Australia vs Pakistan | 2nd ODI | Adelaide | November 08 | Pre-Match Discussion

Hazlewood is like Undertaker at Wrestlemania for these Pakistani jobber batsmen.

Many of them stepped up

All of them fell
Rizwan will be roman reigns and Babar will be brock lesnar.

Tab Undertaker kya Karei ga?

@Ab Fan is that’s what’s going to happen?
Why so afraid of Hazelwood? He plays some games, takes rest, plays some and then again takes rest. Starc and Cummins both play more games, bowl faster than him during their prime, played a lot more in Asia and Starc has way more ODI wickets than Hazelwood.

Undertaker would be either Smith of past or Cummins. For India, it can be Head.

Don’t ask me. Ask Pakistan batters. I’m not the one who’s afraid of Hazlewood

The whole attack is made of Glass, they don’t work hard in the off season, these guys are products of the cake cutting gen. I bet you both Noman and Sajid are fitter than the quicks which is a strange thing to say. Pak bowlers are done and dusted for the series after just one game. I think maybe Hasnain is a bit fresh because he has been working out behind the scenes.
I agree - both Noman and Sajid have more testosterone than the fast bowling nancies

Pakistan batters on their day can make any bowler look extraordinary.

But Hazelwood never toured UAE to play Pakistan and played only one test in Pakistan so maybe he is the one afraid of Babar and co. :inti

It's absolute madness to not play nouman and debut him at 36?

The dude has 406 fc wickets? I wish SNGPL would just die off.

Rubbish players like zahid, rizwan, chacha, Abrar, Abdullah all come from that circus.

Seriously I can't recall a single player from SNGPL that's ever been good. Literally none.

Saud Shakeel is the only one I can think off but he only joined sngpl recently and I don't think he'll play for sngpl now that he's an international player.

Shukar, Koi to Bach gya

We are all afraid of Babar and his kick the ball on your behind punishment, this is why his batting averages are glorified 5x per day.

Matt Short in an interaction with reporters said following before the 2nd ODI against Pakistan:

"The coaching staff give us both the licence just to be free,"

"I think batting with Travis Head as well, if he goes then I sort of let him go and do my thing and it's probably similar with Jake"

"It probably didn't quite come off last night but if he's seeing them well and hitting them well then I'll just let him do his thing and probably not say too much to him, just let him go and just focus on myself.

"The more important thing in a partnership is if he's struggling a bit and he's trying to work through whatever we're faced with, if there's any issues or whatnot"

"I obviously wasn't out there long enough (last night) to help him through that."

"But it's really exciting to bat with him and guys like Trav Head as well, it's nice just to watch from the other end."

"I came into this series with high aspirations to try and cement my spot in the team and (had) a bit of a shaky start,"

"But I'm not going to go into my shell or anything like that, just going out there and keep trying to be positive and play aggressive cricket."

"What I've done in the last couple of years has been working pretty well."

"I'll stick to my game and go out there with confidence"

Ian Healy lambasted on Australian batters owing to their dismal performance in the first ODI against Pakistan:

“We have a lot to learn, We’re gearing up for the Champions Trophy, so there aren’t many opportunities left before a final team has to be selected."

“We should be playing these games properly, but they’re treating it like a schoolyard. It wasn’t good enough. We won, but just barely, with 17 overs to spare. Gone is the ability to just knock it around. Josh Inglis and Steve Smith had to slow things down, and even they got out playing false shots. Our shot selection was poor, and Matt Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk played like schoolyard bullies."

“The disregard for conditions was unacceptable. The bowlers, including Mitch Starc, said during the innings break that the pitch was two-paced and uneven in bounce. So what do we do? We try to slog the Pakistani bowlers all over the place. The batters didn’t learn anything from what the bowlers told them; they didn’t respect the opposition enough,"

“When Pakistan’s bowlers got on a roll, they were hard to stop. The Australian boys’ egos couldn’t be set aside for even half an hour. Inglis and Smith showed restraint, and then Pat Cummins had to as well.”

Correct assessment

Australia were not taking Pakistan seriously and it nearly cost them.

Australia never takes pakistan seriously. If you wanna what aussies think about pak cricket, they haven't viewed them as a proper cricketing nation for a while.

Theirs alot of anger towards how pakistan prepared their test pitches and aussies view test as a sacred format. Ever since ramiz raja entered, Australia just doesn't take pakistan or any of their pr hype machines seriously.

Ramiz raja is to really blame here.

Before 2019, Australia always viewed pakistan as a team that weak but can upset you on a given day. That's not the case anymore.

