After a hard-fought two-wicket defeat in the series opener, Pakistan will aim to bounce back against Australia in the second ODI on November 8th at the Adelaide Oval.

The first ODI at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) saw Australia's skipper Pat Cummins play a crucial role in their nail-biting victory. Chasing 204, the hosts overcame early setbacks, thanks to a solid 85-run partnership between Steve Smith and Josh Inglis.

Pakistan, however, showed resilience and made Australia work hard for their win. The visitors will look to build on this performance and level the series.

Might be an interesting series. Problem for both sides is their batting.

It's really a contest of bowling and finessing which Australia is superior in.

Pakistan needs to step up now with the bat. Only way to win

Australia isn't invincible with this team, they're beatable
Without head australia batting is nothing great but can Pakistan batters post a formidable Score!

Don't forget shaheen and Naseem played crucial innings that was the reason Pakistan posted 200+ runs

Doubtful, with Babar out of form no batter in current team is capable of handling decent pace

I would personally like for Babar to open, he needs maximum time in the powerplay and he was the only one in the top order looking comfortable with the pace and bounce. Rizwan should swap places with Kamran and replace Hasnain with one of the new spinners.

Good game of cricket 1st one.

---------------

Batting is too fragile to achieve anything in Australia

This will be a flat pitch and that will suit Australia.

Expect Rauf to go for 80-100 runs.

That's what I was wondering too.

Pakistan's best chance is when their bowlers get a decent pitch to work with. Otherwise, if it's a batting showdown Australia is going to outbat them.

Don't think aussies are serious about playing pakistan. They have just been toying with pakistan and it's embarrassing.

We would have been all out for less then 150

Either make a proper batting approach or go home.

This is abysmal. It’s like watching Namibia play

Will likely be the same side played due to the narrow loss. Maybe Naseem sat out depending on how bad his injury is.

It's a flat track as per mark Waugh. It's quite difficult to outscore Aussies with such outdated approach from pak.i guess best chance will be in Perth odi , where most of the bgt squad will be rested as per reports.

You cannot be a good team if one gun batsman is missing, Pakistan probably only has one destructive batsman in Fakhar so with him missing they should be wiped out on that conclusion. However, match is played between the two teams that play on the ground, and who ever plays smarter cricket wins as long as one team does not have severe disadvantage like 4 regular players missing suddenly.

And Australia would had won inside 20 overs with only one down, but for Toying.

He's right.

I don't think we will get a chance like this again.
Been hearing this BS for years now. They'll always lose to Australia with this mentality.

'Oh we were short'. Well duh. What did you expect.

Should've died there on the pitch instead of walking back with the embarrassing statements of we were short.

Even at its flattest , you only need about 320 maximum to defend at Adelaide.

These are not Trent Bride/Bristol type modern UK pitches where you can slog your way to 360/370 easily.

That too early season in Australia you may not even need anywhere near that much .

Probably will move forward with the same 11 as the last match unless Naseem does not heal from the injury.

Game 1, Pakistan strategy if any there was fell flat completely in a couple of overs, by luck game got interesting otherwise it was a routine chase.

Back to the drawing board if they had any apart from Salah and Dhikr (which is good).

It's evident we were a bowler short today. Batsmean are inept and clueless some change in personnel req. Still not sold on Rauf he was jumping w/o any reason. The lack of depth in the squad is appalling and speaks out the causalness of selectors. There is no backup opener available other than rookies selected for joyride.

As per bowlers the opening duo has regressed and there was no clear purpose.

Pakistan might get lucky.

Australia will probably choose to rest Cummins or Starc.

u dropped haris rauf? he took 3 wickets today

Why do we have so many non Pakistani supporters pretending to be Pakistani supporters... lol

Anyway, we need someone of Fakhar's calibre to open with Saim.

2ndly, its either Kamran Ghulam or Babar in the same team, not both. No idea who can fill that position?

Rest of the team is fine...

Misbah Tuktuk Defensive tactics needs to stop’ let’s move forward with aggressive cricket. Remember how we batted in Champions trophy vs India! Let’s show that strength. Don’t listen to any Misbah Advices!

If they are so reluctant to play Abdullah, then lets not open with him. Our opening pair should always be Fakhar and Saim. But now that Fakhar is not in squad, even Rizwan would be better than Abdullah as an opener. We should go with this playing XI :

Saim
Rizwan
Babar
Abdullah
Kamran
Salman
Irfan
Jamal
Arafat/Faisal/Naseem
Shaheen
Rauf

This is the best we can get out of the selected squad.

