5:20 Aussies won't bat today any more. Day ends with wicket in next 10 mins.

Australia seems like bowling for the clock so their batsmen dont have to bat today. Pakistan should've gambled and declared to bowl 4-5 overs. this 10-15 runs wont matter much anyway.

P.S. Why is Abbas not playing?

Declaring would be stupid, there are 4 days left and each run counts.

4 days won't matter when Aussies pile the runs on a fresh day 2 pitch. You want to get a couple of overs in at the Aussie openers before the close of play, put them under pressure, especially Joe burns who's been horrible in the practice match, maybe get one out.

Disappointing from the youngster to not hold for Imran's century, let's hope he can make up for it with the ball.

End of a great day, I think both camps are reasonably satisfied. PAK isn't out of game in one innings, Aussies should be relieved after allowing opening pair to carry till lunch. 55-45 may be for the host.

Pakistan cannot afford to expose the tail to the Aussies with the new ball.

Wasim “I reckon” Akram needs to stop talking about himself.

You said no one would come to watch over 13000 people here to watch at the Gabba don’t you think that’s quite a lot of people to come watch a mediocre side like Pakistan

It’s the first test of summer here some people would definitely come to watch...but crowd would be much more of it was India England South Africa and New Zealand...these countries have a decent sized diaspora here.

This is excellent batting from Pak, punched above their weight, really didn't expect them to score this many runs at Gabba.

And you stayed around to watch all three sessions. Who's the loser now ?

So watching a cricket match means you are a loser??? That too watching the funniest and pathetic team Pakistan..you are in trauma man get some rest..it’s okay may be you will something against Zimbabwe

I don't even have to try with you :ifti....Your replies are further proof of what I've written.

Just seen the wickets must admit ..babz was an absolutely disgracefull shot..understandable haris and uncle ifti as they wont even get in my local seconds team

Watching Pakistan play is so much fun. I don’t know why will someone not watch them playing.its like proper amateur cricket where anything can happen

150/200 short of par score batting first. Rizwan plays test innings in 20/20 & 20/20 innings in tests .. clueless

This is a good score if they can restrict Aus to around 300. And that is very much possible.

First Test of the summer, first Test for Smith at home since the 2017-2018 Ashes. The proof lies in the fact that we have been relegated to the two Tests category, officially signaling our status as a small team.

Aussies will wrack up 400-500 on this surface and i can see an inns defeat on it was.

Very poor effort.

Just like in SA we get 1 or 2 decent partnerships and to many wickets lost in clumps.

Back and selecting haris sohail when he was woefully out of form was always asking for trouble.

People still acting surprised?

IMO Aussies should have wrapped it up earlier after Babar got out. They should feel disappointed :yk

You're acting like Pakistan made 140 instead of 240
Don't get too big-headed

Pakistan has already punched above their weight.

Need to restrict the Aussies under 300.

And we have a big chance of winning...

Exactly and the good thing is day 1 is gone and Aussies haven't had a bat. The more we can stretch the game the better our chances I say.

Indeed, we should remember it will be the Aussies who have to bat on a 4th/5th day pitch and not us if we are able to restrict them.

Babar's shot was appalling.

240 seems about a hundred runs short on this surface but I guess we couldn't expect much from this average batting lineup. Perfect first session was wasted.

& you think it will go to 5th day?
it wont even go 4th if aussie decides to bat one inning & score around 550 then it can go to 4th day

These guys lack the killer instinct. So many times decent positions have been squandered.

We have thrown it away after that exemplary first session. Not many sides can recover if their top-order is blown away within a space of 14 runs.

We are atleast 150 runs short in the first innings here.

The equation is simple for both teams. If Australia is still batting at the close of play tomorrow, it is all over for Pakistan.

The point is not taking the fight away from us but the SHOT selection of our players...we know we are in Australia so obviously they would have prepared for the bounce..7 of our batters were out due to away from body and bounce..two were attrocious shots!!

The game will barely make it into day 4 let alone day 5.

Great start wasted. Sadly we keep losing from strong positions.

Only hope is to keep Aus to 250-300 but almost impossible.

Australia will collapse. Our bowling unit is potentially good. I am excited for tomorrow's play.

I do agree i dont rate aussie batting at all apart from warner and smith ...only issue is their tail is good and we have non existent. Problem is if yasir shah can score runs than i assume all of their batters can..

So waking up and seeing the score I don't know what to make. It seems that at one point we looked set for more than 240, and at one point we looked set for a lot less. Tomorrow is a vital day!

for me key is Yasir shah against smith..
if yasir shah gets some rhythm & his mojo going then only i can see some life in this game..
whenever pak has done well in SENA yasir shah is the Man

In recent times Pak has been able to go into good positions as they did in SA as well on few occasions. That is where pressure comes in and Pak struggles when there is actually a chance to do well and something is at stake.

So happened again today. Though from 78/4 I would take 240 as its atleast better than being wrapped up for 150 odd.

We should never have been 94-5 from 75-0 looking at the pitch I believe we left 100-120 runs on it.

The only chance for Pak have is to get Warner and Smith early. That would cover more than the difference of being short on runs.

I think that while Shan and Azhar batted well, Aus was pretty poor with their lengths in the first session. Once they got the lengths right wickets started to come (Yes Babar’s shot was a self inflicted wound), it wasnt as easy to bat as the first session made it look like and Asad I think played really well.

Cummins was saying that there was quite a lot of bounce and balls even from the good length were going way over the stumps to which they adjusted well by bowling more fuller from 2nd session onwards.

Pak bowlers needs to get the fuller length right straight away as they cant afford a poor session with the ball to learn. If the bounce from the fuller length remains intact on the 2nd day and wickets of Warner and Smith are taken early then you never know.

The thing is Naseem and Shaheen to some extend are wild cards we don't know how well they will bowl so can't predict right now for tommorow

SA has proven it time and again that if you keep the lead less than 50, you're pretty much in chance for a victory.
Let's see how our bowlers do. Batters did fairly good considering my expectations.

Only if the prince knew how to bat in tests we would have been in a good position after a strong start

MMHS why do you think pakistan will be relieved here? And 55-45? More like 80-20 to Aus. Aus will probably score 500+, this pitch is an absolute road. I think you are being too optimistic.

That clown Babar threw his wicket away in a crucial moment. He is not cut out for tests.

imam should have been picked. why? I think imam is perfect for test cricket. His style.

rizwan impressed me. unlucky today.

babar had a poor selection for the shot and apparently apart from him we don't have any other player that can give a phainta to the opposition.

Game isn't over.

the young quicks will suprise australia. let's go.