The sad thing is, Australia took 2010 pakistan seriously and were angry that they fixed. We've now reached a point that if pakistan were to try this again, aussies wouldn't care. Icc would issue bans, but aussies really wouldn't even give pakistan a media mention.

Cummins using 8 bowlers to bowl Pakistan out. Even Labushange had a bowl for the sake of it.

Pakistan desperately using 4 bowlers only

I'm curious to see how rizzu was gonna utilise Agha and saim to bowl lol.

He's lucky Australia finished it in 30.

Also will rizwan repeat the same trend as Bobby? Aka we will play with the same team until everyone gets injured?

I can only see Jamal replacing Naseem for the 2nd odi

Please get rid of Abudllah useless Shaffique. I would rather have Sharjeel Khan instead of him. Why was Imam dropped from the ODI's ?

Yes. Better to try someone else.

Abdullah-Saim partnership is not working.
Fakhar and Imam was going great.. just after bad Asia cup and CWC they dump both of them...

Understandable that they brought Shafique during the CWC and he performed well, now seems he forgot how to bat...

It is stupid discard both Fakhar and Imam who were like mainstays of opening partnerships for the last 5 yrs..

Saim seems to be another short mental midget... His fielding is good but his main job is to bat which he continues to fail at intl level after so many games in favourable conditions...

Please get rid of Abudllah useless Shaffique. I would rather have Sharjeel Khan instead of him. Why was Imam dropped from the ODI's ?
When Imam was playing , ppl demanded for him to be dropped because he plays slowly... The point is he scores runs at a decent SR for an opener, it is very costly to drop someone like him for a team like Pak... He has a good record as an opener compared to many in the intl level... Good batting avg with a decent strike rate

Opener with 9 centuries and 20 fifities with an avg close to 50 at a SR of 83 dropped.. for some rookie like Saim Ayub who is yet to score a 50 in T20Is... with an avg of 15 in T20 and 27 in Tests is chosen ahead of Imam and Fakhar ... Only in Pak this happens... :inzi2

Yes the mighty sharjeel khan who i have noticed is still playing in current domestic season has highest score of 9 in 9 innings so far please bring him at once.!!!

But according to @mominsaigol he should be selected based on his performances 2 years ago and we should ignore his current performances while for others their current performances matter not historic.

Pakistan cup was 2 years ago? Wow didn't know you can't count.

Anyway, any Tom dick and Harry is > Saim Ayub and Abdullah shafique.

I already told you to post your 11 or stop bothering me. Ik you're waiting for the aussie series to conclude or some moron to score a 100 so you can flaunt it at me, so when that happens I'll still be waiting. 🫠.

Either post your picks. Or stick with the current rubbish we have. It's absolute madness to take a player with less then 8 List A games and make him a priemere opener for a world cup. Similarly it's utter madness to persist with a player who's been a loser in t20 and is making a career out of scoring useless 170 ball 50's to 70's in tests and hoping no one notices his 2nd innings gand.

The poster said sharjeel highest score is 9 in 9 innings and you want him in the team based on last year performance. What sort of logic is that? And why doesn't it apply to other players?

He's talking about QEA which is test and sharjeel hasn't played 9 games yet lol.

Neither you nor he have done much research.

If you're going to spite me atleast use Google search fam.

It's your bestie in this situation

As I said according to the poster never said they were confirmed. Secondly there is clearly hyrpoicy in your views according to you rizwan should have been dropped because he didn't perform in the champions cup and now a u turn in regards to sharjeel.

There are a few liabilities in the team, such as Abdullah Shafique, Saim Ayub, Kamran Ghulam (ODIs), Babar Azam (out of form) and Mohammad Hasnain (not an international cricket product).

So with these liabilities, I'm not sure how we are aiming to come back. My gut feeling is that Australia has done their homework against Haris Rauf and an expensive spell is loading for him in the 2nd ODI.

The reason I picked sharjeel and fakhar as an opening duo is because their an attacking duo which is the only way to tackle aus.

Aus is utilising short and jfm and 90% of tue time, these 2 will be back in the hut and will leave aus at 10-2.

Australia is utilising them due to PP exploits only, aka 1-10 over bashing and hoping these 2 cone good.

The only issue with fakhar and sharjeel compared to jfm and short is the age factor. They ain't young, and their just as inconsistent but if they do come good, then those 1-10 overs are detrimental for PK. Something Abdullah and saim won't provide in their lifetimes.

Abdullah and saim are walking wickets. That's a fact, And unlike the rest (Sharjeel, JFM, Short, Fakhar) they don't offer the added incentive of playing attacking cricket either.

Rizwan on the other hand is a slow as molasses, Selfish toothpick of a fraud. It doesn't matter if he performs or not. Rizzu can hold onto his 131 ans 68 against India and Sri lanka for the rest of his life of he wishes to, It doesn't change the fact that he's one of the biggest botchers and most frustrating batters I've ever seen.

