The first bilateral series after a World Cup is often seen as a “new beginning,” and that is certainly the case for Bangladesh and Pakistan ahead of their three-match ODI series starting in Dhaka on Wednesday. Pakistan have included six uncapped players in their 15-man squad, reportedly as a response to their early T20 World Cup exit. Bangladesh, meanwhile, return to international cricket after a three-month break, having missed the World Cup due to political issues.

Bangladesh’s coaches believe the team needs improvement in the middle phases of both batting and bowling. They are testing a new middle-order combination with Litton Das and Afif Hossain returning, while openers Saif Hassan and Soumya Sarkar will be expected to provide a quick start.

Although Bangladesh have struggled in their last three ODI series, their bowling remains a strength. Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain are likely to handle most of the pace duties, with captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Tanvir Islam supporting them.

Pakistan’s lineup has generated plenty of curiosity, with four uncapped top-order batters in the squad. Sahibzada Farhan, Shamyl Hussain and Maaz Sadaqat could feature in the top three, placing greater responsibility on experienced players like Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha.

However, much will depend on captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, who will lead the attack with the new ball alongside Haris Rauf and Mohammad Wasim. The spin department appears thin, with Abrar Ahmed the only experienced option.

Pakistan squad: Shaheen Shah Afridi (captain), Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Faisal Akram, Haris Rauf, Hussain Talat, Maaz Sadaqat, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Muhammad Ghazi Ghori (wk), Saad Masood, Sahibzada Farhan, Salman Ali Agha and Shamyl Hussain

Bangladesh squad: Mehidy Hasan Miraz (c), Afif Hossain, Litton Das, Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan, Mustafizur Rahman, Nahid Rana, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Rishad Hossain, Saif Hassan, Shoriful Islam, Soumya Sarkar, Tanvir Islam, Tanzid Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Tawhid Hridoy

Battle of titans...

Farhan
maaz
shamyl

these 3 are set... Who is next...

riz
salman

Should play both Abraar Ahmed and Faisal Akram
If these two continue playing with good performances then that’s only way to keep Shadab and Nawaz out forever.

Knowing this Hesson will drop one and play a seamer likely Faheem in place of a spinner that too in Dhaka and lose the match

Pakistan is rotten to the core in terms of corruption , nepotism , player power and selection lobby.

Why would Hesson do that ? To safeguard his coaching job , obey his masters

Mirpur is traditionally a spin friendly wicket.
Both teams would go in with 3 spinners & load up on the batting, I'd guess.

Battle of minnows..... this series will decide who is at 4th and 5th place in Asia.

The top 3 steams in Asia are .....
1) India.... also World No.1
2) Afghanistan
3) Srilanka

Jaker should have been in Bangladesh squad, he scored 70 under pressure vs the #1 ODI team & Champions Trophy 2025 winners India.

A match between Forest Green FC and Boston United FC.

As usual the only excitement coming from fans of their respective countries.

Would be more interesting to watch paint dry than to see Forest Green being all over Boston United.

Supporting the Western neighbours today

Aapne to Aapne hote Hain
Don’t get your hopes up, this Pakistan team is fully capable of giving a performance symbolized by the brown stain on the pitch. And then you will see a 100 threads of bringing back xyz past it has been.

Hopefully PCB ignores the results of these doctored pitches

Good to see Farhan and Maaz open.. I think Shamyl can open with farhan though with maaz at 3 but no worries... Gotta cheer these guys getting their fair chance.

Let's go

For what you need Faheem ? Why not play a proper bowler . Hesson keeps messing up

Babar should have been there. This is his best format and idiots dropped him.
Why? So he can stad pad again and play for himself again? The last time he played a meaningful ODI innings was in 2019 in the WC against the Kiwis...I rather blood some youngsters in an inconsequential bi lateral series

Saim Ayub should have been here, that's the problem with PCB constantly changing and chopping , what if these openers perform on the low bounce pitches of Bangladesh and when selected for another overseas series they get failed.

What to do then , Saim is an allrounder now, foolish from PCB

You will have to eventually bring him back in meaningful matches in future so why not let him play and improve his form in meaningless matches which suits him also

Good for him to bat in domestic. I was against his benching but there's a tournament ongoing & he's playing in it so it's fine.

BD pitches and plethora of off spinners is not a good recipe to get back in form & gain confidence. Baba being benched is weird because he hasn't even played in the NT20.

Four players from the Pakistan team are making their debut in the first ODI match against Bangladesh.

Sahibzada Farhan, Abdul Samad, Shamil Hussain, and Maaz Sadaqat will play their debut match.

Sahibzada Farhan was presented with his debut cap by Haris Rauf, while Shamyl Hussain received his cap from Salman Ali Agha.

Faheem Ashraf presented the debut cap to Abdul Samad, and Mohammad Rizwan gave the cap to Maaz Sadaqat.

Not learned lesson of T20 world cup. Line up is still unbalanced which is more dangerous in ODI than t20

To be honest i like the batting of this team even though rather have chased...only issue is we should have Saim playing just becuase of his bowling they are spinners short and apparently Agha and Maaz will have to bowl 10 overs which they are not good enough. Bowling is surely weak i must say.

Should've picked one of the spin bowling all rounders instead of Faheem. Wonder how many Agha will bowl

Doesn't matter if he gets form back because as soon as he gets into a tournament, he will go missing...there's a reason why they call him a mental midget

Pulled in boundaries , empty stands, zero vibes ..

And then Banglas moan and hiss about Indian grounds....

Nervy start for both, especially for Maaz... he is looking like getting out on every ball.

Though they shouldn't bring the boundaries in this much. Looks like woman's cricket, not that there's anything wrong with looking like woman.

Pak thinks it’s late 90s-2000s again, playing as many allrounders as possible. Are there any hidden Abdul Razzaq’s or Afridi’s hidden in the midst?

As expected from Pak think tank on these rank turners , not playing their premier spinners both of them. Surprisingly Haris Rauf is benched under Shabeen’s captaincy.

Good to see Wasim jnr opted for opening the bowling with Shaheen

Ridiculous that Hesson went with 3 bowlers in ODI.

This bits and pieces strategy will backfire massively in this format.
well 4 if you include faheem as he is not a batter is he...its teh 5th bowling option.

But i do agree if this batting doesnt bat well i dont this bowling can defend anything.
