Wow, looks in brilliant touch.

Azhar has lost weight.... he had a belly in nZ

He, Sarfraz, and Haris are naturally built wide like Pehlwans. All three of them would look fantastic if they got jacked but they need a brain in order to realize that.

Getting jacked won't improve their overall fitness nor is it required in their sport. In fact they would become very brittle, injury prone and their endurance would suffer to, thank god they have a brain of their own and that of specialists in their team. This is cricket not weight lifting bud.

Surely putting on muscle would improve their ball striking? Anyways, I'm Azhar's biggest fan. Lol.

Too much muscle loses flexibility and increases weight affecting match fitness, hence Watson's many injuries and Shoaib being injured most of his later career compared to earlier

An important few months for him coming up. The home season followed by South Africa. If he can hold up one end in South Africa, we will go a long way in winning there. Our legapinner/s needs something to bowl at.

Not saying they shouldn't lift weights at all but they don't need to get jacked or turn into roid monsters, they are not competing in weight lifting competitions nor is Azhar a T20 specialist. He should lower his body fat, improve his strength / conditioning and stamina though, don't need to look like a roid monster that's just for insecure common men, he's a professional sportsman. Am a big fan of his to, I rather he not take bad advice which would hurt his career and rather he listen to the expertise in his set up.

What an honour it must be for him to bat alongside the legendary Tresco, awesome to see the two bat together

Okay, so for them to get rid of their fat and get stronger and more muscular wouldn’t improve their fitness and would make them brittle and injury prone. Wow. I didn’t realise having a belly helps endurance.

Where does it say he shouldn't reduce his body fat or improve his endurance? How many Test batsman do you see who look like WWE wrestlers or body builders ? Maybe common sense is not common at all anymore

Azhar Ali may not turn out to be an ATG but he is much better than people give him credit. Maybe his calm attitude makes them think he is meek or something but anybody who succeeds at the highest level of cricket is not meek.

Azhar Ali dismissed for 23 : caught at leg-slip off the bowling of Harmer

What a pull. Top bat he is our Azhar 👏👍

A bit disappointing that he didn’t get to a hundred, but the good part is that he’s back in form. His performances in this season have probably earned him another gig for next season.

A solid player you should always have in your Test top 3 somewhere, for the others to bat around.

Not sure about playing next season, English Domestic Cricket isn't like that, quite uncommon to see International players become a permanent fixture in any County side.

Fisher to Azhar Ali, OUT,
Azhar Ali c Ballance b Fisher 9 (32m 18b 2x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

Azhar Ali out a little early!

The best opener in the world shutting up his haters.
He is the only man in pak batting lineup capable of playing big innings.
His performance has been good uptil now

I believe Azhar Ali is on the downhill. His batting just hasn't been the same since the retirement of Misbah and Younis Khan. I don't think he will rise up to the expectations of being the senior batsman in the side. The same goes for Asad Shafiq

At least he has got some meanigful game time ahead of a big test period for us. It's been a year since Misbah and Younis retired. We need to beating NZ and Australia in UAE conditions. Azhar Ali will need to perform for us to have a chance.

Pujara didn't have the best stint here either but he has delivered when it has mattered, Azhar Ali did the same in our first Test vs England in challenging early season conditions to get us of to a positive start which was very vital for our batting line up.

We have such small memories, but outside Misbah and Khan; Azhar is our best and most successful / consistent batsman in recent times, it will be a sad day if that run came to an end because quiet frankly I don't have as much faith in others as I do in him. He may not be the most pretty but he will bat for your life and give his all. If we are to do well in the near future, Azhar will need to perform or we will fail; simple as that.

Azhar Ali 1 runs from 16 balls. His team somerset currently 112/8 in reply of Lancashire 99 AO.

Azhar ALi hasn't done bad till now. Infact, he has been quite decent.

How many more matches has he got?

Azhar Ali has been absent since the retirement of Misbah and Younis.

I was actually at Taunton today. The wicket was horrible - both Azhar and Trescothick chopped on. I also watched the game vs Yorkshire via the livestream and he genuinely looked far better balanced at the crease when compared to vs England early summer.

Golden duck for him today.Looks like a horror of a wicket for the batsmen, his team is currently 23/4

Azhar Ali for somerset today - 0(1) - His team 52/6 in response of 78 runs target

His Overall Match figures: 1(16) in First Innings and 0(1) in Second Innings

Stemming from a poor wicket this game produced a thrilling finish. It is rare to find a red ball match that ends in a draw after the conclusion of the 4th innings.

Will be interesting to see what ECB makes of this Taunton pitch though since Somerset had been warned last year. This draw will feel like a loss for them, criminal to lose 2 wickets they way they did when they needed just another run to secure the victory.

Wouldn't worry too much about this performance, the pitch has been criticised and hasn't helped batsmen on either side.

Azhar's had a decent stint otherwise.

Some justice for Azhar's side :)

Cricket Discipline Commission Statement in full:

The Cricket Liaison Officer (CLO) for this match rated the pitch ‘Below Average’ as it demonstrated excessive turn. In accordance with regulations, an investigation was carried out by a second CLO with support from the ECB Pitch Consultant.

The investigation considered the views of the original CLO, the match umpires, home and away team Captain and Coach and the Taunton Head Groundsman. CDC was provided with independent reports by the second CLO and the ECB Pitch Consultant.

The views of the participants, (including the players, the umpires and the CLO) about the performance of the pitch varied. However, CDC considers that the pitch rating given by the original CLO, supported by the second CLO, was correctly rated. It was a Below Average pitch - it had demonstrated excessive turn.

The CDC also considered whether there were any factors relating to the preparation of the pitch that were beyond Somerset CCC’s control and whether they intended to prepare the best quality pitch they could.

All parties agreed that the pitch was under prepared. There were various explanations for this and while the reasons given by Somerset may be regarded as satisfactory, the fact is that they cannot be considered as any more than that.

There were also varying opinions as to how much influence Somerset had in 'ensuring' it was under prepared and how much circumstances had played a part in the pitch’s nature and performance.

The Somerset groundsman stated that he sought to prepare the best possible pitch but heavy rain cost a day of preparation time.

Some of the factors which might indicate intent in the way the pitch was prepared were absent. This is significant. These would include over-aggressive scarification of the ends to accentuate wear, or use of a sand ameliorant dressing to enhance friction / grip. There was no evidence that this had occurred. This lack of evidence means that CDC cannot, on balance, direct ECB to charge Somerset CCC with a breach of regulation. ECB would simply not be able to make the case that action, or inaction by Somerset CCC constituted a breach of the regulation requiring them to seek to prepare the best quality pitch.

Therefore, on the facts, there is no further action that can be taken against Somerset. However, CDC notes Somerset's practice of preparing pitches to assist their spinners. This may be regarded as making use of home advantage, and CDC notes that ECB is keen to support opportunities for all disciplines in the game. However, they must take care that it is in the right degree. They are treading a very fine line.

Somerset CCC’s pitch preparation will continue to be monitored very closely. The club should expect any proven breach of ECB’s pitch regulations in future to result in a points deduction.

Excellent from Azhar Ali as he finishes on 61* for somerset vs surrey

Defiant knock by Azhar against one of the best county bowling attacks. Hope he gets a century tomorrow. These runs are just what he needs ahead of the Australia series.

Azhar Ali has overall been average but to be fair to him the pitches have been really bad for batting. Most of the pitches in English county cricket are green seamers.

He is finished. Should call it a day or at the very least should be dropped by Pakistani selectors unless he miraculously hits form in this county season.
