Bangladesh tour of New Zealand (2022)

I think Bangladesh should counterattack. No point in being defensive as Kiwi total is very high.

Guptill tear confirmed | Targets Eden Park return

BLACKCAPS and Auckland Aces opener Martin Guptill is hopeful of a late January return to cricket after an MRI scan confirmed a tear in his left calf.

Guptill sustained the injury in the Auckland Aces Ford Trophy fixture at the Cello Basin Reserve on January 3.

NZC’s Medical Staff described the tear as moderate; said his condition was improving and that the injury would continue to be monitored during a period of rehabilitation.

Guptill and NZC Medical Staff are tentatively targeting a return in the Auckland Aces January 22 Dream11 Super Smash match against the Central Stags.

New Zealand may want to keep an eye on the over rate. Not sure if they are playing any spinner in this game (doesn't seem like it).

This innings should get over by today. Last 3 can barely bat.

This is the final recognized pair.

New Zealand ended the second day of the Christchurch Test firmly in control thanks to Tom Latham’s historic innings, along with a brilliant opening spell by Trent Boult and Tim Southee.

Bangladesh were bowled out for 126 by the end of the day – trailing New Zealand's 521/6 by a mammoth 395 – with Boult going past the milestone of 300 Test wickets with his 5/35.

New Zealand resumed on the second morning on 349/1, with Devon Conway bringing up his third century in only his fifth Test match. Captain Tom Latham brought up his double century at the other end, as New Zealand continued their domination in the first session.

Conway was eventually run out for 109, ending a 215-run partnership with Latham. In walked Ross Taylor to a standing ovation and a guard of honour, the veteran playing his final Test.

Taylor cracked four fours during his 39-ball stay, as New Zealand looked to up the ante. That meant the wickets flowed as well, and Bangladesh picked up four in the first session, including that of Taylor's.

The Black Caps picked up the scoring rate after Lunch. Latham was the aggressor, and eventually got out for 252, the highest individual score at the Hagley Oval.

New Zealand declared at 521/7, but not before wicketkeeper Tom Blundell joined the party and scored a quickfire 57* off just 60 balls.

Bangladesh were looking to build on their historic Test win at Mount Maunganui but Boult and Southee came out firing, claiming four wickets before Tea to leave the visitors struggling at 27/4. Boult picked up his third wicket of the first innings shortly after the break, inducing an edge from Liton Das for nought.

From 27/5, Bangladesh found some fight in Yasir Ali (38*) and Nurul Hasan (41). The two steadied the ship with a 60-run partnership for the sixth wicket before Southee got the crucial wicket of Nurul, trapping in front.

Boult then returned for another spell, and soon had Mehidy cleaned up for his 300th Test scalp – he became just the fourth New Zealander to take 300 Test wickets, after Richard Hadlee, Daniel Vettori, and Southee.

The rest of the Bangladesh line-up crumbled, and the visitors now face a huge task to stay alive on the third day.

BD have mountain to climb. They trail by 495 which is massive.I think BD will be all out by the end of day three.

This game should be over today.

I expect Kiwis to enforce the follow-on and wrap up Bangladeshi 2nd innings (innings win).

NZ did indeed enforce the follow-on, and Jamieson claims the first scalp in the 14th over. Strangle down the leg side

BD 27/1 (14.0), trail by 368 runs.

Tbf these left handers Naim and shanto look like they can bat. They play some brilliant shots!

This is the last recognized batting pair.

Last 3 can barely bat. They bat like Chris Martin.

NZ 521/6 d

BAN 126 & 278 (f/o)

New Zealand won by an innings and 117 runs

No body was giving BD a chance. They have done well to draw the series. It will be interesting where BD goes from here.If it starts winning more matches then it means it is making progress. There is a chance BD can regress too as it has done in the past.

Mominul Haque | Losing captain: We were happy in the first match but were disappointed here. I think it was challenging for us to keep up the momentum. But unfortunately we couldn't. Always we need to have a good mindset while playing overseas. We have some positives to take despite losing the second Test. When Liton was batting, it didn't look like a difficult wicket.

Devon Conway, Man of the Series: Happy the way the series went. Happy to be here. I had a little fear of getting hit on the hand again but that went away. Just had to contribute day in and day out. One had to adjust to a game plan. Nice to build that partnership with Tom. The guy (on Ross Taylor) has played that amount of Tests and has so much of knowledge about the game. Just a great bloke to be around. We will miss him a lot in the change room.

Tom Latham, Man of the Match | Winning Captain: Obviously nice. We came here 1-0 down. We needed to win on a few areas. Our partnership in the first innings was ideal. I have never felt more pressure while taking a catch (taking the catch off Ross Taylor). I guess from being here, you know the conditions better than anyone. Obviously nice to contribute. We put up a perfect performance and it was ideal. Just wanted to do things a little bit longer. We just passed the ideal baton to the other guys. We put up a perfect performance. All around the world, the surfaces differ from venue to venue. We obviously have done well across the world. Bangladesh put up a great game in the first Test. They (the bowlers) keep putting up their hand up. He probably didn't see waking up he will take the final wicket. It won't be the same without him at the first slip!

