Australia (474 & 234) hands India (369 & 155) an 184-run defeat in the 4th Test to take a 2-1 lead in the 5-match series

This partnership has destroyed India mentally.

They need to bat out of their skins tomorrow for a draw.

No lol This works in favor of India. Tomorrow cloudy bad light in the afternoon. They are stupidly batting on and on. Look at the ease with which they bat. There is nothing ont he pitch

Australia need to do more damage in 40overs ,otherwise it's draw , 40+ overs after ball old ,totally flat

Like I said India are in total tatters out there.

They are gone mentally, and so are some of their fans here who think this game is in their favour.

This game has swung towards Australia big time.

What a day for the Aussies. India has just thrown the game away.

IND 369
AUS 474 & 228/9 (82) CRR: 2.78
Day 4: Stumps - Australia lead by 333 runs

I think the game has slipped from India's grasp now. At 90 odd for 6, they had a real chance to restrict Australia to around 150 in the second innings. Dropped catches did not help. With a lead of 333 now (still counting..), Australia can now afford to have slips and close-in fielders all day tomorrow. Batting won't be that easy on the 5th day.

Jaiswal got the wrath of Rohit thrice today. His mindsight will be very tentative. He is low on confidence. He has made so many errors in this match. Run out first. THen 3 dropped chances. So i don't expect him to do well.

This last partnership is killer for India. Still 98 overs left - tomorrow, Aussies will bat for an over or two, but key is that they will use the heaviest roller at the start, cracking the top surface. A target around 340 in 93 or so overs means India won’t chase that, but it gives Aussies 35 overs of two new balls.

Unless it rains or if 95+ overs are available, Australia to win this Test, otherwise draw.

Easy as pitch
Nothing in it. Flat as Taylor swifts butt

No excuses. Chase is on.
Eff off if you can't score here.
Lyon plays so easily.

It was smart from Aus here they wanted to have the choice of the roller tommorow a new ball with just a light roller will help Aus big time

All said and done this has to be the most defensive tactic by an Australian team. If it were any other team they would have declared.

This is actually a good point.

Australians will use the roller to their advantage tomorrow morning.

In 2021 Brisbane Test, India had to chase 324 in 98 overs. They had scored 4 runs off 2 overs on Day 4.

Now, this time around the lead for Aus is 334 already. I think they will probably bat 3 overs and try to get to 350 lead and declare.

350 in 93 overs is not likely to be chaseable. Remember in Brisbane Test, Pujara battled for 200 balls and scored 70 runs. He completely grinded out Hazelwood and Cummins. Gill took apart Starc and then Pant took on Lyon and played a masterclass. Ideally, India should go for draw right from the start. KL will hold key, if he gets out early we are going to SCG 2-1 behind.

India should play normally. See off 30 or 40 overs and see how things pan out.

Yep, India had a chance to put real pressure on if they had got Aussies out for 150 or so. The Aussies clearly don't think they can defend these runs (probably still scared from last series) and that's why they didn't declare at any point on day 4.

I don't mind if India loses this one. Rohit leadership has ruined everything. He should have stayed home
Bro, there is no blessing in disguise in any sport. I'm even more sick than you of Rohit and Kohli in our team, but I don't think wishing our team to lose would benefit us.

If India sees off 30 overs ball will become very soft. Then only 60 overs left. Also Starc hsa back issue. He was holding onto his back in the first innings.

Yeah, the game might come down to a combined 40-45 overs.

First new ball: 0-30 overs

Second new ball: 10ish overs at the end

The rest is all about momentum and pressure which will depend on how they do with that first new ball.

If we can't draw this Tests, both Rohit and Kohli should dig a couple of holes and burry themselves.

What is Australia's strategy?
Are they aiming for a draw? Played too slow.
They should have asked India to bat in the last 10 overs.
This is going to be a draw match.

Indian fans not need to worry. This Australia attack is on its last legs. Bar Cummins, and the medium pace nip of Boland, it offers nothing else.

Aussies will just keep batting is they don't think they can win here. So India will need to take that last wicket quickly.

India if they bat in a normal fashion (not in draw mode) can cause Aussie issues on last day

India is not chasing 350 runs on the last day of a test match. Australia made the right decision to continue on and virtually eliminate any chance of india aiming for victory. There are only 2 possible outcomes - Australia wins and Draw. Australia will take the draw over losing.

