What's new

Australia vs India | 4th test |Day 4 Adelaide | 27/01/2008

4 sessions left. Australia needs to take a lead and bowl to India.. and then chase that total. Around 130 overs left. Lot of things can happen.

Ishant - India cant afford to overbowl him.

he's THE best quick i've seen from india since a young Java Srinath.

OZ grinding away, 8/553. MJ is the luckiest bloke on the field.

And MJ's luck runs out - out for 13. OZ 9/557. Harby breaks his duck.

India has just 10 batsmen. More than 100 overs to bat and take a substantial lead to feel safe.

Australia has a slight advantage now to snatch a win from here as their lead keeps growing.

aus: 563/10

dont think a result is possible in 100 overs...unless ofcourse india decrlares way too early

theres no way india can win from here.

in 100 overs, they cant set up a safe enough target and bowl aus out....

asad rauf raises the finger, pathan goes lbw to MJ... yea that was plumb.

Tense little period for india this.

Man, these australian comms are too much - they're calling Gilly's shot a selfless shot, one he had to do for the team, etc.

Farewell Gilly. :19:

They like to lay it on, don't they?

Bye Gilly, well played mate

Thats Day 4.

India 45-1 Sehwag 31 & Dravid 11

India lead by 8 runs with 9 wickets remaining.

and match heading for a draw...

It was interesting to see the matter of fact conversation between Irfan and Akram. Akram is asking him about his use of the crease. I think Pathan is learning a lot from Akram about tricks of the trade.. Great to see.

As they say and as we saw in Sydney, India can still snatch defeat from the jaws of a draw.

Pathan opening after his long bowling spell was rather silly.

i have this feeling that there might still be a result in this match...and it might be an aussie win courtesy hogg.

First session, If Aussies pick up 4 wickets, India will be in trouble...Aussies have played real sensible cricket in this test match, barring Gilly who I thought got carried away by his retirement

if sehwag n co. can fire tomorrow in the first session and give aus a target of around 250 odd to chose in around 50 overs, then we might have a match on our hands if the pitch turns for kumble n bhajji, else it'll just be a massacre lol

Possibly;
Ganguly is Hogg's bunny.
Tendulkar chokes when required and averages 16 against australia in second innings.
Sehwag is just a matter of time.
Dravid can frustrate himself and get out.

I think it comes down to Kumble/Laxman/Dhoni.

Kumble doesn't have the guts to set aussies a target of 250 in 50 overs!!..infact anyone doing that should be clinically insane..

If india does bat well...u could expect kumble declaring at a lead of 300 with 30-35 odd overs and ask aussies to have a go..

But if he does get going..he's unstoppable.. he's already had two reprieves..remember the last time in multan when he had similar reprieves...

Tomo's first session and sehwag would determine the result..

India would have to score @ at least 6rpo for that to happen.

The only way Australia can lose from here is if there is a double collapse- India collapse to set a low target and then Australia fail in their turn. Impossible on the pitch we saw today.

if the pitch crumbles (india get to pick how it gets rolled) then 250 in 50 overs wont be too easy considering indias got practically 4 spinners

Australia get to pick which roller will be used if they have to bat.

For India to set Australia a score of 250 in 50 overs it means that India have to score 240 in the first 40 overs tomorrow. There are only 90 overs tomorrow.

If India are able to score 240 in in 40 overs do you think they will set Australia 250 in 50 overs.

india gets to pick how the pitch is rolled tonight and tomorrow at lunch (if they dont declare before it)

so if it does crumble (not saying it would), but if it does, then aus will have a harder time scoring than india coz india definitely has better spin options

If it is crumbling then India will be lucky to score at 4rpo which means they will be only 120 in front by lunch and 240 by tea.

Australia get to pick which roller at change of innings.

india has more experience on crumbling tracks, so if india struggles to make 200, then aus will struggle to make even 150 imho.

but looking at 4days play, it seems unlikely the pitch will turn into a dustbowl, the only way i see is if the bowlers n batsmen leave lots of footmarks, thats the only way there can be a possible result here.

Its either an Australian win or a draw. India would not know how to play to declare....They cant bat for 45 overs and give Australia 45 overs...They cant go all out as they would fear losing wickets....Secondly a team going all out in test cricket can easily be stopped by bowling a leg stump line..Aus hold the edge....Australia need a couple of quick wickets and the pressure will be on India...

to that happen, first India have to score 250 in 40 overs! then why can't Aussies do it in 50 over? moreover we are short of RP Singh. Kumble too didn't look very healthy today. India might crumble tomorrow leaving them a target of 130-140 runs. we can't expect to emulate Bombay every time.

The game's getting interesting! I feel India needs only 200 runs to be safe, because they'll get it by tea or earlier, and Aus will lose wkts if they try to go for this target on 5th day pitch. we saw how scoring fast was difficult, and with Ponting not likely to play it will be touch and go.

so come on India, come on Viru, get those runs on the board!