The Black Caps won the second Test by an innings and 117 runs as the visitors were no match for the hosts despite a brilliant Liton Das ton.

Bangladesh were bowled out for 278 after being forced to follow-on with Kyle Jamieson picking up four wickets and Ross Taylor ending his Test career in style with a wicket to his name.

Unlike their first innings, the Tigers openers Shadman Islam (21) and Mohammad Naim (24) ensured their team did not lose any early wickets to Tim Southee (1/54) and Trent Boult (0/42).

It was Kyle Jamieson who got the first breakthrough for the Black Caps as Islam clipped the ball behind to Tom Blundell.

Najmul Hossain Shanto walked out to bat next and showed intent throughout his innings, including a top edge six over fine leg. Shanto raced to 29 off 36 deliveries before Neil Wagner (3/77) got the final word and picked up his first wicket of the Test match.

After lunch, Mohammad Naim was removed courtesy of a very special catch from New Zealand captain Tom Latham, who dived to his left with his hand stretched out.

The closing stages of the second session was all about Wagner. He continued his fine spell picking up captain Mominul Haque (37), who edged one into Ross Taylor’s safe hands at first slip. He finished the spell by luring Yasir Ali (2) into a simple catch for Latham, ensuring New Zealand were in total control heading into tea.

Liton Das (102) and Nurul Hasan (36) steadied the ship for the visitors after the break as Das brought up his 12th Test fifty in a Boult over that saw 16 runs conceded, including four boundaries.

After a 101-run partnership for the sixth wicket, Nurul Hasan was caught by Wagner at mid-off handing Daryl Mitchell (1/18) his first wicket of the match. The next to go was Mahedi Hasan (3), thanks to another catch from Latham off a Jamieson delivery.

Meanwhile, Das displayed great resilience at the other end and was rewarded as he brought up his second Test career century before being trapped LBW by Jamieson for 102.

The ninth wicket also fell to Jamieson as Shoriful Islam went for a duck after lofting the ball into Southee's hands.

New Zealand's comprehensive victory was even sweeter when Ross Taylor bagged a wicket on the final ball of his Test career, levelling the series 1-1 and earning the Black Caps 12 important points in their quest for the World Test Championship.

New Zealand climb up the #WTC23 table after claiming 12 crucial points in the second Test against Bangladesh.

This result nothwithstanding, BD played magnificiently over most of the first test.
If they can take that effort and spirit forward, no reason whey they cant start competeting overseas.
Good to see Litton Das realize his potential, i feel this guy has a lot of strokes and can be a run scoring machine , if he applies himself.
good luck to BD!

Still a good result from the series overall for Bangladesh, 1-1

New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second Test against Bangladesh in Christchurch.

Jamieson was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”

In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to the disciplinary record of Jamieson, for whom it was the third offence in a 24-month period, taking his cumulative demerit points to three.

Jamieson’s previous breaches were on 23 March 2021 during an ODI against Bangladesh in Christchurch, and on 28 December 2020 in a Test match against Pakistan in Tauranga.

The incident occurred in the 41st over of Bangladesh’s first innings on Monday, when Jamieson used inappropriate language after dismissing Yasir Ali.

Jamieson admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees and ratified by the ICC Cricket Operations department as per the COVID-19 interim playing regulations. There was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Chris Gaffaney and Wayne Knights, third umpire Chris Brown and fourth umpire Shaun Haig levelled the charge.
Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

At the start of the series Bangladesh would have happily taken 1-1, so overall they will be happy with a drawn series. How many Asian teams have achieved that in NZL over the last 10 years? I think none.

Normal service resumed at the end however Bangladesh would be happy they escaped with a drawn series which is great for them.

:srtTotally fluke victory coming up for Bangladesh. A bowler with a ave of 60 ran through the NZ side at home. That’s total fluke. Next test will show it. Pakistan showed just how poor a side Bangladesh are. That’s their real status

As I said…

Some people also called Both BGT wins down under as fluke with never ending excusess what's your take on that...

May be you should learn to read properly. I can talk about myself and say that those wins came against weaker Australian teams. No one called them fluke wins. Stop crying like those who called NZ's WTC win a fluke. Both teams played their full strength team. You are finding hard to find an excuse here may be? :91: :inti

Number 1 ranked India got whitewashed in NZ on their last tour. Pakistan also got whitewashed if I remember correctly. Bangladesh needs to tour more and play against top teams. That is the only way they can keep improving. :inti

I think BD would take 1-1.

They were expected to get completely blown away but they ended up winning one game.

Biggest positives are Ebadot, Yasir, and Joy.
