Bazid Khan's commentary: What do we make of it?

Agree, Ramiz is a lot better and you never get bored listening him.

Bazid, Chishti are too boring for my liking. No fun hearing them commentate.

Regards the OP, in what manner are you using for comparison? I like what Bazid has to say, he's generally insightful whereas Ramiz is there for the razzmatazz. You need contrasting personalities in the commentary box and it helps when there's a natural rapport between them, which is difficult when a lot of these commentators don't work together often.

You can tell there's a rapport between Ramiz, Danny Morrison and Pommy Mbangwa because they've been working together a lot in the last few years.

Why do people dislike Ramiz so much? He's an ATG commentator and has been the voice of Pakistan cricket since 1999 with the most famous catch phrases in the game today.

He has a good command of English. But his sentence structure and the way he says things are odd for a native English speaker. He puts too many adjectives and cliches in sentences and ends up sounding cheesy. But he is the voice of Pakistan Cricket i agree with that.

His commentary is very informative and has excellent knowledge of our domestic players, unlike some "expert" Pakistani commie *cough*ramiz*cough*.

He has potential. He'll improve with time imo. But in the meantime should stick to his strengths.

Just tell me how was he selected for commentary....Just played a Hand ful of games

Had pathetic ENGLISH AT START

Any way..I can be a commie??..Plz its my dream...and I have good command of english ...got 97% in tofel recently:inti

More suited to being an in-studio analyst. Has a very dull voice, ideal if you're lacking a few hours of sleep.

Extremely dull and mundane voice not suited for international level test match cricket i wish :nasser was available here

He is working on his delivery, but far far more astute than rameez about Pakistan cricket.

He is good and he just needs to add some emotions in to his commentary

I like Bazid's commentary notwithstanding his monotonous tone. He knows about Pakistan cricket and the domestic performers, which is unique among all Pakistani commentators. He also talks naturally, and his comments are almost completely free of cliches.

He has good understanding of the game tough. Its just the way he talks

He mentioned the point about oh haddins batting stance is a little similar to Martyn: I had not noticed that

Ramiz is one of the worst commies in the business. To put it in cricketing terms he is a T20 specialist. The guy feels the need to fill the air to the point of being too obvious and overbearing, the best commies are the ones who let the game breath, Ramiz on the other hand not only blabbers on but is also incapable of providing valuable insight into the game, he barely does his homework on Pakistani players and in a lot of times cannot hold a cricketing conversation with his fellow commies. He needs a lesson on Test match commentary from the Sky Sports team.

Bazid Khan is pretty decent, he seems to have a good knowledge of Pakistani players and also at times provides good insight but one thing he need to cut out is the cringeworthy attempts at humor.

I'm going to change my mind on this.

I'm now a fully subscribed member of the Bazid Khan Commentary Fan Club. Thought he was brilliant in the series with his dry sense of humour :)) The gentle ribbing between him and Scott Styris was great.

Styris: I remember that Shoaib Akhtar ball to Fleming. It was so fast he couldn't get his bat off the ground !
Bazid: Yes I remember...slower ball wasn't it Scotty ?

Another highlight was when "Baz" went on a long story about being the drinks carrier and accidently lost Shahid Afridi's drink, and Styris replied after this rather rambling speech with "cool story bro" :))

I'm fan of his commentary and insight, hence I think he should go to the WC and commentate for us.

He is good. Has offered more insight, has preguessed some Kane Williamson captaincy. Needs a bit of a wind up to get going. By contrast rameez is a tad predictable

Given that every second thread is about who should be part of the pak squad, I am going to go with a different question:
Who should be the voice of pakistan at the World Cup: rameez or bazid?

To be honest I'd rather see both there. I know Rameez has become a parody of himself with his commentary cliches but its still entertaining. Bazid is slightly better in terms of analysis. Can't see why Pakistan cannot have multiple commentators like other teams.

India always had the likes of Shastri, Bhogle, Sanjay etc. Australia and England have had a whole bunch of their guys going to the ICC tournaments, West Indies usually have Cozier, Holding and Bishop whereas Pakistan always seem to have Rameez on his own flying out to the event.

Another below average commie by world standards but as by Pakistani standard he is decent enough

Absolutely loved mr bazid khans commentery.. Also a big big fan of ramiz.. They are good..
I just hates lankan commentators.. And our indian commentators like the great murli vijay kapil dev l.shivramakrishnan

He's a lot better than any other Pakistani commie but his voice is dull. About Ramiz i 'll say if he's in an empty room he's still not the best commie in that room :hafeez2.He is so annoying and has absolutely no clue about any young players

His knowledge, vocabulary, sentence structure and maturity is very good. He is not childish like Rameez.

I think the issue is his response is not very quick and spontaneous to the live events on the playfield.
Also lacks a little passion and fire in his tone.

It is mega event and we should have both.

He is great, only nitpick is his unwillingness to be critical of YK an shafiq but we all have our bias

needs to improve his play by play otherwise he is good, isn't boring and repetitive.

I think he's quite decent... Better then many..might not be as exciting as Danny but says the right stuff

Yes he has a dull and boring voice but his knowledge and vocabulary are great. Better than the cringe worthy commentary by Ramiz. Plus Danny and him make a good duo when commenting together.

He has really improved as he's gained more confidence

Bazid is ok overall just doesn't have that voice to go with it.

Like most others have said Ramiz is just terrible and I almost always turn the volume down when he comes on, absolutely nothing insightful just terrible terrible cliches.

