Turned into a bit of a nailbiter in the end. Great knock from Smithy to just about get us to the line. Faulkner pulverised the Saffer death bowling. Did it all a bowler and batsman short. Building a squad with a bit of depth for the WC now as well.

Maybe not a total flop but the ODI interest is a little bit on the down slide here in general. There are several reasons ODI's are not huge here right now...

t20's have split the fan base who just go to the cricket as a social day out- they used to only have ODI to attend but half them now will just attend t20s or the Big Bash instead- our our national soccer league which is growing fast, played over summer and growing its crowds and audience every year in direct competition to cricket. A definite factor.

Any games just before a WC feel a little bit like warm up games anyway. Without Clarke and Johnson it feels a bit like a second string team as well. This is one of the main factors.

The timing is a bit off- we are used to attending cricket during our long summer break/festive season but it is still too early for that and most people are still focussed on work. CA have devoted a lot of our peak holiday/attendance period to the Big Bash now. Test cricket still holds it's traditional #1 place in the schedule but ODI apart from the WC are third on the rank behind Big Bash shceduling now.
