And what makes you think Hafeez will do anything? He is playing pathetically worse than Azhar atm.. So your solution isn't any better than the current set up..

Hence what should happen will happen after the tournament now.. Unless Hafeez gets injured like in the past and they send an opener as his replacement..

We don't have options given the squad that has been selected unless you want to select Shahzad. If anyone has to go it has to be Hafeez. Remove Azhar and you will be 30/3 in the first 10. Azhar is definitely not the best option for opening but he certainly doesn't deserve to be criticized for everything like he is being. There are 10 other players in the team and a number of them are way worse than Azhar and yet he is the one who is being singled out constantly.
 
That was a lousy shot by Azhar. Such a poor shot after doing all the hard work.

that's the only two shots he has. ugly pull and a late cut. too bad Mathews had a slip this time. How can people defend this tailender?
 
They are nothing but causing issues to the whole team, there are young players on the bench that cna do alot more.

This was an easy win and these jokers once again brought pressure to the whole team.

Can our esteemed mods, who have great connections within the team please pass on PakPassion's unified message to the management or whoever. We need him out of the team. Please. For the love of God. Kick him out of LOIs forever.

malik can stay for a year or so as he has been doing his bits a lot more also, he brings the best out of youngsters, example when he came in against SA, Babar azam also started playing better... so he needs to stay.. hafeez, imad, azhar ali, selfi, wahab really need to go....

So you want to drop 4 of the playing 11? That's a bit of a knee-jerk reaction.

I agree that Hafeez has to be dropped immediately. Quickly followed by Azhar assuming there is a replacement.

Imad hasn't had a brilliant tournament, but has been a pretty consistent performer in his career so far. Let's not go back to the days of players being kicked out after one failure.

Malik has been in very good form since his return and adds some experience to what is a pretty young/inexperienced team. Plus he is one of the few batsmen who has tried to play in touch with the modern game.

You are trying to educate an Afridi and imran nazir loving short temper nation. They hate the guy unless they has some dirt attach to it. They cant bat 50 overs yet blame Misbah, Fawad and Azhar whose averages are double than Afridi and Imran.
 
Azhar - Azhar has a lifeline in my eyes until Sharjeel is back. Otherwise, he is the best opening option we have in Pakistan. His S/R is not up to par, but like I said, we have no better replacements. I don't mind bringing in another opener into the squad to try him out, but Azhar should stay in squad.

Hafeez should be shown the door from the team completely & permanently - he was only valuable till he could still contribute with ball in hand.

Malik will have to do better, but he's a good option still for the #4/#5 position.
 
I think Hafeez and Azhar Ali need to go for Shadab and Haris Sohail for the next game. Play Babar and Fakhar as openers.

I agree Malik also needs to go. He is offering 0 to the team right now and is actually more of a liability then Hafeez. The only reason I will still keep Malik is since he has had a decent 12 months. Mickey needs to tell him though you are the senior batsman and you need to win games for Pakistan or else you are of no use.

From Azhar, Hafeez and Malik, only Hafeez is in need of the chop as he is not bringing anything to the table AND he is keeping out Sohail.

I can't see a case for Malik atm, hes doing fine. Fair enough he failed today but he's not the class of batsmen who will pull it off everytime, nor do I see a viable replacement for him.

As for Azhar, if he has someone like Fakhar to partner him he can do well, he was today until he played a rash shot.

Right now he should not be dropped for the semi final.

If we don't give youngsters the chance then how the heck are suppose to know if they are good enough or not? Sahibzada Farhan was one of the highest run scorer in Pakistan cup, give him a chance.
 
Hafeez in England: 23.31 average, SR 62.39 in 20 innings.

Malik: 13.71, 63.85 in 22 innings (he was at least good in the tour to England last year though).

And Azhar is just terrible in LOI. So these guys struggling shouldn't be much of a surprise to anyone.
 
Hafeez and Malik are the most rubbish players in international cricket. Both are failures of epic proportions.

Im really sorry but our middle order looks shaky more than any combination we had before ..

