Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka: Which is currently the worst Asian side?

We are much better. We would likely win 3-2 or better in Lanka but surely win 4-1 or 5-0 at home. That is for ODIs.

Tests: even whilst Herath plays.
 
In ODIs Sri Lanka lost to Zimbabwe they are close to associate level at the moment.
 
Let not the brilliance of Pakistan fool you about the weakness of this Lankan side.


Pakistan has three batsmen averaging 50+ (Babar, Fakhar, Malik 2.0, you can add Imam too). We have the best spinner in world cricket and the best overall bowling attack. Any side would have looked minnows infront of this Pakistani side.

Sri Lanka aren't bad. They will beat BD 3-2 at home.

It's a close call. A series with full strength squads would be competitive. Could go 3-2 either way.
 
The decline in form of Soumya is a worry for BD.. Such an outstanding talent needs to be backed and should be given a free license.. Think management hasnt backed him properly.. will do wonders if he plays under Sarfraz's, the master of backing youngsters, captaincy..
 
I guess there is only one way to find out. Let them play against each other and settle the matter once and for all.
 
Presumably meaning in ODI cricket, seeing as Sri Lanka just whitewashed Pakistan in the Test series. Depends where they play. On neutral grounds, Sri Lank would win against Bangladesh, who are mostly only effective at home.
 
Sri Lanka still stronger of the two sides. Bangladesh though will be favourites if they are taking on Sri Lanka at home. They have defeated better teams at home but SL to win everywhere else.

Seriously!! I am itching for the day we get to play you lot like if it were up to me I would've just asked for an away series from BCB right about now......

The audacity you blokes have even after the disintegration you've been handed in the last 4 weeks is just :facepalm: worthy.....

Only some fans here have this mentality. It's sad because it makes the good ones look bad as well.

Bangladesh fans having a hard time accepting some cold hard facts. You guys did beat us the last time we played but take a look at that team, the bowling was pathetic. The batting was in shambles.

Why don't we play/when do we play them next?

Coming to the OP, I think Sri Lanka is still the overall better team, they are extremely low on confidence currently. They have a couple of good pace bowlers who would do better then there Bangla counterparts in SA, Eng, and Aus.

Last time they played odi series against this SL they were lucky to be saved from series defeat in odi series as they were chasing 320 in decider and rain save BD from that series defeat where even Zim beat SL in odi series

By the same token BD drew a Test series in SL but PAK got whitewashed at home. BD wouldn't get whitewashed at home by SL.

did i say pak is better test side than SL or BD?we have beaten them last time we have played test series in SL

unfortunately current Pak team is SL and BD level which needs time to settle
 
A fully fit Sri Lankan squad is better.

BUT Bangladesh has closed the gap in ODIs.
 
Would be a cracker of a series. Ppl underestimate Lankan batting , they played without Mathews, gunaratne, kusal perera , Malinga and gunathilaka against a quality bowling line up probably the best in the world now. If these five played then no place for Chandimal, thisara etc. They have a good unit if all put together. Mathews fitness and defensive captaincy have cost them more than the void left by two stalwarts.
 
In ODI's, Bang are better. SL are a stronger Test side however.

He can still done fine in his current set up. Sarfraz can't make miracles for every player.

Crcket is a confidence game.. Needs backing , support , guidance and confidence from your seniors especially captain.. Sarfraz would have handled him well.. What Sarfraz told to Fakhar did wonders for us something alone the lines "Dont look at your technique, just play your natural game without fear of losing and getting out. Technique cant be changed in one day".. Soumya needs such backing and confidence but unfortunately he was dropped from BD odi side...

Similar thing happened with Inzamamam when he was horribly out of touch but Imran gave him confidence before semi final and he played an ATG innings... Confidence is v.v.important.

Pakistan. I am still suffering nightmares about the recent series defeat. Probably the most inept performance by a Pakistan team since the Australian tour of 2010. I am dreading the future if we keep selecting absolute wastrels like Shan Masood to open the batting.

Fakhar is a naturally aggressive player . He didn't need Sarfraz to tell him to play his natural game . Sarfraz deserves more credit for the way he handled the bowlers and used them in an attacking way .

But Fakhar himself praised Sarfraz.. Anyways my point is simple: you need your captain to instill confidence in your players especially youngsters and back them.. there is a reason why every kid who debut under Sarfraz is performing well be it Rumman, Fahim, Usman, Imam, Shadab, Fakhar.. even Junaid is doing well. Not that all of them are world class.

Shadab said a beautiful thing about Sarfraz "Sarfraz bhai hamain match sai phlai khtay thay k haar sai drnay ki zaroorat nahi, just play with positive mind and give your best.. agr haar gaye to zimaidari meri" ... In 5-10 years from now Sarfraz would be hailed as legend by these kids because of the backing and environment he has given these kids to develop... Mark this post!

Against a Pakistan in transition and left in a dump by Misbah. Are you seriously suggesting you would beat this Pakistan team in any given venue?

Pakistan would 9 time out of 10 in any given venue. Bangladesh would win the 1 game from a substandard cracked pitch in Chittagong, Dhaka or wherever

If that PAK side was in transition the current BD side is in turmoil. I reckon a series between PAK and BD would be pretty close and would probably go 3-2 to PAK.

Pakistan would whitewash Bangladesh 5-0. Their best batsman Tamim Iqbal was ineffective against Pakistan in the World XI series. What chance do they stand?
 
One series in 2017 doesn't tell everything. Overall since 2015 Bangladesh has been a better side at least in ODIs. Even at this poor run of former I would bet on Bangladesh against Sri Lanka. Bangladesh has the ability to whitewash them 5-0 at home or won by 4-1 margin at away.

I would expect slightly more competition from our Pakistani brothers at least if it's in UAE/Pakistan. Still we should won the series 3-2 against them even in their own backyard. And if it's in Mirpur then Bangladesh will win the series 5-0/4-1.
Also this Pakistani side is young and inexperienced. You are living in dreams after this circus series against kindergarten category Sri Lanka :)) Bangladesh might be the harsh reality check for you guys. Come on let's have a tour ;-)

Champions Trophy is almost like a lottery knockout tournament, sometime weaker teams with fluke wins can win it. (But I am glad you won it, India lost it that's what matters and I was very happy :) !)

You see, even we were not in our best of form, still we managed to go to the semi finals :))

However after all this, still you are ranked pretty close to us ;-)

Started CT ranked 8th, now 7 points cleared of #7. Good progress in my view ;-)

This has to be with the fact that Bangladesh didn't play good number of odis compared to other traditional top teams. On the other hand now we are playing an overseas series.

For every team with schedule of overseas tours against good sides:tahir2 you would except a sudden points loss. Especially if your direct competitor 1# behind or ahead have easy home serieses at the same time.. :hafeez2

When did I said Pakistan is a minnow ?? So you are name calling^^ you are in great form at the moment, fine.

And it was one of you guys who opened this thread about which team is the worst Asian side not we 'minnow supporters'. You asked, I replied. It was my opinion. I didnt imply that Pakistan were minnows, so why you are name calling.
If you think Pakistan is better than us at the moment, OK. Even some fellow Bangladeshi posters may agree, but I don't. Case closed.

Technically it's China

Among FMs
Afghanistan but that's only because they haven't played much
In t20is they are already better than BD though

Among BD & SL
SL is very good at home in tests,also beat Pak in UAE,drew in WI
Elsewhere they are poor

BD are good in Odis in Asia
Elsewhere they are poor

Tests matter more than Odis so SL are better among the two