India's win is out of equation.
Australia can win but starc hasn't been good.
Draw is gonna be the likely result.
Right. Starc has been very ordinary which is a big plus for India but Lyon has done pretty good with the old ball which slightly balances out the equation.
One thing important here is even though the batting becomes comfortable after the ball gets old, if India loses quick wickets early, which is very likely, and get to something like 90-5, playing for survival will be an uphill task and pay cummins is an smart captain who will not let India get comfortable till the end.

Indians really take cricket too seriously.

They have a good day today but still crazy posters want to big up :sachin and want Kohli and Rohit to kill themselves.

Its two way street and Australia will regrets it .now australia most likely to bowl 85-87 overs to india due to over rate and inning break .

Australia wasted 10 overs instead let india bat. They will only bowl 6-7 overs to 2nd new ball where game will be decided .

Those 20-30 runs extra means nothing but australia would have taken two important Wickets had they let india bat

India is happy if this test draw but not true for Australia .they are playing at home and hadn't won any BGT home or away from last 10 year's .

Same mistake australia did in gabba test when they should have declared overnight scored instead batted for too long in 1st innings.

Australia is very scared team right now even they have taken 100+ runs 1st innings leads.

I don’t understand this breakdown by Indian cricket fans. 10-15 overs bowled to India is not hugely advantageous for Australia. If anything, India could have had a great start and put the pressure back on Australia to defend with less total to chase. Mind due, Rohit Sharma is under immense pressure and this may very well be his last fest series. He will do everything he can to propel himself to produce the goodies.

Australia stifle Bumrah blitz to leave India requiring record run chase on final day

India face a record run chase on Monday if they are to win the Boxing Day Test after a thrilling day's play at the MCG on Sunday.

The stage is set for an epic climax to the Boxing Day Test between Australia and India in Melbourne after another action-packed fourth day on Sunday that featured plenty of ebbs and flows.

India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah attempted to single-handedly inspire his side to victory with yet another sensational spell, but Australia fought hard with gritty knocks from Marnus Labuschagne (70) and Pat Cummins (41) to reach 228/9 at stumps on the fourth day.

Australia’s lead now sits at 333, with tailenders Nathan Lyon (41) and Scott Boland (10) to resume on Monday having already put on 55 for the final wicket.

It means India will face a record final day run chase if they are to claim the Test victory and open up a 2-1 series lead, with 332/7 the previous highest successful fourth innings score to win a Test at the MCG from England over Australia back in 1928.

In the last over of Day Four, Jasprit Bumrah thought he taken the final wicket.

India did chase down 328 for victory at the Gabba on their most recent tour Down Under and many of their heroes from that day are in the XI in Melbourne and will fancy their chances of doing similar on an MCG pitch that still appears decent to bat on.

Australia too will be confident, having successfully bowled out India on the final day for just 234 in the fourth innings when they claimed their inaugural ICC World Test Championship Final at The Oval in London last year.

Earlier, Bumrah claimed four wickets in a superb spell of fast bowling as he ripped through the Australian top-order to help bring India back into the contest after they were finally dismissed for 369 in their first innings early in the first session.

Bumrah (4/56) had his revenge on Sam Konstas (8) when he swung one back in between bat and pad to collect middle stump, before Mohammed Siraj (3/66) had the vocal MCG crowd on the edge of their seats when he sent Usman Khawaja (21) packing shortly after as the hosts crawled to 53/2 at lunch.

The real carnage came during the middle session when Steve Smith (13), Travis Head (1), Mitch Marsh (0) and Alex Carey (2) all fell in quick succession as Australia slumped to 91/6, before Labuschagne and Cummins steadied the ship and Lyon and Boland got the hosts through to stumps to leave the stage set for a final day thriller.

On top of bragging rights for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with the series locked at 1-1, the two teams are also in the race for spots in the World Test Championship Final at Lord's in June 2025.

Australia sit in second (58.89% of possible points) and India in third (55.88% of possible points), with table-toppers South Africa (63.33%) currently taking on Pakistan in Centurion.

You are correct.

Lack of declaration against what many claim is a weak India side shows they are rattled

Genius. Who the hell Play attacking cricket when they asked to bat at the end of Day Play .

Watch 1st test When did Bumrah declared in 2nd innings than take two or three Wickets just in 8-10 overs .

1st test India completely dominated the second innings and the decision to declare was a no brainer for Bumrah. Australian batting hasn’t been that strong to counter punch India and it was inevitable they lose the plot while chasing the target.
India will definitely come to bat with an attacking plan and Rohit could play a little Cameo and surprise Australia. India will not draw by defending but by attacking.

Australia are aiming for draw here. No doubt about it they are on the back foot.

