnership and they are looking at 230. As we have seen yesterday it’s not easy to chase down even smal targets.

Just look at how Holder has kept attacking with the field.

This World Cup has been entertaining :afridi
Not really yesterdays match was like Sunday league cricketers couldn’t handle pressure both were trying to lose.

Today Windies bowling bodyline... negative tactics are working...

I see a pattern developing. All the potential favorites get bouncy pitch. England gets a flat deck. Basically they pull all the stops to win the world cup. Hope it is all worth it lol It will be hilarious if they lose in the semis.

Oz will cross 105 for sure.. can't let pakistan's record go away. I think it will be the lowest total of this WC

Took 15 balls to get of the mark, this is what you call Test cricket. Brings out true character :holding

At this rate West Indies will aim for a top 2 finish by the end of group stage. What a story that would be :viv

I think Pakistan should play
Fakhar
Imam
Babar
Harris
Hafeez
Sarfaraz
Shadab
Hassan
Aamir
Wahab
Shaheen/Hasnain
They can change the batting positions of Harris and Hafeez depending on the situation. They can also drop a fast bowler in place of Malik if the conditions are dry... please take this info to sarfi and Mickey...

Chasing seems to be the way to go. I don't think teams know what is a good score to set. Whereas when chasing, you can calculate your innings around chasing that score.

Class of Australia is that despite abject failure of top order they will still find a way to get 240+ which can possibly be defended by their bowlers

West Indies well on top. Australia can't even rotate the strike at the moment.

Who knew West Indies would be playing so well, still early stages but glad to see em perform like that.

Australia attack won't be easy to contain on this pitch. West Indies arent brought up on such surfaces. Game is far from over.

When Steve Smith retires his going to be known for 2 things

Cheat
Top 3 greatest batsman ever to play the game.

Decent over for Australia. These 2 need to take the innings deep as possible. Starc and Coulter Nile have the ability to play quick cameos.

WI need to capitalize on this. We know it wont be a 300 chase. A lot rests on Gayle to give them a good start

Please pin this.. Will wait.. 105 will be the lowest score of this WC.. unless the famed Pakistanis oblige us with their amazing batting skills again.

Steven Smith/Carey are doing what Bevan and Stuart Law did against Westindies in 96 world cup semi final in Mohali.

This is the Australian spirit i am talking about. They can be reduced to 80/5 or 90/5. But they stay in, survive the collapse and put up a decent total. Seen it time and again. In 1996 against Windies in semi final, Australia was 19/4 . Stuart law and Bevan resurrected and put together a decent total of 207, Windies was 165/2 while chasing, Australia didn't give up triggered a collapse and bowled them out for 202.

On two other occasions in 2003 world cup their toporder was blown away by England and NZ. They stayed in put together some sort of total and defend it. This is what will seperate WC champion and others.

This world cup is giving every thing, high score thrillers, mid score 1980’s 1990’s type thrillers and low scoring thrillers.

Nobody remembers the lowest score of last WC, forget WC nobody remembers the lowest score of CT17. Obviously you can google but it will show nobody cares for such a tournament stat.

many batsmen got out to stupid shots this world cup, batsmen have forgotten how to survive.

the difficult pitches in this world cup are only seaming and swinging for the first 20 overs, just have to survive them and batting gets easier

Rohit sharma illustrated perfectly. He survived initial scare. Rabada was bowling at 148 kph generating bounce from good length not like short length here. Generating bounce from good length is way harder than the actual bouncers.

Even if Australia lack quality, you can never doubt their character. Having good character can get you far as a cricketer.

Carey is getting better with more game time.

Players take time to develop. You just need to find talented players and then stick with them unless you see no progression at all.

Ego is one reason batsmen succumb to it. Other reason is lack of sruvival technique.

Once he was made vice captain he was always going to get time. He has talent and character. I think he will be in the test team when Paine retires.

Pat Cummins and Starc and Nile can bat, with Smithy in there. Aus can put up 260-265.

Yes looks to be progressing really well. He is one of Australia’s big bash products as he had a pretty mediocre domestic career but BBL allowed him to show his potential.

Time for spin. These guys seem comfortable against pace now. I think they have shown how to play this short stuff as well. See it off and the bad balls will come.

i love how unpredictable every match is, yesterday u thought nz would roll over bangladesh

today, u would think aus be blasted for under 140,

These 2 should try to bat till 40th over. Gives Starc and Coulter Nile a nice platform.

Don't think Russells knees can last in 50 overs and test game. Such a shame. In another system, he would have been challenging the ATGs all rounders.

Well on course. Might even get bigger total.

WI doesn't have a plan B. No yorkers or slower balls occasionally to catch the batsman by surprise

Batting first is always safer option regardless of the conditions. Just weather it out put up a decent total you can defend. This is world cup. Chasing 250 will be like chasing 280.

Thomas and Cotterill are brought up on slow and low surfaces. Braithwaite and Nurse are poor. Not a surprise. Carey and Smith have shown how to deal with this attack. Bit of patience, bad balls will come.