Mohammad Hafeez
and
Shoaib Malik (Tested failure of all time)

this middle order will never ever let u chase 200+ , they are worst , more than 200 Odis and still they stuck to chase like this today

i donn't know but we cannot stick to these two players anymore if we really even want to qualify for WC 2019

People will defend him. Because he was picked by a certain person also because they want to defend the style of play that was instilled in the team by the very same person. They will instead attack Sarfraz and downplay his acheivements because it highlights the wrong approach that the person instilled in the team. Keep in mind that Azhar was supposed to carry forward that persons approach and legacy come what may

a week ago posters like you were saying Shehzad has to stay too because there is no better option, then came Zaman

There are absolutely better options than the pathetic Azhar- they just need to be given a chance

everyone just needs to admit that he isn't an ODI batsmen, just like Asad Shafiq isn't an ODI batsmen - and move on
 
Malik, Hafeez and Azhar, Shehzad - these all are our issues.

They need to be sent home.

And to think that Azhar Ali was captain for two years and we were told there is no one else to appoint. Sarfaraz has won 5 off the 7 ODIs he has captained in.

Azhar has to be the worst batsman to debut for us in the 2010 decade.

I still think Pakistan should look forward to Farhan, Sami Aslam and Ahsan Ali.

To be successful intent and approach are vital for opening batsmen, Azhar may even have intent but he is too limited and his approach is very questionable most of the times.

Alright, first of all I don't think Shehzad deserves a spot in the squad. Second, I think Azhar is a placeholder, and until we identify another opener, he should continue to open. Once team management will find a new opener, they definitely SHOULD give him a shot and Azhar should make way because his S/R does not belong in this decade.

Azhar should not be kicked out of the squad because unlike other batsmen in the team, he actually scores runs. When was the last time Pakistan played out 50 overs? As the team improves, Azhar should make way. But if you focus on him, dead weights like Shehzad/Hafeez continue to hold a place in the team. One thing at a time, that's all.

Enough said already.

Chasing 211 is fine with the likes of Azhar and Hafeez but anything over 250 and they will be like deer caught in headlights...

Batting first - they will crawl their way to a 200-250 score which is just not good enough on most modern day ODI pitches.

Need to give Haris a game ASAP - yes he is untested in this tournament so far but is a good batsman and could provide a vital X factor over India.

Open with Fakhar and Sarfraz who will both provide a fast start necessary to "out-bat" India.

Have to think out of the box now or otherwise we will face another defeat to India...

We have to remember to think about the big picture and not let a victory cloud our judgement.

Haris is the future of our batting lineup for atleast the next 5 years if he stays fit and continues to perform to his potential.

We will gain nothing by playing Hafeez and Azhar - short term or long term.
 
They won't be going anywhere now even after CT.They just have booked place for an year atleast.Azhar shehzad hafeez these should not be anywhere near the team
 
Don't expect alot of changes for the final. Maybe Rumman making way for Amir. That's about it.
 
I think before Azhar, Shoib Malik has to go. Azhar should be at #3 with Sharjeel and Fakhar opening the inning. You can move him up or down based on the situation. He is the guy to bring stability when wkts are falling around him. They need to groom him into a solid (not explosive) batsman. Middle order needs new guys like Harris Sohail and Babar Azam.
 
Azhar will look okay as long as Zaman fires.

If Zaman fails, Azhar will give you nothing. He'll crawl thru 20 or so balls, then try and slog and get out
 
Pakistan has now good combination of a slogger and a defender as openers. So dropping Azhar wouldn't be right.
 
I would keep Malik. He doesn't even need to bowl and is a vital source of advice for the captain til 2019 WC. If Sharjeel is found not guilty, bring him in. If not, bring Farhan in as we can't have one defensive opener and one aggressive one. Add Haris in for Hafeez and switch between Shadab and Fahim depending on conditions. You've got an arguably top 4 team in ODI right there. Amir, Hasan, Junaid are the backbone of the pace attack with Raees as back up. Babar does not look to have a cricketing brain and has a meek personality therefore he is not suitable for VC yet. I'll stick Malik as VC just in case. Be aware if this team builds up like this in the coming months.

Hafeez bowling gets him into the side despite avg batting. Unless we find another batsman bowler that can tie up an end I don't see Hafeez being removed though Haris did play that role for us in the world cup and was not that bad at it.
