What's new

Balochistan (175/2) defeat Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (171) by 8 wickets to win Pakistan Cup (2022)

This is poor from PCB. What has happened to showing the games on YouTube. They have gone backwards again.

May be no resources to cover it because of the ongoing Pak vs Aus historic test series,

But that shouldn't be an excuse to go backwards..

dont see the hype about akif, looked like a poor mans zaheer khan last time i saw him, and id highly doubt hes even close to his listed age, and his insta handle suffix is 88, i cant be the only one to find that strange.

He struggled after a ligament injury in the 2020 National T20 Cup. But what interested me is a) he's a tall leftie who swings the ball into a RHB which is the hard part, and b) he seemed to have more of a bowling brain that Naseem, Hasnain, Musa etc.

Sohail Khan fined for showing dissent

Lahore, 9 March 2021:
Sindh’s Sohail Khan has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee for a level 1 offence for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during the fourth round fixture of Pakistan Cup against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the LCCA Ground in Lahore.

On-field umpires Qaiser Waheed and Nasir Hussain levelled the charge on the bowler, who accepted the sanction proposed by match-referee Nadeem Arshad.

In a separate incident, Northern have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in their fixture against Southern Punjab at the House of Northern, Islamabad in the fourth round.

Lahore, 26 March 2021: Central Punjab’s Ahmed Shehzad has been fined 35 per cent of his match fee for a level 1 offence for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during the tenth and final round fixture of Pakistan Cup against Sindh at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.

Ahmed, while batting expressed his displeasure over an appeal made against him by the bowler and also argued with the umpire. As such, he was found to have violated Article 2.8 of the PCB Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

On-field umpires Ghaffar Kazmi and Zameer Haider levelled the charge on the batter, who accepted the sanction proposed by match-referee Nadeem Arshad.

The semi-finals of the Pakistan Cup – the final tournament of the 2021-22 season, will be played at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Monday and Wednesday, with the winners going head to head on Friday at the same venue.

After 30 round matches, defending champions Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan recorded seven wins apiece, but Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has placed ahead of Balochistan on net run-rate. Sindh grabbed third spot with six wins in 10 matches, while Central Punjab finished fourth with five wins.

As such, in the first semi-final on Monday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will take on Central Punjab while Balochistan will lock horns with Sindh on Wednesday. The commentary panel for the three action-packed matches will consist of Ali Younis, Ayyaz Muhammad, Leena Aziz, Shah Faisal and Tariq Saeed.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are chasing the rare distinction of sweeping all PCB-organised events. They have already annexed the U13, U16, U19, National T20 Cup and Quaid-e-Azam Trophy titles – an achievement that speaks volumes of the talent and abilities of cricketers in that part of Pakistan.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa v Central Punjab

Rival captains Khalid Usman of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Central Punjab’s Wahab Riaz spoke with PCB Digital ahead of the semi-final:

Khalid Usman: “We have done really well in this domestic season, winning five tournaments and are really looking forward to end the season on a winning note. Central Punjab is a good side and they have some very good seasoned players. We too have a very balanced side and we are playing together as a unit since last three years. I am personally very satisfied with my bowling performances in the tournament and I hope it will help my team to win the semi-final and later final of the tournament.”

Wahab Riaz: “We have won our last two games before coming into the semi-final which included a win against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa so we will have an upper edge going into Monday’s semi-final. Our batting and bowling departments have performed well in crucial stages of the matches in the tournament and I expect the same from my boys to go all out to win the semi-final.”

In the first round match between the two sides at the Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa inflicted a crushing five-wicket defeat on Central Punjab when they achieved the 216-run target with 46 balls to spare. Wahab Riaz and Hussain Talat have shared the bowling responsibilities for Central Punjab taking 13 and 12 wickets, respectively.

Balochistan v Sindh

Yasir Shah will lead Balochistan, while Sindh will be captained by Mir Hamza. Both the captains sounded confident when they spoke with PCB Digital.

Yasir Shah: “Our side has performed consistently in the tournament. We have a very balanced side that includes young as well as seasoned players. We just need to carry on the momentum and I am very hopeful we can lift the trophy this season.”

Mir Hamza: “The players are united and they are delivering what they are capable of. The return of Sarfaraz Ahmed is a huge boost for the side and his presence will make a difference in the knock-out match as he performed in last match. I am hopeful the players will give their best on the field. We are not thinking about the result and we will go out to enjoy the game.”

Sindh comfortably defeated Balochistan by six wickets when both sides met for the first time in the tournament at the Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad. Half-centuries from Sharjeel Khan and Omair Bin Yousuf overcame unbeaten century by Abdul Wahid Bangalzai (136 not out).

I believe in this guy and his ability to score runs in international cricket. He had a very good Pakistan Cup and important to understand that 3-4 games he scored runs were curtailed games so overall very good from him. He should keep knocking and its likely that there is one final chance that he might get hopefully soon rather than later.

They give chances to him on away tours with 2-3 matches and then discard him to make scapegoat for series loss.

He last played in green colours in a T20I in NZL where he hammered Sodhi for 3 sixers in an over and Pak won the match and series, it is because of that over they were able to post 180 which NZL failed to chase..

Well after that he is dropped lol.. Whatmore tried him as opener in ODIs for 1 game, MA tried him as ODI opener for 1 game, this all happend when they are struggling to get away with Azhar Ali , Hafeez and Shehzads...

He would still make a good no.4 for both ODI and T20s, but need enough chances when he is in form, atleast 5 games each before writing him off..

126/6 KP - total disaster for them at the moment

KP bowled out for 171 - not sure if there is anything in the pitch or simply bad batting by KP?

Yasir Shah-led Balochistan made history when they defeated defending champions Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by eight wickets at the Multan Cricket Stadium to clinch the Pakistan Cup – the final tournament of the 2021-22 domestic cricket season. This was Balochistan’s first title since the inception of the new domestic structure in 2019.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have already annexed the U13, U16, U19, National T20 Cup and Quaid-e-Azam Trophy titles and were looking to take the sixth title home, but was unable to do so courtesy brilliant bowling and captaincy from Yasir Shah and batting from young right-handed batter Abdul Wahid Bangalzai.

Chasing 172 to win, Balochistan achieved the target in the 32nd over for the loss of two wickets.

The 19-year old Bangalzai took the centre stage in the final with a brilliant unbeaten 80 off 77 balls, the right-hander hit nine fours and two sixes in his innings to ensure a commanding victory for his side.

Bangalzai added 77 runs for the second wicket with Haseebullah (45 off 58, six fours) to provide his side a solid platform. Asad Shafiq who batted at number four, returned undefeated on 21 off 33 balls (one four) in a 70-run unbeaten third wicket stand with Bangalzai.

Balochistan took away the glittering Pakistan Cup trophy besides the PKR5million winners’ prize. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bagged PKR2.5million.

For his match winning performance, Yasir was named the player-of-the-match.

Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were asked to bat first by Balochistan captain Yasir. Right-arm fast Khurram Shahzad sent back Ashfaq Ahmed in the first over for naught. Kamran Ghulam held the innings together as wickets fell at regular intervals at the other end. The right-hander scored 70 off 91 balls (seven fours, one six). Khyber Pakhtunkhwa folded for 171 runs in 46 overs as leg-spinner Yasir took four wickets for 33 in 10 overs. Khurram and Akif Javed took two wickets apiece.