The only other pair you've suggested is Babar and Fakhar as an opening duo.

The only other options are taking middle order batters like saud or Babar as opening partners with Fakhar. That could work, but it also exposes the middle order. For example you put saim at 3 and fakhar and Babar at opening.

So congrats, Given how inconsistent fakhar is, and how useless saim is, Your results will still be 10-2 with babar likely being dismissed at 20-35 and leaving pakistan at 50 to 60 for 3 or 4.

Results are still the same.

Cricket isn't always just about stats and avg that you lot hold onto. Try to understand another person's perspective, Besides stats are meaningless in this day and age due to curated test pitches and 2 new balls in wb. Now every Tom dick and Harry can avg whatever.

Inglis named white-ball captain against Pakistan

Wicketkeeper will lead Australia in third ODI and subsequent T20s as Aussie Test stars prioritise Border-Gavaskar preparations

Josh Inglis has been named Australia's captain for the upcoming T20I Series against Pakistan and will also lead the ODI outfit in the final match of the current campaign in Perth as Test players step up their preparation for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Inglis will take over the ODI leadership from Test skipper Pat Cummins who, along with Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith, will miss the final 50-over game against Pakistan at Perth Stadium to finalise their Test program.

Pace bowlers Spencer Johnson and Xavier Bartlett have been added to the ODI squad as well as keeper-batter Josh Phillipe while another quick, Lance Morris, became part of the squad for the series opener in Melbourne while Hazlewood was on Sheffield Shield duties.

Hazlewood has joined the ODI group in Adelaide ahead of the second game of the three-match series at Adelaide Oval on Friday with Bartlett also part of that squad as travelling reserve.

With Cummins ramping up his Test preparation and Australia's incumbent T20I skipper Mitchell Marsh on paternity leave, Inglis will take over the captaincy in both the 50-over and 20-over formats for the first time.

He will become Australia's 30th one-day international captain since Bill Lawry led the team in the inaugural ODI in 1971, and 14th skipper in T20 internationals since 2005.

The 29-year-old, who was born in England, previously captained against an international outfit in 2022 when he led the Prime Minister's XI in a drawn match against West Indies.

However, he will be supported by teammates with significant playing and leadership experience for the final ODI in Perth on Sunday and the T20I fixtures against Pakistan at Brisbane (November 14), Sydney (November 16) and Hobart (November 18).

Inglis was chosen for the role ahead of long-serving white-ball teammates Adam Zampa and Marcus Stoinis, and recent captains of BBL outfits Glenn Maxwell (Melbourne Stars) and Matt Short (Adelaide Strikers).

"Josh is an integral member of the ODI and T20I teams and a highly respected player on and off the field," national selection panel chair George Bailey said in announcing the changes today.

"He has led Australia A previously and will bring strong tactical nous and a positive approach to the role.

"Josh will receive great support from the likes of Matt Short and Adam Zampa, along with senior players including Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis."

Good game of cricket 1st one.

Saim
Babar
KG
Rizwan
Agha
Irfan
Ararat
SSA
Naseem
Rauf
Hasnain
---------------

Batting is too fragile to achieve anything in Australia
Why pick Hasnain again for 2nd Odi ? Did you watch the game? He should be deported back to Pakistan. Should tell him to stay in domestic cricket

As per reports:

As the Pakistan cricket team gears up for the second ODI against Australia in Adelaide on November 8, Naseem Shah’s full participation in the practice session on Tuesday, November 6, is a promising sign. It is being said that Naseem has fully recovered from his recent injury and is ready to return to action.

Naseem Shah is declared fit to play in the second ODI, strengthening the tourists’ bowling arsenal as they look to level the ODI series in Adelaide.

The Pakistan cricket team management, including captain Mohammad Rizwan, coach Jason Gillespie, and selector Asad Shafiq, will finalize their lineup for the second ODI after tomorrow’s practice, as they are currently assessing the Adelaide pitch conditions before settling on the playing XI.

i think they should drop Nasim, can't risk it for champions trophy, even though he was our best batsman :)
Just play Amir Jamal. We are not going to win against Aus in Aus anyway, as their batting will fire hard this time, so at least keep your best players fit for champions trophy, south africa series, etc.

Adelaide wicket is a bit on the slower side which will favor Pakistani bowlers i think they should include a spinner to maintain balance .. all pace attack won’t work on this pitch.

Wonder if we'll see Hasnain & Ghulam dropped for Jamal & Minhas. You still get batting length and gives you plenty of bowling options to match up accordingly.
