Because he has been a match winner for India in the past.

He has played some brilliant innings before. Even in England odi series.

Dhawan simply isn't good enough as of now. He is as bad as Gambhir was before being dropped.

What's up with all the "hacks" in odis these days ? Hackera, Hackudu, Hackswell, Hackmal

Rain will save the Indians .... Match will be called off !!!!!

well when world top 2 odi team plays then u need little bit f luck too i suppose.....i wud hav prefered chasing in this rain affected match..now dnt knw with the overs reducing regularly wat wud be the safe total or the total india can decide....with world best three batsman of odi are still to bat..raina...dhoni nd kohli...

Not surprised, most of the younger crowd are more interested in slog 20s than the real stuff.

and it wasn't raining during the big bash.
And because big bash tickets are like a quarter of the price

And because the big big bash crowds are in Adelaide and not Sydney anyway

Since, December 2013, Dhawan has played 13 innings in ODIs played in Aus/NZ/SA/England and averages 19.9 with one score of above 40. If one takes into account only ODIs in Aus & NZ he averages 13 with a highest scroe of 32 in 7 innings. Incredible stuff.

t20s in general have bigger crowds than odis.

no idea literally why dhawan nd raydu are playing......murli vijay nd der are other optns too but dnt knw wat dhoni want to prove..

Behardien is not a hack, what he is I don't know but he does not belong on a cricket field.

He will cost SA big time in the WC and I'm positive he'll start every game. And what do you think about his bowling? Ball barely gets to pitch and Windies still gave him 2-3 wickets. Another reason for him to start every game. All other teams rejoice. :))

Rayudu performed good enough in England and in the series against the Windies to at least warrant a selection, even though everyone can see he will fail in Aus/NZ. Dhawan has a big enough sample size in Aus/NZ for everyone to know he shouldn't be anywhere near the team. Even Hafeez is better in these conditions.

Hackerdien will not get more than two games (against minnows) in the world cup.

He is afflicted with Hackitis.

It's written in the stars, mate. If he doesn't play against the big boys, he'll get the chance to play in the QF/SF when a middle-order batsman will get injured. I can see it now. :))

Would Sehwag and yuvraj have performed better than Dhawan & Rayadu?

I still think Dhawan will come good against Pakistan and other minnows. Rayadu looks out of place when Rohit returns.

If rohit is opening, you need an attacking batsman at the other end. Rohit is a slow starter. If at the other end Rahane is there as opener, India will be 28/0 after 10 overs.

If Dhawan opens with rohit, india can be 50/0 or 28/1.

Meanwhile adelaide is sunny

Going to defend this CA decision [MENTION=732]Gilly[/MENTION] ?

It's funny because it's true.

If this match is washed out from here, India to defeat Poms and then Aus in final. All is well what ends well. You heard it here first.

totally grey skies here in syd
but its more a drizzle than anything where I am (40 min from the stadium)

Dhawan hardly attacks himself on these pitches

I remember game in England,Rahane was outscoring him easily

Hell no, I have always been against scheduling matches on days it is going to rain. But having said that CA gets it right more often than England.

Lols if CA was based in UK, they wouldn't have done any better...

Oh okay. I thought they moved it from Adelaide to SCG for some reason by looking at tweets and cricinfo comments saying its sunny at Adelaide.

Australia's entire summer season has been changed due to WC, normally they would have played a test match in Adelaide on Australia day.

Hackudu at 3? How low indian team will go from here? Hack-one and Hackudu in top 3. Sehwag, yuvi and gauti will be ROFLing seeing these guys playing in world cup. What is pahalwaan Akshar Patel doing in this team? And stuart binny being in the playing XI is the real cherry on top.

Why are people going against Patel som of the sudden? Though he was the next big thing reading posts in the thread on him. As far as his batting is concerned he got an unplayable delivery last match.

Why this game was moved from Adelaide BTW ?

It was.

Australia Day is an Adelaide tradition.

And it's been an ODI match as often as a test match.

Has nothing to do with the world cup- an ODI on the 26th of Jan is irrelevant to the world cup

I never rate people on the basis of IPL performances. He just doesn't look intl. player to me.

So last year they played a ODI in Adelaide on Australia day yeah.

So who should we believe here? The CA man or you?

So last year they played a ODI in Adelaide on Australia day yeah.

They did. Vs England.

A quick query on CI Statsguru shows that in last 10 years, if Aus has played an ODI on 26th Jan, it has been at Adelaide.

The city surrendered Australia Day rights two summers ago - replaced by Sydney's ANZ Stadium, which held a Twenty20 international - when Adelaide Oval was undergoing a redevelopment and was able to accommodate less than 20,000 spectators. However, the venue will in January lose one of the marquee days of international cricket to Sydney again despite having had its $535 million facelift completed, lifting its capacity to more than 50,000.

The match against India at the SCG will form a key part of the Australian team's preparations for the World Cup, to be held in Australia and New Zealand, starting on February 14.

This century

Code:
     Australia Day Match
2000 Australia v India (ODI) Adelaide
2001 Australia v West Indies (ODI) Adelaide
2002 Australia v New Zealand (ODI) Adelaide
2003 No Australia Day Match (Adelaide Oval scheduled for a final on the 27th of Jan)
2004 Australia v Zimbabwe (ODI) Adelaide
2005 Australia v West Indies (ODI) Adelaide
2006 Australia v Sri Lanka (ODI) Adelaide
2007 Australia v England (ODI) Adelaide
2008 Australia v India (Test) Adelaide (first test Boxing Day)
2009 Australia v South Africa (ODI) Adelaide
2010 Australia v Pakistan (ODI) Adelaide
2011 Australia v England (ODI) Adelaide
2012 Australia v India (Test) Adelaide (first test Boxing Day)
2013 No Australia Day Match
2014 Australia v England (ODI) Adelaide
2015 Adelaide v India (ODI) Sydney

The last two times India toured it was a test match- but both of those series started on Boxing Day.

The Australia ODI quite clearly belongs to Adelaide

So in the 15 summers proceeding this one the Adelaide Oval hosted the Australia Day match 14 times and only missed out once because of construction work?

And on 12 of those times it was an ODI match?

Gambhir and Yuvraj are still very important players. Both still have another 2-3 years in them. Big mistake dropping them. India lacking experience.
