not sure if JA is trolling or what. AA is indeed a good hardworking player which indeed does make him the best among every other player in the team.

He isn't trolling when England toured UAE in 2012 Anderson said the same thing and Azhar Ali was prolific in that series scoring runs when the team's back was against the wall.

He called him a world class batsmen before our uae series last year. Yet you have armchair experts calling for Azhar to be dropped.

A limited batsman yet the only one in the team who seems to make a conscious effort to overcome his failings.

What is he's saying was true. even when he's not score runs he's hard to dismiss which means he shines off new ball and coming batsman can play bit easy.

Trying to down our Century Man.

Nasser says Anderson is grumpy, he was even grumpy when I was his captain and this is how He is :)

A *****ly comment :)

india will love Azhar to play for them. If you guys don't want him then gift him to us :)

Just one good innings out of 6 ...stop overhyping him he is pretty average

Brother, his career is not finished/close to finishing that you can start comparing him to Younis Khan et al already.

However, the upcoming one year or so will give us a better idea about his abilities.

Brother if you see i compared him after 48 test mark of where younis khan was at the same stage.

Not overall.

And these comparisons begun after he was being touted as Younis Khan's heir and a future pakistani great.

Oval wicket is usually flat. Hope he scores another Ton inshaAllah.

Going forward, Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq and Sami Aslam are all fine batsmen.

So too is Misbah, but he is 42 years old.

You are only two batsmen short of a strong line-up for Australia. But Babar Azam is clearly ready, Salman Butt is an Australian specialist and Mohammad Rizwan is good against pace.

You just need to discard Hafeez and Younis, before they can do any more damage.

Okay that's fair enough brother. Still time for him to improve his stats and performance overseas.

Am sure in reality Jimmy really thinks Shan Masood is pakistans best batsmen.

Easily. Wonderful test batsman. Looked classy in the last game and looking really good here. Hope he scores big

He is a quality Test opener and the best we have had since Saeed Anwar. He is also the best batsman in this lineup, but because of his shortcomings (which are not cancelled out by that of others) explain why he isn't and never will be a top class batsman.

For teams like India, SA, Australia and England, he won't even be a top 2-3 batsman.

Azhar should quit ODIs and focus on Tests. He can play 100 Tests and 8K runs if his fitness permits. He can definitely challenge the centuries tally of Inzamam, Miandad and MoYo, but the lack of impact will always be there because of the way he bats.

If he scores 8K at 45+ he is borderline ATG aka Gooch, boycott, Langer.

Maybe, but the lack of impactful innings will always count against him. Pakistani fans will remember him but the not global fans, because players like him never capture the imagination.

I assume for the sake of his future financial security, he cannot ignore LOIs.

Yes that is a problem. Will never become a franchise T20 player either after his retirement.

However, he will continue to find a place in the PSL teams for sure.

Can reach Alastair Cook level if he delivers noteworthy performance everywhere and avgs 40+ outside Asia with atleast 8k runs.

Isn't today an impactful knock?also that century in the UAE chase vs Sri Lanka was impactful. Century in 2012 vs England where him and Younis had a big partnership. Your underselling his impact.

Temperamentally among the best in the world.

Increasing his name on the global stage with each match. Used to be weak outside asia earlier but has improved much lately and is a good batsman to have on true pitches.

Every time he has gone to bat this tour, I have never had to look at him as being vulnerable. On top of his discipline, his height and his backfoot style of play is really helpful him here.

Anderson has played in all conditions he knows the score

If he says azhar Ali is the best then we have to value him

Excellent innings. People can keep bringing his overseas record to question but he's doing well to prove them wrong with every game. 100 in England and top scorer there. 50 on a really up and down wicket in NZ, 50 in Brisbane opening under lights with Pakistan up against the pump and another excellent knock when everyone is falling around him. I really felt for him in that second session today, he was starting to get going but everytime Younus would be on strike, he would be jumping around for 4-5 balls meaning Azhar was stuck at the other end.

He is our best test batsman.

That is not enough for him to finish as an ATG, and my response was in that context. There is no doubt that he is well on his way to becoming a Pakistan great in Tests and a solid tier-2 contemporary Test batsman. To finish as an ATG, he needs to do a lot, lot more and sadly I don't think he has the talent for it.

Doubt he will finish at an ATG but I think he can be more highly rated than what your making out.

You are either a great for your country or an ATG. There are hardly any players who are in-between.

guy plays 50 tests and we are indulging in intellectual hand wringing whether he will be ab an ATG or not

People are throwing around the word ATG really loosely. ATGs are people Tendulkar, Dravid, Lara, Punter or in terms of openers Gavaskar, Hobbs level. Azhar will never reach that league but he can get to a level of someone like Langer, Haynes or Kirsten who aren't ATGs for various different reasons. It's nothing to be ashamed of being mentioned with greats like them.

If Azhar is ever even mentioned in the same as ATG then the word needs to be redefined. He is like YK a good solid player, he neither has the talent or the flair.

Azhar will fall in the Pakistani great category unless he has an 45 plus average away from home in most countries.

Azhar is really underrated. He is a superb Test player who is now beginning to prove himself outside UAE aswell. He played a sublime knock at Edgbaston. And I was really impressed by the way he negotiated the first session on Day 4 at the GABBA. And again, very important innings today, clearly standing out among the entire batting line-up.

Talent and flair are not necessary requirements to be an ATG Test player. Hardwork and temperament are far more important. Just look at someone like Dravid or even YK.

I was there to see the Edgbaston hundred.

He needs to continue as he is now.
