What's new

Bangladesh (187/9) defeat India (186) to win the 1st ODI by 1 wicket

Top 3 are guys who are 37, 35 and 34 respectively . All past their primes. England are dumping 32 year old Jason Roy but 37 year old Dhawan was made captain in the interim.

Get youngsters and then allow them to fail please instead of sticking with has beens.

Congrats to BD and especially brother Litton. Couldn't be happier. For once they didn't choke because they had a good human as captain :amla

LoL hahahah Indians trying to hide their tears.
It must be hurting a lot. Hahahahah.

Now Rohit has lost Asia ucp, world cup exit, now this could be a series loss given the lack of application from these guys. One bat was selected for BD, one was selected for NZ, then they mix and matched selected against for BD. Hope bD wins the series.

This is not an embarassment at all and the result is very much along the expected lines. Anyone that follows Indian cricket closely knows this team is old and on a decline. The worrying thing is bench strength is not good either.

We have tried almost every success story from domestic/IPL but all failed to make an impression in international cricket. The latest addition to the club being much hyped Kuldeep Sen. I also chuckle (secretly..shhhh) when people here overhype run machines like Umran Malik and compare him with class bowler like Haris Rauf. The Handful of young players like Gill who are somewhat successful in international level, we bench them.

There is very less talent left in Indian cricket at present and next few years will be tough for fans. Anyone who thinks otherwise is in denial. I am happy Bangladesh won today. Had we won, our pathetic and abonimal batting failure would have been shielded.

Brace for impact dear Indian fans...next few years would be tough.

But amazing that they could not take the last wicket, very ordinary bowling.

This reminds me of the time of fab 4, we used to lose against every other team back then.
World cup 2007 vibes

This series was going to be a lose lose situation. If you beat "you only beat BD" if you lose "can't even beat BD". No disrespect to BD. They are a solid side at home especially at a venue like Mirpur where Shakib has top record. Should have tried a complete set of new players liekt he one that beat full strength SA.

I didn't watch. But from what i gathered. they suddenly tried to bully the tail with bouncers and lost the plot. Bit like how England lost against Shami and Bumrah in a test match.

Great win for Bangladesh after a last wicket stand of 51 between Mehidy Hasan Miraz & Mustafizur Rahman.

Bangladesh has only played India 3 times in ODIs in India, the last time was in 1998. Maybe this win might see India actually invite Bangladesh to India for ODIs

They are world champs in LoIs for a reason. They have completely changed their strategy post their debacle in WC '15. While we are still stuck with our medieval mindset for close to a decade now which shows in our results too.

Alhamdulilah

Unbelievable what a win! last pair putting on 50 odd to win. Never seen Bangladesh last pair winning a game let alone putting on 50runs. Much needed win for Bangladesh.

ODI is Bangladesh best format. Now need to clean sweep them and make bcci invite Bangladesh for an ODI series instead of T20. How about that. Long overdue. Invite BD at its best format not T20 and Test.

Joy Bangla 😊

Congratulations brother well played, wish you clean sweep our team ,maybe that will help selectors to force changes and kick Dhawan, Thakur, Pant, Bhuvi

And Random selection. One series they play Pandya, Sky, Hooda. Another series they play Gill, Kishan, Samson, Pant Another series they play Arshdeep, Chahal, Kuldeep. Incredibly lottery selection. Then we have Jaddu gone to injury atleast that is what they say. But he is doing political campaign for his wife.
Then there are a lot of new kids on the block who are yet to make debut. Selectors made sure nobody's place is certain so that these oldies can always come back anytime they want

An unbeaten 38-run knock from Mehidy Hasan Miraz guided Bangladesh to victory by one wicket against India in the first ODI of the three-match series, at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday.

Asked to bat first, Team India was bowled out at just a mere total of 186 with KL Rahul top-scoring with 73 runs. Shakib Al-Hasan took five wickets.

Chasing 187, Bangladesh lost wickets in a quick succession and were nine down before Mehidy anchored the innings and took his side across the line, with one wicket and four overs in hand. For India, Mohammed Siraj scalped three wickets while Kuldeep Sen and Washington Sundar took two wickets each

India no longer have a settled LOI team.

