he was much more deserving than yasir who was utter rubbish in australia

Fully deserved the award. Sad thing is that because we haven't played a lot of Test cricket this year, he also wouldn't be considered for ICC Test Player of the Year.

Seemed like a random gesture to give YS that award

Credit should go to Misbah for YS's failures in Aus.
I loved it when Australian commentators exposed Misbah.

Acc to some reports Azhar Ali hs been given outstanding player award alongwith Sarfaraz but could not recieve it as he was out of the city.....can anyone confirm?

Yes, there are some reports about this.

Either way, Yasir still won the Test POTY over Azhar.

Yasir was terrible in 5 tests downunder, doesnt deserve any reward after those returns

Running through Windies on spinning conditions does not in any way counter those poor performances.

In last year or recent times, who won more matches for Pakistan? Azhar or Yasir?

Azhar Ali was easily the Test Player of the Year.

AVG: 62.30 (11 Matches)

302* vs WI
79 vs WI
91 vs WI

58 vs NZ

71 vs AUS
205* vs AUS
43 vs AUS
71 vs AUS

105 vs WI
127 vs WI

Some absolutely huge innings under pressure.

Azhar should have won. 2016 was the year he became a world class Test Bat.

But were these awards for 2016 and if they were, then why are they giving them when the year is about to finish?

Azhar truly did deserve the award but Yasir was a bigger match winner than Azhar Ali, as even though Azhar played really well we lost most of these matches and his batting didn't proved to be match winning, whereas whenever Yasir performed we won and lost each time he bowled poorly. Hence Yasir's performances were crucial for our victories.

He is our best test bat. His innings though haven't won us matches like Yasir's spells have. Even Azhar's 200 in Sydney couldn't draw/win the test for us.

neither has he lost matches like yasir

yasir is a match winner when the conditions suit him and a match loser when they don't. azhar on the other hand has been a consistent performer in all conditions and it is difficult for a batsman to win tests for his team unless the bowler show up...

Seems like he's been given the Outstanding Player award eventually. A bit of a mess that awards ceremony.

I believe the qualification period is from SEPT 2016 - SEPT 2017.

Yasir has won more games than Azhar in the last 12 months..this is a fact.

I agree. But we didn't win anything in Australia despite Azhar's brilliance...whenever Yasir has been brilliant we've won the game.

as i said batsmen cant win test matches if bowlers don't turn up...

you need 20 wickets to win tests not x number of runs.

limited overs are won by batsmen but tests are won by bowlers and our bowling in australia was pathetic lead by yasir

So I guess it's fair for Yasir to win the award if bowlers only win you tests. Anyone who expected Yasir to be the highest wicket tacker in Australia needs a reality check. He was never going to go be the 'lead' in Australia.

If Azhar Ali would have won, there would have been a thread titled: "Yasir Shah: Not good enough for Test player of the year?"

Yes not sure when this was given out.

Feel bad for him. Bechara Azhar now has to bat for himself and also to protect Shan Masood to give us any decent opening stand.

Shan is a Lanka specialist, should only be selected for series against them. They are weak anyway and this way daddy dearest will be happy that his son was on the big screen. Then drop him harder than Skrillex drops the bass before the tours to SA, Eng, etc.

He should have won this award. 2016 was the year he cemented himself as a world class test batter.