Also the terrible terrible puns him and Brian Murgatroyd have been using of late are so cringeworthy.

I found him to be very good. Has a dry sense of humor and his banter with styris was great. Much more knowledgeable about domestic cricket than Rambo.

I like him.

This commentary panel is good although Rameez hasn't been at top of his game.

Fantastic commentator. Its his success as a commentator that cricinfo decided to get his thoughts on the selection of the World t20 squad, and not Ramiz.. Clearly they see him as someone who can really represent Pakistan, and as is the case, he was spot on with all of his comments

I don't like him that much. Especially when he uses words like " They are bossing the game"you need to use bossing? So cringworthy.

I think first time I heard it was from Gavaskar son(One of the worst commentators) He also uses words like Gonzo. "He is a gonzo" lol I wanted to slap him for using such words.

Rameez is an entertaining commentator but Bazid on the other hand knows a lot about the local players and analyzes the game better than Ramiz.
I find Rameez's vacab cringeworthy. He uses some really big words but he's all over the place with them.

He is very good and has improved a lot. Easily the best commentator from Pakistan

His knowledge about players and game is praise worthy. True professional.

?

It's a common turn of phrase which has been in popular usage since before many PPers were born.

is this the guy that sounds like hes either drunk, or stoned, or both?

if so, i think his comments have been well constructed, and he seems far more tolerable as compared to rameez in terms of content. however, his voice is just the worst ive heard of any commentating. quite apart from his total mental shut down when it comes to 'v's versus 'w's, that drawling voice of inebriation is just not fit for broadcast. it seems he's working on it, but instead of sounding like hes about to fall face first off his chair, he now sounds like he'll be shouting at someone while he falls face first off his chair.

what a truly awful broadcasting voice.

He has gotten better, where is Sikandar Bakht these days?

2nd best Pak commie atm after Ramiz.

If you appreciate ch@mcha giri then I suppose you could consider him second best. If you like actual opinions and informed ones at that, then I would suggest he is the best for a long while.

To even call Ramiz a commentator let alone having him no.1 is a sly dig at the great commies of yesteryear.

Btw Bazid is very good.

You as a listner dont feel embarrassed when the co-commentators asks Bazid about the the local players as he has alot knowledge about them. With Rameez there you dont feel comfortable at all.

agree.Ramiz even do not know the names of domestic players.Baz is very knowledgable comes from very good family

Time for Bazid to be permanent member of Commentary Panel for all Pak Series.

He is Ready Now.

Yeah he should really have been there on the Sky panel instead of Ramiz and Wasim.

He's so much better than Ramiz. For one he has a larger vocabulary than the rinse n' repeat vocabulary of Ramiz.

He is Fawad Ahmed of commentators , his delivery of the words and accent is not smooth but rough and not fluent at all, but his comments are better then Ramiz's. For me Waqar, is the best among Pakistanis.

The guy knows his stuff which is pretty refreshing when it comes to commentators from Pakistan. Such a shame that the domestic plans drawn up by him and his father don't get a single look at by the PCB because I'm sure they would be a lot better than what the PCB can ever come up with.

He should definetly commentate for Pakistan in every match. Currently he only seems to commentate in uae or the ‘home’ matches but I think he’s good enough to commentate in all of Pakistan matches whether home or away.

Yeah should be off to NZ series as well.

Hope Bazid is reading this thread.

the most boring commentator in the world. He and Waqar are the reason why watching Pakistan games in the UAE seem so dull, and it's like the coverage never seems to improve as years go by. You can watch a match from 7 years back and one from these days, nothing has improved

Boring and drag. Has good knowledge but if I wanted encyclopedia during a match I would browse through cricket websites.

Bazid has an underrated, dry sense of humour. Likes to troll and needle his co-commentators.

Has a good knowledge of domestic players too.

Don't see why people find him so boring, I personally like his commentary. Doesn't say stupid stuff, knows what he's saying and can be funny at times.

Boring voice but has a good commentator. Has good humour and also has good knowledge of Pakistan domestic cricket.

An intelligent commie with loads of knowledge and a good understanding of the game.

Boring voice. I feel like i'm pushing a heavy cart on an inclined surface whenever i listen to him.

Overall dont mind listening to him.

Much more knowledge than Ramiz and Waqar.Good command over the English language and has more structure to his words. But yes,his voice is boring.Overall I like him.I like his ribbing of his fellow commentators, especially Russel Arnold :afridi1

Knows what he is talking about and has top banter with the other commentators. Best Asian commentator around, the best Pakistani one without a doubt.

The likes of Sky Sports in UK, Channel 9 in Aus and other foreign broadcasters like to bring one overseas commentator in respect of the opposition for their home side. We've seen Ramiz Raja always been given this role but he's past his sell by date for many many years now. He was good in late 90s and early 2000s but nowadays his mouth is too fast for his brain!

Channel 9 looks like during the Aus tour last year perhaps picked up on this and went for Waqar Younis which is a step in the right direction since he at least knows what he's talking about when it comes to bowling however this is overshadowed by his flaws in his use of grammar like "use of a new ball" rather than - use of the new ball as it should be said plus his philosophy when it comes to batting is too defensive minded - sometimes he will talk about the need to attack and play positive cricket but when he was a coach he was the opposite.

Bazid Khan is the best when it comes to content - just needs to work a bit more on his oration skills as it's quite monotone.

I like him. He is better then the loud mouth commentators whose intellect is lacking. He brings some form of charm in the commentary box.