In the past, XIs were usually settled. Gambhir, Sehwag, Tendulkar, Dhoni, Raina, Yuvraj etc.

That’s quite shocking stats. BCCI deliberate do this to avoid ODI series loss or something? they invite Lanka every year for ODI series and BD have been better ODI team than lanka for last 5years! or more!

Last time BD toured India the bcci included T20 series knowing how bad BD is in T20. It’s tactical. They know BD have a bigger chance in ODI than in other formats!

Trust because they have too many players at their disposal doesn't mean they can't have settled side. They are not allowed so that the 4 oldies always play. KL Rahul was picked as keeper to accommodate Rahul
India has Kishan, pant, samson. That is just nepotism

This result does not come as a surprise. Anyone who follows Bangladesh cricket closely would know that in ODIs Bangladesh is a different beast. Check out Bangladesh’s bilateral series record for the last 6/7 years in ODIs and you’ll know what I’m saying. Even with Taskin and Tamim missing, it would be disappointing not to win the ODI series.

When Incompetent leader like jay shah is bcci's Chairman and modi govt interfering every decision what would you expect ,they stripped kohli from captaincy because he disobeyed then and wasn't willing to be bhakt

"We Need To Think About How To Bat Against...": Rohit Sharma On Defeat Against Bangladesh In 1st ODI

India captain Rohit Sharma on Sunday made no bones about the fact that his batting unit needs to show remarkable improvement on how to tackle spinners on tacky track after losing a low-scoring thriller against Bangladesh by 1 wicket. Bangladesh's 10th wicket pair of Mehidy Hasan Miraj and Mustafizur Rahaman scripted an unbelievable turnaround with a 51-run stand that saw the hosts surpass a target of 187 in 46 overs. But it was left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan (5 wickets) and off-spinner Miraj (1 wicket), who shared the bulk of spoils during Indian innings as the visitors found it difficult to negotiate the slow bowlers on a track that had turn and bounce.

"The pitch was a bit challenging, the odd ball was turning. You have to understand how to play. There are no excuses, we are used to such types of conditions," Rohit said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

"We need to look at how to bat against their spinners in these conditions. The genes are there, these guys grew up playing in such conditions. It is all about handling pressure." While the last wicket pair pulled off a heist after being 136 for 9 in the 40th over, Rohit didn't run away from the core problem and that is inept batting.

"It wasn't enough runs. Another 30-40 runs would have made a difference. With KL and Washy, we could have got there. Unfortunately, we lost wickets in the middle, and it is not easy to make a come back," the Indian captain said.

He did praise his bowlers despite an indifferent last 30 minutes. "It was a very close game. We did very well to come back into the game. We did not bat well. We bowled pretty well and kept them under pressure till the end. They held their nerves at the back-end.

"If you look back at how we bowled, of course the last few overs where we would have liked to get a wicket, we kept taking wickets all through," the skipper looked at the positives.

The next match is also at Mirpur and Rohit is hoping for a better show.

"I am sure these guys will learn and we look forward to the next game. Hopefully we can change things around. We know exactly what we need to do in these conditions," he said.

Bangladesh have a very good ODI team tbh, put Tamim in place of Anamul Or Shanto and Taskin in place of Mahmud and they only get stronger.

Ebadot hossain has impressed me the most this year, he played a crucial part in thet Test win in NZ and has been very impressive in most of the games that he has played.

Rohit sharma/Dhawan/Kohli should all retire. They are unnecessarily clinging on to their spots. They are all multi millionaires. No real motivation to put their best foot forward. They take rest whenever they want. They play whenever they want. They give some random excuse after loss and move on.

LoL hahahah Indians trying to hide their tears.
It must be hurting a lot. Hahahahah.

Trust me, no Indian is trying to hide their tears. We are ashamed of whats happening to our national team. We knew this was not going to end well. Have you seen the selected squad? Players well past due their prime blocking youngsters who deserve a chance. This is pathetic from Indian cricket

regardless, congratulation to BD. It was a down-the-wire match!

I feel like most continental batsmen don't know when to quit.

