I don't think Pakistan will ever tender a formal state apology to Bangladesh because that leaves Pakistan vulnerable to many legal issues and repercussions. Pakistan can face demand for reparations by Bangladesh in international courts for the war crimes and that would leave Pakistan in a huge trouble with an already recovering economy. Bangladesh can maybe expect informal apologies from visiting ministers but I think Musharraf already did it once.

Pakistan can at the best repatriate the stranded 250,000 biharis living in refugee camps facing many issues there. They are the ones who have been deserted by either sides.


P.S.: I don't know why a few pakistani posters are apologizing here. It's not like they did the war crimes. They can very well criticize their army's actions in the '71 war but I don't think apologies from ordinary pakistani citizens are the order of the day.

Apart from religion, there is not much commonality between Bangladesh & Pakistan. Neither is trade between the two an important factor for their respective economies. If the current Bangladesh government is that upset with Pakistan regarding what happened 45 years ago, then it should simply break off all diplomatic and trading links with Pakistan. Pakistan has already accepted the atrocities committed in Bangladesh through the Hamoodur Rahman Commission. In the Delhi Agreement several military officers were persecuted for their offences.

Both Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Musharraf have expressed their regret over the actions of the military during the 1971 war.

There is no genocide denial in Pakistan however, the likes of Sarmila Bose (who is not Pakistani btw) and more recently Nawaz have claimed the involvement of Mukhti Bani in some of the incidents. Which, personally I believe it not far from the truth.