Definitely on back foot now. The slow start in the second innings and Bumrah destroying their middle order they saw match slipping out of reach. The only thing they can do now is play safe and secure a draw instead of risking another loss.

Fact that india is yet to lose this series untill the last test inspite of disastrous Captaincy, team selection and batting is only due to one man BUMRAH, labu protected Cummins from strike in bumrah spell ,this tell how scared are Aussies of this guy , if this been another team, they would blasted 300runs in 50overs and would half finished the match today itself

Okay truth is its not that bad for India. Longer the tuk tuk Labu stays...its better for India.

Players like Head or Marsh can take the game away...not Labuschange

:qdkcheeky
Eventually Labu Denied potential win for India. 91/6 AUS was done for, Labu is same guy who held one end in CWC 2023 final

Famous Gabba run chase for India no relevance as Marnus plots MCG plan

The Australian No.3 thinks his side is slightly in front in the Melbourne Test and India's heroics from their most recent series triumph Down Under is irrelevant to what happens at the MCG on Monday.

Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne believes India's memorable fourth innings run chase at the Gabba from 2021 is of little relevance heading into the final day of a gripping Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.

India successfully chased down 328 for a famous victory in Brisbane on their last tour Down Under on their way to clinching the series. They will have to do similar at the MCG on Monday to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and boost their chances of appearing at next year's ICC World Test Championship Final given Australia reached 228/9 at stumps with an overall lead of 333.

And while many of India's heroes from that epic win at the Gabba almost four years ago still remain, Labuschagne thinks the different conditions in Melbourne and the state of the current series bears little resemblance to what it did in 2021.

"That wicket at the Gabba was flat," Labuschagne recalled after his innings of 70 at the MCG on Sunday.

"There were some cracks appearing there for memory, but the wicket itself was really nice.

"I remember that wicket because I think that it (the match) almost started a day early or two days early and it was like a Day 2 wicket on Day 1 and it was quite firm.

"There was a little bit of bounce there as you do get in Brisbane, but it was a nice wicket.

"And we were also in that position in that Test where we had to win the series, so we had to try and set a total.

"Ideally we would have liked to set India more in that game and probably bowl a few less overs, but because we had to win we had to risk it a little bit more."

Just what India's target may be on Monday is yet to be determined, with the Aussies still yet to be dismissed in their second innings. Tailenders Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland put on an unbeaten stand of 51 during the final session to frustrate the tourists and ensure their lead was beyond 300.

Labuschagne revealed Australia had planned to declare during the final session, but Jasprit Bumrah's superb spell that saw the home side lose four wickets in as many overs meant that idea was quickly shelved.

"The perfect outcome for us would have probably looked like having a bowl tonight and putting them under pressure," Labuschagne said.

"But the way the wicket played and the way India bowled and came out and put us under pressure in that first 40 to 50 overs, that wasn't an option for us.

"It became, let's get as many runs as we can and that's obviously creeping into a nice total now, but there was a time there where it could have been 250 or 270 (run lead) or maybe even less there for a bit.

"So I think we navigated that really well and the lower-order deserve a lot of credit, for how they managed that last part."

Yep, India had a chance to put real pressure on if they had got Aussies out for 150 or so. The Aussies clearly don't think they can defend these runs (probably still scared from last series) and that's why they didn't declare at any point on day 4.
And Australia probably know that India will go for a win no matter what in order for them to hv a chance to qualify for WTC finals..

India should do everything it can to draw this test. Don't think winning is possible with the batting lineup we have.
Yashasvi, Rahul, Pant, Washington and Nitish should somehow ensure that India does not get all out tomorrow.
Can't expect anything good from Brainfade Sharma , King Clown and the overrated Puttar. They won't deliver.

You need some bad things happen in order for good things to happen. This guy was responsible for white wash at home. He comes back and joins the team. We are yet to win a test. We are always doing catch up job.

50 runs partnership by tail enders and treating Lyon like a premium batsmen must be one of the highlights of his career. Guy stooping low with every new test.I still wasn't able to get over that he kept long on and long off for jimmy(1 wicket left) when target is 100+ runs in vizag.now the clown did every opposition team's dream job

Same Lyon had a highly attacking field set when CUmmins was batting. Once Cummins was out Rohit started treating him like Travis Head. I don't know what happened between Cummins dismissal and Boland's arrival.

I'm honestly impressed by India how they have developed as a cricket team going *** for tat and consistently winning in Australia. Despite of being a poor third world country, India doesn't seem to lack resources to build a solid cricket team.

He must have learnt senior and set partner is always dangerous 🙃
