Well, we arent going to lose by more than 400 runs. Congrats to the Saffer supporters, Jo Don and Keith and JAF. Should be very proud of your team tonight.

As for our team *gets shotgun*

Thanx RA!

Must be a tough one? Aus were in front for the 1st 2 tests and session 1 & 2 of the 3rd test.

You threw everything at us. We absorbed and played out for draws.

You had us on the ropes on day 1 (session 1/2) of 3rd test. We responded and put the pressure back onto your team. You wilted.

This is a very special Saffer side my friend, a very very good side. TBH I was worried about this tour, more so than the English tour.

I think changing almost the entire bowling unit did not help at all. It was a negative move and the Saffers capitalised.

In my opinion Faf should get the player of the series. Tough on Clark, but Faf's impact on this series has been immense.

South Africa deserve to take the series, Aussies have potential though.
A new fitness programme for current and future fast bowlers would be a start.

Crazy stuff!

I heard that at school (aus) the bowlers may not bowl more than 10 overs! Insanity!! How the heck are the bowlers going to get their bodies in shape to take the rigours of fast bowling? Fast bowling is after-all about running is it it not?

Something needs to change.

Can Faf get the last wicket here. That would be fitting.

Apparently the 2nd fastest 50 for Aus that lol

Thats correct, and would seem to be the reason Cummins, Hazelwood, Starc and Pattinson cant stay on the park. Its been a total disaster.

We didnt have much choice with the bowling attack here, due to the injury issue but we should have played Siddle. Even dead, he would have bowled better than this lot.

Not sure what we do for the Ashes, we might need to take 10 quicks :))

Starc has been a ray of hope here, he hasnt given up even after taking a beating. Now he has nine wickets and 60* so far. Well done mate.

I would have 4 Siddle's in my team. He puts everything on the line.

I would have played Siddle in this test and left out Hilfy (Starc in).

The selectors committed suicide by picking a complete new bowling unit.

Epic 10th wicket partnership here, ey.

The really irritating thing about this is that it is supposed to rain all day tomorrow. A bit more application from the top order and we might have escaped.

:4 for Starc

Another run and he would be the top scorer for Aus in this Test :yk

Kallis and Smith daydreaming in the slips

Thinking about back to back test series victories against Aus in Aus! Now, how many sides can say that?

Perhaps also thinking about having played 10 (?) tests away from home this year and not having lost any?

Thats it, Steyn gets Lyon, 309 run win and back to back series wins in Australia for South Africa.

Congratulations to South Africa, they belted us here.

Feel a bit sorry for Ponting though. Deserved a better sendoff.

Take a bow, South Africa. The first team to win back-to-back series in Australia since the great West Indies side in 88-89 and 92-93

Although losing a few at home SA has not lost an away Test series since 2006 in SL. Amazing stuff.

Destiny my friend.

Congrats SA. Well played.

@OZ:- Clarke's captaincy has been put under the scanner by the SA. He has looked clueless at times. Bowler's fitness needs to be assessed well. Time to introspect.

"It was an amazing gesture by Graeme and the team, thank you for that." - Ricky Ponting on the guard of honour

Sad to see Ricky go this way, he is and always will be my favourite batsman.

What a victory for South Africa though. They were below par in the first 2 tests but hung on, especially in the 2nd test where Faf Du Plessis probably had the greatest Test match debut ever as a batsman. Amla, De Villiers and Steyn delivered when it mattered, which is why they are quality players. South Africa deservedly the No. 1 Test match side.

Amla asking Ricky for a hug when the teams were shaking hands was funny/nice to see.

Hashim Amla is the Man of the Match

Michael Clarke is the Man of the Series

"They are the number one team in the world and have shown throughout this series why they are" - Michael Clarke on South Africa

Congrats to Proteas on a superb test & series victory. Thank you Ricky Ponting for your service to the game we all love

That's it then.....End of an era.

Good news for Australia is that they still have some basis for looking up. Skillwise they are covered. But I cant understand why a team that prides on it's fitness and fast bowling can have so many bowlers breaking up. They should have that part down to a T by now. Just read that point about school time cricket, but that is galaxies away from first class!!! Plenty of time for bowlers to ease into the new routine. It might be that Cummins/Pattinson etc etc have been fast forwarded into the national side before being conditioned properly by State level.

Maybe a thought.....it's not just how skillful you are, or how mentally strong you are, but also how conditioned you are to take the rigor of international cricket.

That's why Kallis is such an amazing bloke. All these years of both Batting and Bowling at an amazing level. Brings into perspective the appreciation of folks like Ponting/Tendulkar etc as well. All these years to the game.

Saffers demonstrating again that they are the world's best team.

Well done S.A they didnt play that well in 1st two games but showed a sign of a top side by drawning the game from tough postions. As expected once we saw a wicket with pace and bounce they proved themselves a very tough side to beat.

S.A are still number 1 side, but there bowling needs abit more depth to it and the the extra batsmen spot in the side needs to be looked at.

Australia were very competative and if they can keep there bowlers all fit will still be seen as a top 3 test side.

spinner was only weak link on thier side, now I think Peterson is a decent option

Just woke up and missed the day's play, but it went pretty much like I expected. There's a reason 400+ chases have only happened a handful of times and a 500+ never. It's a huge amount of runs, and a lot of time to bat, all the while under pressure, irrespective of the wicket.

This match was lost on Day 2 firstly when the OZ batting failed to apply themselves and then the bowling fell apart, unable to maintain their consistency. On the plus side our bowling bench strength is pretty decent, just need to develop that consistency and reduce the deviations between a good and a bad performance. Overall the team is on the right track, but lacks that killer punch to put away really good sides. Adelaide will go down as a huge opportunity missed, although injuries affected them in the last couple of days, SA were affected by injury too but their injured player (Kalliszz :28:) was able to deliver for them.

As for the Yarpies, well played. They only needed to dominate one day but that day won them the series. When teams are closely matched, these types of series can swing on days, sessions, moments. They blew the OZ away on Day 2 and that was it pretty much. The batting was under pressure the first couple of Tests but delivered in the 2nd innings of the 3rd, but they will want to have a look at that. Other than that they delivered when they needed to.

Still Australia gave a very tough time to South Africa...They lost the series but played some good cricket....They are in rebuilding phase led by a good captain in Michael Clarke...Things will improve in the future i think...

Chucked a sickie to attend the match and promptly ran into my boss at the ground.

Bit disappointing that Ponting didn't go on but still glad I saw his last innings. Very disappointed with the batting on a tame wicket. Clarke tried to be too clever and got away with himself.

Starc with some support from Hastings and Lyon provided some entertainment. Starc's 50 was the 2nd quickest in Australian history.

Robin Peterson is an annoying rat.
