One of the best days of test cricket seen for a long time.

England winning the toss and batting was a big shock and an even bigger relief for Sarfraz. Pakistan bowled extremely well and very smartly, credit should be given to the bowlers and coaches when 90% of the balls where pitched up in the good length area(first session).

Abbas and Hasan were superb but Amir and Faheem chipped in with very important wickets, arguably England's two best batsmen on the day.

Lords was a picture and for a cricket it was just beautiful to watch this game again.

Magnificent performance. Terrific bowling, no Rahat spraygun or Wahab's short stuff, nice and disciplined and brave bowling, pitching it up throughout with an intent to get wickets. Then solid and calm batting without many blips. Right in the driver seat, have to look to try to bat England out the game tomorrow.

England made a mistake at the toss by choosing to bat first. But you can’t blame them for what happened afterwards. It was was an outstanding bowling performance by Pakistan. England will need a big 2nd innings total to survive.

The seamers bowled the ideal length for the conditions. A big reason why English batsmen made mistakes is because our seamers were disciplined and maintained pressure. We didn't give them any respite whereas before with the likes of Rahat or Wahab you expect one loose delivery per over.

However we now need to get as close to 325-350 as possible as the pitch will ease out under the sunshine expected over the weekend. A lead of 150 minimum is achievable and puts us in the driver's seat.

Only blight on the day is Sarfraz bowling Shadab in these conditions. We picked 4 fast bowlers exactly so they wouldn't get the respite of facing a green spinner on day 1.

One thing that our bowlers could have struggled with the slope, also other worry was getting carried away with the helpful conditions by trying to bowl magic balls but they didnt. The bowls worked in tandem and made batsmen work for runs etc.. also they attacked the stumps and bowled one side of the wicket. Its been a brilliant bowling performance. Its time for batsmen to dig in and try and get a good 1st inns total.

I loved the intent to bowl full despite boundaries. That’s been our historic length, all our greats became great by bowling this length

Yeah they need to bat as long as they can. At least a 100 run lead is needed to stamp authority preferably 150 to feel good

My opinion is that Shadab, Faheem, and Mohammad Nawaz should all be groomed for the test all rounder role. Spinning all rounder for home games and pace all rounder for helpful conditions

I don’t think it will be flat on day 2. Yes we need 350, but that would be an excellent job I feel. 500 is just not possible in 2nd innings on this pitch. As you said 3rd innings would be great for batting and I expect England to score around 400. Means with a 350 lead Pakistan might have to chase around 200. Still a long way to go but as I said I would be pretty happy with 350 and surely we need that much

There is always some movement early on for those who pitch it up. In UAE they can bowl cross seam short of length few overs to make the ball reverse and as soon as it starts going should be back to full length. They might go for runs on this length but that’s how you take wickets
