Bangladesh tour of New Zealand (2022)

Ah, don't overthink it. BD has actually bowled and batted better. It does not mean that NZ suddenly became a poor team. One test does not define a team. What the team does in 4-5 years define them.

NZ gets slaughtered by Aus regardless of flat, bouncy or seaming wickets on most occasions. That's just a given..

Well we drew a series in Aus in 2011 with a much weaker team so clearly that's not the case.

India should probably takes some tips from Bangladesh, they're the best subcontinent team to tour here in over a decade.

Boult/Southee/Jamieson were trundling. Ebadat/Tasking was bowling close to 140k

They batted 176 overs . Bowled manfully long spells. Took some splendid catches. They clicked as a unit. Totally outplayed NZ. End of story. Everything that is happening outside shouldn't really rob the credit they deserve.

Yah , that weakness is an obvious one, but so what? NZ still played very well in certain conditions and I enjoyed watching the NZ team. This weakness on the flat pitch is the reason I did not rate NZ as high as some other posters. Yes, you may not win, but NZ becomes non-competitive at times due to bowlers becoming harmless.

Anyway, the beauty of test cricket. Play in all kinds of conditions and get tested.

As this fluke test ends. NZ needs to make just one change which is southee . Bangladesh should be toast in the next game
 
For the SA series we need a new keeper and probably Mitchell in for Rachin.

Rachin isn't ready for Test cricket yet.
 
Try to give respect where it's due. BD played really well and a test win can never be fluke.

It's easier to have fluke in T20, slightly harder in ODI, and much much harder in Test format. Maybe on green mamba or rank turner, you can fluke to win, but here it was an all-around great performance by BD batsmen and bowlers.

BD may not play like this in 2nd test, but I won't call this a fluke. You don't fluke your way to dominate 5-6 sessions in test.

Totally agreed. Great performance. It is a professional display. Test match win means you take 20 wickets. And winning by 8 means even more creditable.

Nahh not really, Indians don't really care about NZ, they have already won a series there just a little over a decade ago.. For the Indians, a NZ tour is about site seeing, mingling with friendly ppl etc in other words a holiday tour...

Its all good, you just not good enough to beat the Aussies on 95% of the time, you don't have the talent or determination aka what it takes to win against the best...

Many many congratulations to the Bangladeshi team, have always routed for their under dog status and being a part of their journey through all the lows, it makes me happy they have earned a monumental win over the ‘world champion’ NZ team.

But the big question as always..can you carry this win to next? You don't need to win the next test, I would take a fighting loss..but most likely scenario will be a innings defeat..I hope I am wrong though
 
As for NZ, they should be ashamed of themselves, they won at Lords but were never the better team and now, even in their backyard have lost BD despite their high rank and ‘world champion’ status.

NZ should forfeit their title and hand it to India, pathetic effort from them, a disgrace. Am not taking anything away from BD though, in fact I’ve always felt they had a mental edge over the Kiwis despite being looked down on.

I really can't believe that Bangladeshi players played this match so professionally , they played as a team was focused throughput except that brief period in NZ 2nd innings. Remarkable. Feeling sooo good.

Even if it is a fluke you shouldn't talk like this. Please maintain some decency . No test victory can be called a fluke. A test is played over 5 days. You have to win a few sessions , a few days to win a test. It's not odi or t20 man. Bangladesh have played well for 5 days . And it's a win in NZ against NZ

Ebadot is the man of the match. Well deserved. He bowled his heart out.

His average has improved after this game (it went from 80+ to 50+).

Nothing will take this away that is correct but it matters when you suck in the long run

If nothing comes out from this professional performance and we go back to square 1 with BD then we don't go anywhere

BD fans on the other hand will keep on milking this win like they have been doing of 2007 world cup 2015 world cups etc(bottom line is one win here one win there)

You are right. I hope this is not a one off thing. They need to use this momentum to produce consistently good performances.

BD is not going to become world-beaters overnight. They played very well here to win this test. Hopefully, this will give BD self-belief because they were rarely able to play with high intensity for full 5 days. I don't expect that they will suddenly start winning away regularly or even at home, but it is a huge step in the right direction. I will recommend keeping the Shakib-like figure out. The team played like a team and they were trying to win.

I agree. BD needs to forget shakib. He has been a valiant servant of BD cricket. The greatest cricketer BD ever produced so far. But now it seems he has other priorities
 
Congratulations to all the BD fans..

If they somehow win/draw the next game and end up winning the series, it'd be as big as India's win in Australia last year. Although I think even 1-1 is a huuuuuge result for them.

this is why test cricket is special and satisfying. there are no ifs and buts about doing it over 5 days. This ground also is not one of those where batting first is a disadvantage.
I think not having Shakib worked in your favor.

There have been parallel situations in football, not many in cricket.

Gerrard with Liverpool 5-6 years back and Ronaldinho with Barcelona in 2007/8
