Which inning Will you rate high? Azhar double hundred or Warner hundred.

Rate not only in isolation but compatibility with larger team game plan and impact

Azhar's double hundred. Australia keeps getting whitewashed in Asia and for them to allow even a draw to an Asian side is a big dent in their record, more so to a team which has lost all games in Australia since time immemorial.

Azhar played in unfamiliar conditions and scored a double ton. He will score a triple ton when Aussies visit UAE. Warner had the only familiar conditions he knows and will fail every time he sets his foot in Asia.

Warner's was more entertaining and impactful. The way he struggled early on showed he was a fighter. It told a good story of batsmenship.

Take a bow Warner. You are truly are a number 1 opener.

In isolation, Ali knock was better.

In context of game, Warner's knock was better.

Azhar scored away from home in a place where not many Pakistani batsmen have done well. So I'll go for his innings.

Azhar's knock was much better. If it wasn't for his knock, it wouldn't have mattered if Warner was out on 0 or 100. We would've still lost.

Azhar, no other batsman had any impact on game from Pakistan. Without Azhar, Pakistan would have been in big trouble. It was Inning of determination and patience, mood killer for bowler and opposition.

Azhar scored his runs against bowlers who were actually bowling well most of the times and not serving pies like our bowlers did.

Plus, Warner could have been out if it wasn't for that no-ball.

Azhar first session first day was tough. He did well, derermination excellent.

If he would have accelerated at appropriate time, may be more impacted inning

Pakistan salvaging a draw down under while Aussies keep getting rolled over in UAE showing which team is more dominant of the two.

Australia have won a series in UAE, Pakistan have never won a series in Australia.

Azhar. He faced the better strike bowlers in livelier conditions against better field placing in unfamiliar conditions against unfriendly spectators with not so clued up running partners.

What's up with rating each and every century scored under different circumstances and/or match situation?
Some kind of summer fashion?
The match is not even won nor lost, there's no change in momentum or anything. So what's the point?
Shouldn't we wait until the match takes shape at the very least?

Azhar's quite easily.

He's playing outside of his den and took us from 140/4 to 450 declared.

azhars innings was against a very good bowling attack , starc and hazlewood are very very good bowlers. Our bowling side is full of lulloos. So I rate azhars innings a far better knock.

Why does everything has compared to something else?

Which is the better knock -

Shafiq vs Kohli
Azhar vs Warner
Azhar vs Younis:ibutt

Game is still on. All three results are possible.

Azhar's innings was definitely a better "test" innings since he had to face multiple rain delays, cloudy, overcast conditions and had to duke it out for a long long time.

However, one thing Azhar fan's fail to realize that Azhar's SR is too low to have a meaningful impact on the game. Warner showed it today with his innings, how you can completely turn around a test match if you play at a high SR.

In the context of this test match Warner's innings > Azhar's innings.

Azhar Ali cannot bat like Warner but his innings was very good from a Pakistani perspective.

I think Azhar does what he can despite his limitations. Everybody knows that Azhar doesn't have the ability to play at a strike-rate above (let's say) 75; he might bat above that very few times, but not consistently. This will always be his shortcoming since he doesn't have a lot shots in his arsenal. Yes, his approach is negative at times and can be very annoying and frustrating for the fans, but he has improved it noticeably since the England tour last year.

In this inning, he batted at strike-rate of 56.31, which probably would have been a good strike-rate in any other inning (and it's probably good in this one too), but we obviously can't ignore the overs lost due to rain etc.

Anyway, I still think Azhar is the best we've got in terms of the output. Sami Aslam is obviously a no-hoper, Babar has to improve his temperament, and Shafiq isn't consistent enough. Haris would be a wonderful addition to the side (once he improves his fitness) but they'll probably end up bringing back someone like Fawad Alam.
