He is hiding at the no.6 spot because of his failures at the no.3 spot. But now as he is getting better in test cricket he should creep his way up the order.
Babar has a VERY good opportunity to show that he is a good batsman. Who better to do it against than Sa IN SA?

Agreed.

At no.3 however we Haris Sohail is best suited for that position because he is the best equipped in the batting order to play pace bowling in general when you factor - swing, seam, pace, bounce and etc.

Babar needs to bat ideally at 4, or 5 at least.

Babar was always so much better in LOIs, it's not even funny. No doubt who's the boss there....

Rahul had a better career so far in tests but unfortunately even that is going south for him. Babar has started slow, not he's alright, and he will eventually score everywhere in test matches. He's simply too good to miss out.

With Rahul, he never inspired any confidence and with his beautiful technique, I'm not sure he's going to last long in international circuit... Old Vijay is better than youngsta beauty Rahul. And old Vijay is very very bad

Rahuls current form has been ongoing for 1 year. Even as someone that sees a very strong potential in him, I feel its time to move on. He has lost this competition.

Rahul is opener so he would have first tried to avoid that 20-2 situation! Once he gets settled in the team, he can take the attack and rest of Pakistani batsmen would have easily played secondary role to him (Pakistani batsmen prefer to play at lower strike rate & survive if someone in the other end plays aggressively!) Whereas is Indian team Rahul has a big rival in Kohli from all angles (Ideally Rahul would have preferred to play that lead role! But due to Kohli's presence, he is reduced to secondary role and further it gets reduced due to Shastri/Kohli's favoritism towards Rohit, etc. That's why he seemed so comfortable playing for Punjab IPL team! Hence he would have done wonders had he played for Pakistan!)

But I hate Rahul in spite of this... He should have handled the situation in a more mature/diplomatic way! He would have won Kohli's heart had he somehow come up with actual performances! Cricket is a team's game and there is no room for individual preference! More brilliant individuals means much stronger team (like past Australian, WI teams!) You don't need one man armies and personal glories! India does well because Bumrah, Kuldeep, etc, are equally good as Kohli in their roles!

My point was not about who has played more matches. In an above post you said that babar is better than Rahul because he has higher average. Doesn't that mean that babar is better than Hales and Munro and Lewis since for you average is more important than strike rate?

Forget about Kohl or KL rahul. Do you think that babar is a better t20 batsman than Hales, Munro and Lewis? All of them have lower average but much higher strike rate than babar.

Rahul is ranked higher than babar in 2 formats and it is only a matter of time when Rahul is ahead in all 3 three formats.

Ashwin and Jadeja are ranked higher than babar in test batsman rankings. You should tone down the hype around babar.

Rahul doesn't play for a team that doesn't have any reasonably decent batting options, and will always get a shorter rope due to that. I'd still back him and expect him to be back in the Indian team across formats sooner rather than later.

At the moment he's in a bad slump and needs to work on his game and come back stronger. The long "rope" was earned - how soon people forget his consecutive streak of 50+ scores.

He's a quality bat who tried to modify his batting to be more successful for T20, and his test game has suffered as a result. I still think he's good enough to sort it out and make a comeback. Nobody can predict the future, he's had fitness issues as well, and India's competition for batsmen is beastly, there is no guarantee he can come back. Let's see how it goes.

KL needs to go back to Ranji. Unfortunately, Ranji season will be over soon and he will not get an first class practice. If he is not selected in the ODI team for the WC, he should try county.

Yes but they are both very young, we could be looking at this thread in 5-10 years time and Babar Azam could have faded away completely like some other Pakistani cricketers who looked to have world class potential. I hope this won't be the case, and I don't think it will, but my message is simply that some fans on this thread are getting way too cocky. Yes, at the moment, Babar Azam is clearly a superior batsman to Rahul but none of them have even reached their peak yet so no reason why Rahul can't rediscover his form
