Babar Azam vs other top batsmen in the early stages of their careers

Babar is sure quality. No doubt about that. But these comparisons aren't healthy.

When Raina emerged on the scene, there were similar comparisons with Tendulkar after 'x' number of games. Even Dravid who was his captain made a statement which was twisted out of context to suggest he had said Raina was as good as Sachin.

Very good players become great players across a long career. Right now Babar is potentially a Pakistani great, if not a world great. Kohli faced similar expectations early on, embraced them and later achieved them.

Just let Babar progress normally.

I believe Kohli already hit his peak and in 2-3 years he is gonna decline, Babar can take his place as world no. 1

Only thing that concerns me is that Mickey/Flower have developed him enough mentally and physically where he can continue to improve on his own and come out of tough situations, if we were to get an idiotic coach next.

Babar Azam has entered into the Fab Five of cricket but soon you will see Rishabh Pant there as well. This Pant guy has serious talent and has already scored 2 test centuries in England and Australia. Commentators were also going gaga over him there. I will be surprised if I don't see his name in the top 5 batsman of this era within the next 2 years. :inti

Spot on.

Let him become a Pakistani great first.

Numbers aside, what I find most remarkable about him is his consistency across all formats at such a young age.

Even a young root and kohli were not this consistent and only a young Williamson showed the mental fortitude.

A am just needs to stay focused and stay off this site.

To be Fair Babar Has Said In Numerous Interviews And His Teammates And Coaches Also Told The Same Thing that He Has The Desire To Become World's Best Batsman and He Also works Hard In Nets And practice a lot .He Already has A Near perfect Technique so I don't see a reason for him to not become a As Good as Kohli.
but then Again Kohli Has Set a benchmark That is very Very Difficult To achieve

You know what i think, and i think i might get a bit of flak for it, but in ODIs Babar is already a Pakistani ATG. 10 centuries, over 50 average and over 3k runs. These are unmatched numbers in ODIs as far as Pak are concerned.

Hmmm he is very close to become a Pakistani great.

He first needs to break Saeed Anwar’s record of centuries. And he will absolutely the best Pakistani LO batsman.

come on ... y these stupid comparisons... compare him to kholi after 200 matches when he has won us those amazing games ... doesnt matter if he scores lame 100z and stupid runs.. he needs to score runs as he did vs NEwzeland ... tht 1-100 for me was worth more than his 3 straight 100z vs WI ... he needs to score those 100z regularly ... then we can compare him to the gr8 Ponting,Kholi,Wilaimson,Smith ... atm he is just abt getting there ... he is above root atm but not like the others ...

Relax bro Hafeez has more hundreds than Babar

Babar has already surpassed Steve Smith in ODIs, hes slowly creeping up to Root and Williamsons level.

De Kock with 11 100s at 94.31 SR stands out.

QdK is an interesting case, he hasn't been that good recently. He still scores pretty consistently but lost the conversion rate. Had 11 100s and 7 50s at one point, now it's 14/24. Poor record in tournaments too.

I am amazed by Rohit Sharma. From 2 tons after 71 innings to 27 after 211. That's 25 tons in 140 innings, or one every 5.6

The good thing about Babar is that he’s humble, keeps his head down and gets runs, unlike some other youngsters in the Pakistan team. He will only keep on improving as he will never be satisfied with how good he already is. When players start thinking they are good enough, that’s when they stop improving and their performances start going down, loke Hasan Ali.

Needs to work on accelerating as he becomes too selfish the closer he gets to the target.

Once through, he tries to accelerate but gets too tired and is caught.

Yes he cracked the ODI code and once you have done that I think its quit easy for modern day opening batsmen now a days bowlers basically have to bowl a beauty and the wickets are flat. I feel that Babar after playing 100 odd games will become even better.

Since we are discussing T20I batsmen nowadays, let's compare Babar to the top 3 run-scorers in T20Is.

After 38 T20I innings:

Babar Azam 1471 runs
average 50.72
strike-rate 128.13

Virat Kohli 1470 runs
average 52.50
strike-rate 131.72

Rohit Sharma 898 runs
average 33.25
strike-rate 129.02

Martin Guptill 1109 runs
average 34.65
strike-rate 125.45

For a slow, impactless player, Babar's strike-rate isn't too far behind some of the best players.