If you folks have Rohit we have the likes of Mushfiqur and Riad. Mushy and Riad hasn't been at their best for some time now. Their strike rates this year is 74 and 66 respectively which is obnoxious. And the worst part is that they are going to play in the next WC which is still 10 months away.

They will go back to Bhuvi again. Bhumrah probably will occasionally take part in LOI. Shami is being phased out. Honestly a loss is good for India. C string side beat full strength SA. These guys have nowhere to hide now. Sure they might bully BD in one of the match They know their place is under threat. So team management is making sure finge player are rotated every series. Gill has scored 638 runs at an average of 70 with a SR of 102 this year. Samson averages 71 @108 . They were rotated out. Even Kishan played a blinder against SA. Next series he was gone. SKY in current form is a worthy experiment especially against these kind of spin in low bounce pitches.

Strategy is one thing. I don't think we have the amount of talent that many believe we have. :inti. Not good enough to win ICC silverware at any rate

Good catch by of Shakib by Kohli today

If we keep giving chances to have beens and never beens, we are never going to win any silverware.

Talent will come through when you permanently get rid of serial chokers and non performing assets like Rohit, Kohli, Dhawan, Thakur, Rahul, Chahal, Bhuvi etc.

If we keep playing rubbish, results will be rubbish too.

On what basis, Kuldeep Yadav and Bishnoi are not being played despite them performing really well when they were last played for us?

Why are Kishan and Gill not being played regularly instead of serial match losers like Rohit, Kohli and Dhawan?

Why is Samson not being given a consistent run like Blu eyed boy of BCCI, Pant has been getting?

Is this the paucity of talent?

That we don't have enough talent coming up the ranks in Indian cricket is a myth propounded by the ones who still can't see beyond have beens and never beens.

I can foresee similar result for us in next year's WC a la last ODI WC.

Bashing most teams in group stages and faltering at first signs of real pressure iin knock outs. Story of us in most world events during last decade!

Bishnoi should do well on sluggish Mirpur pitch.

He'll and host of others too who'll be hungrier to do well at this level.

And not these prima donnas who pick and choose games as per their whims and fancies,

All my years of following i have not seen this many talent coming through at the same time. May not be suitable for T20. For other formats India has too many options. These senior clowns take long breaks. Suddenly they pick a series and play. Then they go missing for few series. They would have skipped this BD series. But their place wil be questioned if they skip.

Congrats brother.

Always good to see BD win.

If BD got through to semis in the t20 WC instead of Pak, I would have supported them.

But have to be more clinical with wins.

True.

That's why I can only laugh at those who say talent is not coming through in Indian cricket.

As for those senior clowns, I'm sick of the sight of seeing these 3 at the top of our order. Absolutely detest them seeing at the top of our batting line up whenever they please!

This selfish practice was however started by Kohli (and Bumrah) who took rests at one pretext or the other while being absolutely fit and fine to play entire IPL without any complaints!

Good fightback my Mehidy. However, disappointed with BCB dishing out low scoring pitches. It won't help them prepare for world cup or in the long run.

Congratulations to Bangladesh and to Liton Das first as captain. He might be the first ever Bangladeshi Hindu to captain Bangladesh.

Liton has a superb record against India with the bat. He looks so comfortable against India.

On top of all their interference, Modi and Shah are real panauti for the team. We won 3 tourneys from 07-13 under Congress and also in 83, and since Modi came to power - 2014 final (sort of), 2015 semis, 2016 semis, 2017 finals, 2019 semis, 2021 test finals. At least we shared something with SL under vajpayee.

Makes no sense to me either. Players who are currently performing are being benched -but oldies because of name and previous knocks get to be freeloaders in the team.

I saw most of the WCT20 matches (including BD's). Both Mushfiqur and Muhmadulla did not partake in the WC (and I believe Tamim retired from T20?) - and you guys chose some players I have never heard of before to replace these guys. These guys did jack to begin with. Who is there to replace these senior players once they retire? I only see Liton Das and Taskin Ahmed. Apart from these two, who exactly is putting their hands up to replace these guys? I know T20 and ODI is different format but you get the point am trying to make?

lol, I won't credit Congress one bit for us winning those trophies but I get your point.

The duo is panuti not just for Indian cricket but for entire India.

