What's new

Bangladesh [260 & 221] defeat Australia [217 & 244] by 20 runs to win the first Test

That's again, because he is Shakib Al Hasan in Bangladesh cricket :)- it's a mind game cricket, Viv Richards wasn't Viv only because he could hit it hard.

Which I said given his performance in the last 4 years. He will have in the back of his mind that he is performing like a world class batsman

He is - it's one of the best Test innings of his career, coming at 10/3; and he did won a KO ODI match coming at 12/3, chasing 260+. Still, he is a fantastic all-rounder & I don't mind him batting the way he is doing.

Absolutely. This is how you should bat on difficult wickets. You never know when the ball will grip a lot and get your wicket, better score runs instead.

What it does it puts the opposition of their feet.

As I feared Maxwell got a crucial wicket. Of all the bowlers in the opposition.

That ball really gripped. That means only one thing. The pitch has some demons

I think, ball kicked a bit from length; it won't be easy to bat going forward here.

Yes it was bowled at a length and bounced quite a bit and turned. Tamim was befuddled. Difficult when the ball does that. Lucky for us he scored 70 odd runs.

Bangladesh still has some distance to go before putting up 300 which should be an excellent total

Again the key in Mushi here. Sakib is always a bit hyper, while Nasiris in gooform, but he is making a come back after a long gap. Miraj can bat, while Taijul can hold one side, but Mushi has to play long here as he is an excellent spin player.

Tamim threw it away.

Shot was on actually, and he played the right shot; but it kicked from length for top edge. On these type of wicket, one has to play aggressively.

I don't trust Nasir much, shady technique and comeback pressure. Miraz struggles against genuine pace so Cummins can wreak havoc. Hope these two walk into tea without losing their wickets.

Bare minimum bat out the day

We have to bat well here in 1st innings; don't see AUS bowling same length 2nd time.

2-3 needless wickets from Bangladesh today, could've been in a stronger position. Shakib must go big here.

How's the pitch behaving ?

Ball is turning miles. Bangladesh likely to bowl in the first session tomorrow. Ball will turn from first delivery

94/2 isn't a bad session, but 4 down should have been commanding position on this surface. Still, we can have an upper hand, if Mushi remains not out at stumps.

Shakib Gone. Bangladesh will do well to get 300 from here on.

Not only is their turn, there is variable bounce. Some deliveries rising to shoulder of the keeper and some keeping low.

It's not going to be easy to bat on this wicket

Dar has really detoriated. their was daylight between bat and ball. Dar gave Miraz out and unfortunately we didn't have reviews left

Based on cricinfo he was given out caught off the glove.

Mehedi strikes to remove Warner. Won't be easy for Australia here.

Mushfiqur needs to get Fizz on.

This is why Khawaja didn't get picked in India.

Worst player in the Australian lineup against spin which is saying something given Warner is in the team.

Knows he is bad so panics to get off strike so he doesn't have to face up.

260 seems really far away now. Shows how well Shakib and Tamim batted on this pitch.

lol Australia are going to lose a test series to bangladesh :hafeez2

Australia team is much weaker than England team. England team is capable of beating Sri Lanka team.

Need to kick out Somya and Sabbir from the 2nd test and never given chance in test.
Both Somya and Sabbir should play lower order (7/8) in the second innings.

Take Warner out of his comfort zone (true, flat pitches) and put him on a deck like this, he's all over the shop.

Thought this was a regular BD collapse and then came Australia to bat. Yep, definitely a mine field.

It worked and he batted brilliantly but it's a myth that 'this is how you should bat on tough wickets'. Many different methods can work. Just a few months ago, Pujara won India the match against AUstralia on a minefield of a pitch by scoring a patient 92.

Shakib's style works for him. He shouldn't change it.

BD has good chance in this test. They have runs on the board , and have managed 3 wickets for 20 .

Even a 25 - 40 runs lead can be decisive on this pitch. Batting last on third or fourth day will be very tough.

Pujara is different from your average modern day batsman. He is an exception. Not an example.

Shakib now fastest 3500 runs and 150 wkts record holder in test. He left behind Gary sobers. Congrats to shakib.

Then every Test'll become some mile stone for some. Standard is Test doubles - 100X wickets, 1000X runs. Kapil is at 4X4, Imran, Botham, SPollock, Dan Vat at 3X3; rest I think Sobers, Hadlee, Wasim, Kallis, Flintoff, Cairns, Warne, Benaud, Ashwin, Berbi as of now at 2X2 .... there could be few more as well.

Sakib might end up as 2nd cricketer with 4X4.

Hadlee is 3X3 actually - as usual, RJ is the most under rated cricketer ever:(

Kumble, MoJo & Bhajji are also 2X2.

Match is going to be very interesting for neutrals like me. As of now, Bangladesh is just ahead, however with Smith still there Id not discount a fightback from Australia.
D Warner as expected to be a walking wicket as soon as he steps outside of Australia. In current era, he is the biggest FTB going around. Scoring hundreds for fun on those Flat pattas of Australia, and as soon as he step foots on asian soil, he is no better than N Lyon aka a tailender. D Warner should bat at no 10 or even 11 when in Asia.

Still good but scattered rain predicted all 4 days

Need around 300 overs max & we have a full Day 1. So with the artificial light & upgraded drainage system, basically half of next 4 days should be sufficient for a direct result.

Shakib is ugly but effective, but got 4-5 lives in his innings. Tamim though was as solid as ever. Definitely one of the best openers in the world.

Just hope Mominul, Musa, and Taskin get back into the side asap.

Lyon couldn't quite do a Gillespie though. :shakib

I really want rain to stay away and Bangladesh win their 1st historic series against top nation.

It will also be first time in history where a nation lost all the series against all asian playing nations( excluding Afghanistan).

Smith can take this game away from us real quick.

Exciting test match. Bangladesh have the upper hand as Aust will need to bat last. Hoping for a Bangla victory.
A few observations :
1. The wkt is looking ans behaving like a poor day 4 wkt. Large foot marks and unpredictable bounce. All credit to Tamim that he batted so well. What a batsman.
2. Aust will bat last. I hate to see what this pitch will be like on day 3 let alone day 4.
3. Of the 3 wkts aust lost, one was a night watchman and the other was a brainfade runout. Only warner wkt was of a true batsman. I expect aust to come back strong on day 2 and fight back. This will not be easy for Bangla.
3. Very poor quality tv coverage. I dont even think the cameras are HD. Hope we do a better job in lahore when world xi tours us.
4. Bangla spinner bowled very well. Kept it on the stumps and mostly tight.
5. Where is mustafiz??

Nice morning at 8:30 am...sun and clouds are playing hide and seek...less chance of rain I think...hoping for a good day for cricket...but you never know...praying for a sunny day

Can't believe Smith would play a shot like that!

Wonder if Handscomb can play the Gilchrist role from the Fatullah Test of 2006...

That's absolute beauty - kid could have got the No. 1 batsman two ways, if not bowled, I think Smith was at least a foot outside, beaten by flight & drift.
