Babar Azam’s recent form in Test cricket

Fourth best batsmen in the world atm in Tests.

Third overall - Kohli and Rohit well clear.

Aek hi batsman hai humaray pass.... Allah nazar se bachaye.

I love Babar but he has a way to go yet to get put in that bracket just yet. Maybe I'm scared (being a Pak fan) seeing so many batsmen fade away

Right up there with the best. Definitely better than Root. The only thing KW has on him is longevity but otherwise Babar is better. Better than Smith as well in LOIs.

Warner & Rohit are openers so I wouldn't even have them in the discussion, but Babar is on his way to averaging 50 in all 3 formats, which Warner & Rohit will likely never be able to do. And the scary part is Babar isn't even close to hitting his peak yet. Not to mention he carries his line-up. I'd have him over those two overall, all formats considered.

Babar might actually take that average well above 50. Not trying to jinx at all but I can see it being 55 down the road. He's insane.

Kohli is his competition for the top spot, all 3 formats considered.

Every time he comes out to bat, him scoring a 50 minimum is pretty much a given. Anything otherwise is actually a shock at this point.

The kind of vibes you get from a Kohli or Smith (Tests).

Does he have more tests coming up? Tendulkar at his very best hardly had any test matches to play.

2 vs Bangladesh in January (if they happen)

And then 3 against England starting from the 30th of July

A big gap

He should have got 5 hundreds really, but even so a good effort.

He will end up as Pakistan's greatest batsman ever. He is as stylish as Yousuf, the latter however was the king of impactless soft runs. Babar has already proven that he can perform on the big stage.

He is starting to convert his 50s into 100s, a quality that Inzamam lacked, and his ODI record shows us that, where he has 83 fifties and just about 10 hundreds.

The only one who can challenge Babar as the GOAT Pakistani batsman is Miandad himself, but I back Babar to surpass him by the time he calls it a day.

I want him to win matches though

Tendulkar era laid the foundation of India's superiority over Pakistan. A major reason why Pakistanis are bitter against Tendulkar because when Tendulkar started, Pakistan were strong cricket team. By the time Tendulkar retired, he was regarded as one of the greatest batter of all-time, if not the greatest ever. On other hand, Pakistan were no longer a force to reckon and were living in mediocrity.

Now when Babar has started, India are a very strong top cricket team and while it's unlikely that India will fade away as cricket nation because of the resource and infrastructure, Babar can definitely help Pakistan transform back from a mediocre team to a top team.

As for India, I don't see us getting down in cricket unless some other sport takes over cricket in terms of popularity and fame in the country.

The kid is a Superstar in accomplishing his personal milestones, his recent comment about aiming for 300 tells the story. Yes, he's Pak's best batsman but does he have the ability to win you big matches? I doubt. This is why I always rate players like Saeed Anwar and Fakhar Zaman highly. You can call Fakhar the hack or one game wonder, but he's someone I respect the most in the current Pak players. He won you a big tournament and that's what matters. Babar is just harmless, he is consistent at setting up a decent total for the opposition, but does he have the ability to chase totals and take his team home in crunch situations? How many matches after the WC match vs NZ has Babar helped his team win games? As long as his incredible consistency is not helping his team win games, he will remain a nobody in my books, and I'll continue to admire Fakhars and Anwars. Heck, Anwar's 194 against India still remains fresh in my memories despite passing a decade. That's what impact players/match winners do to you. Babar is not a match-winner yet!

Called him fab 4 in early 2019.

Some trolls and haters who are now admiring him laughed at it.

Tbh The pitches are absolute highways in these two series! Let's see if he can continue this form in England next year!

Thats why home is so important for batsmen , may his good form continues for a long long time. We finally have a batsman who can go on to get scores everywhere around the world.

He is still far from being included in fabs yhough , the fabs habe a lot of 100s and a lot of good years and consistency behind them. Babar needs to perform for 3 more years consistently in test arena to be there.

There will be no fab 4 by the time Babar is 28/29.
Players like Kohli will be past their peak.

Found his feet in Tests. Should have 50 international hundreds by the age of 30

Run machine and he will get better as time goes on.

I still can't believe some people wanted him out after his average test start.

Has mammon come in with his heart feasting on minnows or playing sub par bowlers ??

At least get my name right. Of all the posters on this forum, are you really forgetting how to spell my username?

Babar has the ability to score against any attack anywhere, so why should he be criticized for scoring soft runs and bashing weak attacks?

Every quality player is supposed to fill his boots when he is offered free runs and also score hard runs. Babar is doing both.

However, my worry is that Misbah might try to lower his strike rate in order to help him convert these 100s into 150s and 200s. That would be a terrible mistake. Babar needs to continue to bat at his current, very healthy rate and exert himself on the bowlers.

I would take 120 at a SR of 60 over 200 at a SR of 40 more often than not.

This is should be the output of a senior batsman like shafiq, not a youngster like Babar.

Shame on shafiq and deserves to be ousted from the team.

Best Pakistani batsman I have seen. He is a better batsman than Inzamam, Anwar, Younis Khan and Moyo in my opinion. Though I have never seen Miandad play, but Babar has the potential to be the best batsman ever from Pakistan.

I can say whole PP (Pakistanis/Indians neutrals), everyone is happy for Babar.

Probably the first time ever I am seeing such harmony in here :yk :)

It was about time we had a world class batsman.

YK did the job in Tests but we were completely hopeless in ODIs.

Misbah's say on Babar's batting will be limited as Babar is doing so well.
Babar will eventually got those 150/200's. In this series both times he ran out of time.

And crucial innings like his 60 in the first innings are more important than the hundreds.

Phenomenal batsmen, was only a matter of time before his quality came across in tests.

As he gets closer to test and ODI captaincy - I just hope he captains like he bats; with a plan and with aggression

Even if you count odis as well , we play what 18 20 odis per year. 7 centuries per year is very very tough.

I agree but I think he has found that purple patch that Kohli found and just completely took over. If Pakistan played as many games as India did this would not be a difficult target for him

His test average has now hit the 40s!

Average: 42.68

Him and Shaheen are on a different level to everyone else in the side.

Babar Azam is now entering his peak. The next 2-3 years might be his best years but could easily play for 10-12 years more.

His average will depend a lot upon home games , if we get enough home games every year he will continue to score runs. Without home games it is hard to maintain average of 50.

Surely no one can criticize Babar now. He’s excelling at all three formats of the game now.

Such an inspiration for young Pakistani batsman. Hard work > raw talent

Nah he’s the only player in the world that I see scoring everywhere and scoring at least 50 every innings.

Babar Azam was a raw talent who PCB had taken under their wings when he was just 15.

Babar is where he is today thanks to hard work. There’s a lot of talented youngsters in Pakistan, but lack of hard work and professionalism never lets them reach their potential.

He needs to get a big score now. That should be his next area for improvement.
