Amla looking very edgy! almost out to two stupid shots.

Smart choice by the #. No point in risking his wicket to get his century today. Kallis is a party-pooper though! :yk

I don't think he'll get much sleep tonight lol.

Lead of 292 with 8 wkts in the bank. Brilliant stuff. What a day of Test cricket. Cmoon SA don't let this one get away!

don't worry Australia don't have a du plessis unless Hastings shows his other side.:razzaq

Great innings from Amla, with the Test, series and number 1 ranking on the line.

He stepped up and took it all away from us with one devastating session of batting.

Barring a miracle we are beaten here, we can't bat out a draw, no chance.

his series is like Ali v Foreman, SA taken all the blows barely surviving the assault and wearing the opponents down, now the time for Knock out!"

Even if you made a batting lineup of the best batsmen from the 2 sides to save the match in the 4th innings I would bet against it. S.A. will probably set around 500 plus and give the aussies over 5 sessions.

Lead of 292 needs to be extend to 400+ tomorrow by S.A

292/2 on day 2 . Will Africa bat for say 80 overs & declare setting a target of say 540 & what do you make of this pitch now ?

With a lead of 500, there will be Atleast 7 sessions left in the match, not 5.

Think they'll aim for 600+ and leave the Aussies with 5 sessions to chase it.

I say another quick 150 to 200 max if SA bats can make it and then declare. So that would probably be around Tea time tomorrow. That will give SA around 200 overs to bowl out Aus barring interruptions.

600 + sounds really defensive .Why risk a test win by giving them a chance to draw the game ?

Too much time left in the game. Anything less and they risk a loss, and their ranking. Two days to get 600 is a fair challenge, especially since batting is expected to get easier.

Highest 4th innings total at the WACA is 414/4 (that epic win by SA in 08). The second highest is 381/7 (Aus v NZ 01). Highest 2nd outing total is 528/8 dec in the 3rd innings (Aus v SA 05) off around 150 overs. Maybe around 550 if SA can do it will be the way to go. That will give around 190 overs to bowl out Aus. That should be plenty.

AT this moment Australia needs rain not specialist bastmen.....sounds more like Pakistani team right now....lol

I don't think batting will be all that easy tomorrow morning. I think getting to around a 300 lead today is a huuuuuuuge plus. Not only that will give SA bats more confidence to go out there and play their shots tomorrow but it will really play in the minds of the Aussie bowlers tonight and demoralise them for tomorrow.

SA needs to bat the whole day tomorrow and declare whstever the target. They'll need 2 days to bowl out AUS

A bit off topic, Robin Peterson actually bowled quite well. Put the ball in the right areas and got some turn. Handy contribution with the bat as well.

Yeah he did really well after a shaky start with the ball. With the bat he did a brilliant job. Stole the momentum from the Aussie bowlers and got SA going again. Priceless momentum shift.

in my view bat till tea and then declare with a lead around 500-550... if they take 2 or 3 Australian wickets before end of play, they won't be having any problem in dismissing them on next day..

i know you must be wanting to stay grounded.... but chasing 600 in the last innings is not realistic in any circumstance.

The game is SA unless Clarke, Ponting and Hussey all have a spectacular game and it becomes a ponting fairytale ending.

You do understand we have five bowlers who average under 30 in Test cricket out injured?

Yes, perhaps we should hold a virtual Ashes with injured players.

Maybe retired players too.

And even dead ones. Then you can pick Bradman!

^^ Haha nice one Rob.

Oh yeah, Amla, whadda player.

Hopefully SA don't decide to bat all day tomorrow. They should play their shots like they did today and declare with 500-550 max lead on the board if they don't get all out (just before Tea if possible or a bit after Tea). Looks like the wicket has flattened out a fair bit. It would be good to have more than 2 days to bowl out Aus me thinks.

the speed in which they are scoring runs . .. i think by tea 300 runs will be added ... and its enough

Is Dean Elgar a batsman or an all rounder? Saw him turn his arm over in England. Didn't look too special with the ball.

Its good to see the positive intent and played with aggressiveness ... its unbelieveable

but still they can bat whole day tomorrow ... its still day 3 tomorrow .. isnt it ??

Good come back , LOL

South Africa look set to ruin Ponting's farewell test

Lol. I won't be bothered to quote that Saffer but there is nothing troll like about the fact that it is pretty sad to see that SA are winning the series in spite of being properly dominated, saved on both occasions by some :misbah inspired tuk tuk on the 5th day of both tests. You could praise their resolve and grit but it doesn't give a good reading. Australians must be proper pissed though, they had the gun to the head put didn't manage to pull the trigger.

Random Aussie

It was despicable not to win from the position you were in, in the second test regardless of the condition of the pitch and other factors. I don't think it is hard or OTT criticism.