1. Saim Ayub
2. Muhammad Rizwan (C) (wk)
3. Babar Azam
4. Usman Khan
5. Muhammad Irfan Khan
6. Agha Salman Ali
7. Arafat Minhas
8. Aamer Jamal
9. Naseem Shah
10. Shaheen Shah Afridi
11. Haris Rauf

It is so sad that we have no one to replace these pathetic openers. What Saim and Abdullah are doing?? They are making new records for being the worst openers ever.

I would play HaseebUllah instead of Saim.

One thing is certain , forget about Shaheen and Nasim , move on from these two useless trundlers , they're getting slower and slower , just adding some runs in batting to be make some value of themselves, as bowler they are finished. Shameful to bowl at 132-133 pace at fresh and lively MCG wicket.

Yes. Better to try someone else.

Abdullah-Saim partnership is not working.
Yep. We have no other option but to try Haseeb. Saim and Abdullah are gonna touch the new heights of mediocrity if they keep on opening together.

Kamran Ghulam is also another opening option just saying. He's opened in List A before.

Nay. Maybe Rizwan should go and open with Abdullah or saim or Haseeb whatever.
So you want us to score 20 inntue first PP, and then 100 in 40 overs and rizzu then gets out after all the damage is done?

Rizwan is the slowest batsmen in the entire unit strike rate wise atm.

This is Melbourne baby, not Multan
And the next game is in adelaide which is a road pitch.

Adelaide is a bouncy pitch yes however it doesn't have the uneven bounce that often takes batters by surprise in Melbourne.

He cannot be worse than Saim and Abdullah.

Pakistan vs Australia ODI Series

The Pakistan cricket team has arrived in Adelaide from Melbourne. The national squad will practice at Adelaide Oval tomorrow.

I hope Usman khan can play in 2nd odi as some of poster rate him very High due to recent domestic performance .

You know full well that's not what I claimed.

Come on bro, you're not the type to twist people's words.
Rizwan certainly is better than these 2 but we both know that he is not gonna open... We have to bleed our eyes by seeing SAIM ABDULLAH again and again.

Rizwan as an OPENER IN AUSTRALIA, won't be better then those 2.

Firstly Australia has figured rizzu out. Not once did they bowl on the legside towards him or let him utilise his favourite legside hoick shot.

He was gonna get out any second, his innings wasn't a gritty 40, it's a survival type innings that he played meaning he had no clue what he was actually doing.

The new ball would just expose him even more since it would angle away due to seam movement early on.

His best chance is in the middle order as he can play spin and sweep endlessly and the only good thing about adelaide is that it doesn't have uneven bounce which is why rizzu got dismissed by Labu, the ball bounced higher then normal.

Adelaide is a bouncy pitch bit theirs no un even bounce that takes you by surprise.

Zampa, Labu and Maxwell are rizzu's best bet to score, at opening, he'll have to chug it out for 20 overs before the spinners show up, Guarantee he'll be a walking wicket.

It's also why I don't think Kamran ghulam will play well this series. The bounce will get him out.

Australia is too smart to let him exploit spin.

I hope they didnt have any cake cutting celebration from our bowlers after 1st ODI. Pakistan lost due to very bad captaincy and bowling in last 7-10 overs. They did well initially and in the middle but surrounded at the end

It turns out Usman Khan wasnt selected for the ODI squad, in this case put Haseebullah at #4 instead

Squad Update:

Josh Hazlewood is set to make his return for the second ODI against Pakistan in Adelaide on Friday.

After playing in the Sheffield Shield to build up his form, Hazlewood is expected to strengthen Australia's bowling attack for the crucial match.

What a long gap between the two ODIs.

The time is very much appreciated and sufficient for Rizwan fans…I mean Pakistan fans to celebrate and extend the firework displays from last weekend.

Injured again? Can this guy not play 2 matches consecutively?

The whole attack is made of Glass, they don’t work hard in the off season, these guys are products of the cake cutting gen. I bet you both Noman and Sajid are fitter than the quicks which is a strange thing to say. Pak bowlers are done and dusted for the series after just one game. I think maybe Hasnain is a bit fresh because he has been working out behind the scenes.

No chance for our batters now. Would be an epic collapse and this time bowlers will not be able to score bulks of runs

Inshallah Babar & Rizwan will end the career of Hazelwood.
