Chandimal playing a useless knock
Chandimal playing a useless knock
I'm assuming that Australia would have had Travis Head working on his off spin bowling that's why he is bowling now. We could learn something from them about this. Someone like Babar Azam should he working on his off spin. Because we know modern game is in favour of batters so we could need someone to bowl 4 or 5 overs to cover a bowler who isn't economical.
It was a brilliant innings. He stood tall while all others crumbled around him. 8/227 thanks to some Chandimal tuk-tuk is better than 150 all out.
He is actually playing perfect innings. Check the bowling chart - he is not fool to notice Strac is finished by 45th over. Besides, SRL doesn't need 280 here - if they can scramble another 45 to reach 235, AUS'll struggle big time.
These are finer calculations missing in PAK's ODI game - I would bet that, PAK would have been all-out for 210, in 47'4 overs in identical context.
I remember Misbah's fans saying the same thing. Mendis and chandimal partnership was a big let down and no one took the initiative.
Travis Head has been bowling part timers for SA ever since he became Captain. He's not there to replace Maxwell.
Maxwell well be back when he sorts himself out and Head is getting considered for other roles
What's your hunch, chasing 228? Against 45 overs of spin& the wicket looks a bit dusty.

Bit pointless though since Maxwell offers more as a bowler and arguably as a batsman. Australia are trying to pigeonhole Head into the Maxwell role.
Finch for IND Test Series?
If Smithy falls soon, Aus can face huge trouble then.
Smith was talking about how he struggled vs Hearth and how annoying it was. Seems as though he has corrected this problem and is determined to take Australia to victory. Will definitely go down as Australian great and has a good chance of going down as a atg
Actually no. Herath is someone who would choke you with perfect length-line & in between some absolute unplayable turners. Here Lankans are bowling lots of good balls, but in between giving at least one long hop every over. To their credit Aussies have restrained themselves & hanged on to cash on the loose ones. On top of that, Methews dropped a player who is batting at 60+ average for last couple of years.
At similar context, some other team could have been 6 down, despite being better spin players. ODI game is in your head mostly.
But he is still showing strong mentality to play these balls and put them in the gap. That test series could have really affected him but it hasn't.
Yes a cheap shot at Pakistan there.)
No cheap shot, I just described what happens chasing 225 sort of totals; which gives you at least 250 balls to resist not going for big one, nudge around & wait for the odd balls.
Test is a bit different game on turners with in-field, where you keep 3 catchers, 3 single savers & 3 on line to redist the temptation of lofted shots.
It's clinical chase by Aussies, but they were massively favoured by that drop. I was almost certain that Mathews has dropped the match then & then. Smit is a type of player who hangs on there to finish the match.
Indeed once smith is set he is very difficult to dismiss
Mathews has lost his plot today - why he is bowling to defend 30 in 10 overs with 4 men on line? Respectable defeat, may be.
Matthews is not that good as a captain. Lanka should look at some other person to be captain , need to groom someone.
Not many options actually. They tried with Chandimal, which failed. May be now, Chandi can have a second bite.
They have to , there is no point in going with him, better to try someone else.
