Australia lose Shaun Marsh after Pakistan declared at 400/9, leaving the tourists 538 to chase

Time for Asad Shafiq to capitalize as there is no pressure on the team at moment though couple of wickets down early morning but Pakistan is well ahead.

He has. 8 centuries and 14 fifties in winning cause out of 12 for a talking point at what strike rate does Asad Shafiq is batting 48 to 45

I bet Azhar has a SR of less than 40 in the last couple of years. I can't seem to remember any innings where he has gone at 50 SR. Asad on the other hand would definitely be playing at more than 50. And in every match that Azhar has scored, I can bet there has been another player who has done equally well if not better. Azhar has never been the standout player in the team in any match. Maybe the 300 innings thats it. Can't remember any other.

I can see live averages on the side ( left ) live averages of two batsmen batting and bowling averages of bowlers.

They used to show live averages for all the players in the match under the statistics link. That's what I'm referring to. So for instance, after Azhar's runout, you could go check his current test average.

Is the pitch getting slower? these are really weird pitches, they have not broken at all. The best pitches that I saw in UAE were against England in the Ajmal-Rehman showdown.

We defended 144 there - with ease, that's the kinda pitches I'd like to have. Non-stop action.

May be you don’t either remember 302 chase in Sharjah in 4th innings he scored there 100 as well

That looked close, but DRS seems to think otherwise.

I hope Bilal is looking at the speeds Lyon is bowling at. Will need to bowl on the quicker side.

I also said that there has always been another player who has performed equally well which has meant Azhar has never been the standout player in a match. Ask anyone about that memory of Sharjah's win and most people will talk about Sarfraz and Misbah's aggressive batting rather than Azhar's 100. Also for a guy to have played more than 65 Tests, you'd expect more than 1 or 2 instances where Azhar has been your standout player, no? He has scored runs, but in order to influence matches, he needs to bat at 50 SR at least. And especially when he is batting a5 50+ score.

Babar loving the sweep.

Someone has been working hard behind the scenes...

You can see Labuschagne is getting significantly less turn than Lyon or Holland. It's difficult for wrist spinners to impart more revolutions on the ball than a finger spinner and this is why both Australia's finger spinners are getting appreciable turn.

Pakistan also has two wrist spinners. Bilal Asif while being an offie is partly a wrist spinner as his action shows. Sarfraz should use more of Haris Sohail in the 4th innings. He bowled quite well in the 1st test and extracted more turn than Yasir and Bilal.

Go back to 2012 eng series remove his scores (157 and 68 ) and see what happens to result the last two matches Pakistan loses by quite a distant and also 2010 oval test 92* coming at 5 down only test Pakistan won that series wi test 2017 no one else score 60+ from pak he scored 127 and SL test 2011 no one else score 60+ and he score 100. Its just the pakostani mind set to have someone scapegoat and start criticising for just the sake of criticising I hope he is dropped before the sa series and Pakistan has two found 2 openers in place of Azhar Ali the scapegoat and in place of Hafeez the golden boy

Plan should be to bat till close of play and the have 2 full days to bowl Aussies out.

His average in since 1 Oct 2018 46.5 @ strike rate 43
Asad Shafiq 33 @50 coming to face relatively old ball
younis sr 46.5
mibah sr 44 babar 47
harris 47 sami 38
No one had better average and almost similar strike rates, you have to take in account what others are doing in similar conditions. only one cannot be criticised for the sake of it and for the fun part you lost the bet

Oh God its that dreaded millenial obsession the damned Strike rate..listen bachay loag in test matches a decent strike rate is all thats required. Your average is what counts more. How long you stay on the crease and how long you can bat another team out of the game..Azhar is a class class batsman. He has scored runs everywhere except SA. (everywhere that matters lol)..name me a Pakistani bastman who has hit a double century in australia? (Shoaib Malik's amazing triple hundred at sydney doesnt count)..

Other than Fakhar, none of the roti group playing this match. :))

FYI, Khawaja is still off the field it seems. He won't be able to bat until he is on the field/Australia have batted for the same period of time he was off the pitch.

Not sure why the bowlers are in their whites. Pakistan should easily look to get to 500, maybe 550 even. There are 2 whole days left.

I hope Pakistan aren't looking to declare. Should look to bat till the end of the day at least.

For all the criticism of Sarfaraz's batting (justified imo) he has a better average than even Dhoni in Tests so he hasn't been all that bad

So Asad Shafiq couldn't live up to the expectations and failed again....40s-70s were acceptable during Misbah and Younis time but now its time for Azhar and Shafiq era and totally not acceptable.

I'd bat till stumps and declare overnight. Six sessions is surely enough time to bowl Australia out.

On a side note, I'm also trying to figure out what "the roti group" is.

Looks like another draw

and what make you to think like that?

I was under the impression that Pakistan is going to loose this match when they loose 4 wickets at score of 57 until I wake up the other morning and saw Australia were 7 down for 91. So this match still has potential ... keeping in mind Pakistan has full ability to give goosebumps.

What exactly is this roti group?

There is a special bonding between a few players of the team and they have created a group on Whatsapp which is named as ‘Roti Group.’ It consists of Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Ali, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Nawaz and Usman Shinwari. Zaman and Ashraf revealed that Nawaz is the chief of the group and they plan their outings while chatting in the group itself.

Thanks. I'm sure Inzy will approve of such a group :inzi

Sarfraz hit on the helmet but looks okay. Not a delivery you should be trying to duck.

Need century from 1 of Babar or Sarfraz. That will be a great booster to their confidence.

Confidence is key. If they can do well against Aus on a spinning wicket, they can do it against NZ too.

I recon Babar will be given time to see if he gets to a 100, if he gets out i recon we might see a declaration.

Another 15 overs of batting maybe after Tea should be enough, get Aussies back in espcially with khawjha not been able to open, i guess Shaun Marsh would be pushed up to do that job.

Both teams beyond pathetic just need to look at the run outs today & yesterday.. club cricketers have more awarness.

Looks like our players are in need of more frequent test matches to gain such form.

Just couple of test matches per series and then a break for 4 months feels like putting rust on their skills.

Grind the Aussies into the dirt, get a 600 lead. 2 days left 3 new balls to get 10 wkts.

If they survive, good luck to them.

Babar will hopefully get the 10 runs he needs after tea and we can then start looking at getting these 10 wickets to win the match.

Thought Babar was not cut out for Test Cricket?! proving a lot of haters wrong today. Hope him and Sarfraz get centuries

He has all the ingredients needed.

Hes a poor player of spin bowling in general, also hasnt proven even in FC yet hes capable of scoring big runs all time.

Hes been a let down so far in short test career,