Yeah, not crediting Congress for anything. Just stating that Modi and co are bad luck

We are in a decent state as far as bowling is concerned. I would say our bowling is international quality, not world class but it does the job in LOIs. We have some decent pacers in the ranks. Ebadat, Taskin, Shoriful, Fizz, Hasan gives good options in terms of pace and when it comes to bowling nasum, Taijul and Miraz are all solid. It is our batting which is the problem

We have the like of Afif and Yasir who have ability, and miraz potentially can bat in the middle order. Nurul hasan has good batting average (70) in this format. However, these new folks will struggle initially irrespective of the format. It has been the trend for BD cricket but we need to persist with them for the long run before they come good. People talk about how good Litton is but for the first 4 years of his career, his averages in all format where under 20 and that is despicable. We have some players in the ranks like Zakir, Akbar, Hridoy but not a great talent pool but we have do with them. Biggest problem is that we do not play in good wickets enough, dont play enough A team cricket and our domestic coaches are not quality.

True.

I kept saying that we have so batting talents that we can make make three teams full of batsman who can compete and Bowlers and allrounders also there but selection and captain are now a days decided by IPL corporates whomever Fund Ruling party more they have a fair share in influencing team selection and choosing captain.

When a player of Shubhman gill and samson's caliber made to sit and Dhwan ,Thakur,Bhuvi, Pant, Rohit etc keep playing series after series it hurts as fan

Only positive from this match is that KL Rahul should play in middle order (in both ODIs & T20s), he is doing better here than as an opener.

Also he should play either as Test Opener OR LOI Middle Order (decide between two). If he tries to do both, then one will affect the other. Choice should not be given to him, rather TM should decide which suits him best. In my opinion he should stick to LOI middle order role because he has shown more consistency here! (his wicket-keeping will be a bonus if needed, he is good enough WK in LOIs, he can easily replace Pant/Samson/Kishan,etc and we will not worry about trying & rotating them! He is far more consistent, experienced & effective than them!)

And he should unfortunately forget about tests and India should start looking for better alternatives... Again going back to him and asking to do both the roles will mess up again! Also he should bat in middle order even in IPL... In that way he can be very clear about his role in any team, any format! Also he can try for a middle order slot in Tests too, because there are vacant places even there! In this way he can become a reversed version of Rohit Sharma (Opener to Middle Order batsman) and become successful like him in the 2nd half of his career!

We can strengthen the weak middle order (for long time now), he can even do the act of "finisher" much better than someone like DK. He along with SKY, Iyer, Pandya, can be a formidable middle order. Also we seem to find more openers than middle order players (looking at the bench and looking at the upcoming players), so he can be valuable!

India have been fined 80 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against Bangladesh in the first ODI in Mirpur on Sunday.
Ranjan Madugalle of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after India were ruled to be four overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

India captain Rohit Sharma pled guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Michael Gough and Tanvir Ahmed, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Gazi Sohel leveled the charge.

When people like KL Rahul are brought in, India deserves to lose ALL games.

KL Rahul has repeatedly shown that he is UNFIT for international games. He is a good IPL basher and that's it.

Failure after failure after failure and this guy STILL manages to find a spot.

This shows the level of deep corruption, favoritism and politics that is happening in the Indian Cricket Management.

Ishan Kishen, Shami, SKY - you literally can pick any other player out of the bench who have done much better than this bloke.. and somehow he manages to wiggle his way in.

I don't know what kind of a witchcraft spell he has going.

All of india , atleast the real fans call him bkl rahul now due to his exploits in scoring 5 off 15 10 of 20 while others race across at 150 plus strike rates. He's also damad of Karnataka bollywood honcho Shetty, and state buddy of current coach Dravid. Due to his Bollywood connect, i am sure there are certain things left unsaid which gets him back in reckoning.

Also he once upon a time in SENA tours scored centuries , which like Rahane is a trump card , whiel guys like Sarfaraz score like Bradman and dont get look in test squads

Ishan kishen is the biggest flat track hack to come out of Ipl in last few years . He's as good as any old asian batsmen who used to be cale
led tigers at home and pussies abroad. Yet he will enjoy chances since he is in Mumbai indians.
