Why is Pakistan former cricketer embarassing ourself .

Why he is think gambhir is a parchi .

"VVS Laxman should have been the head coach of the Indian team because he has been working as the head coach with India B for quite some time. It seems like Gautam Gambhir got the position through favoritism."

I just used Google Translate. Lol, this guy has zero knowledge about Indian cricket. Of course, most Pakistani players have poor knowledge of cricket nuances, yet they talk like experts. He's one of them

Laxman was the natural successor to Dravid, and deep down you know that very well.
I would have agreed with you if Laxman was in the race and got rejected. But he's not interested. He mentioned before that he's not ready to travel because he wants to be with his family, especially for his kids' education. He didn't even apply for that position.

Tanveer is right. Gambhir’s honeymoon period will be over soon.

I sense that this Gambhir stint will be a disaster for India and will end in tears. Coaching a national team and getting the star players united throughout the entire year is totally different to coaching in IPL for 4 weeks.
Of course we're nervous about Gambhir. His main issue is that he has the "main character" syndrome more than any Indian coach since Chappell. He has had conflict with players and leaders previously and is a bit old-school in his views on player availability, discipline etc. There definitely possibility of failure.

On the whole though, most Indian fans are pretty optimistic for many reasons
- He inherits a team brimming with talent and experience. Lot of candidates for most roles
- He does seem to understand the needs to modern cricket especially T20 and ODI. His team selections and tactics have been aggressive and well suited to the formats in the franchise teams he's managed
- BCCI's set up over the last 10 years has become increasingly professional and able to handle small conflicts without blowing everything up
- He does have a free hand in the T20 team but on the more crucial Test team, he's balanced by one of India's most loved and revered captains and a stable team. Nothing he can ruin quickly even if he tries to.

Let's see how it goes but even things do go a little wrong, I highly doubt your fondest hopes of disaster will be realised.

I like the bolded part. Gambhir seems a no-nonsense guy. He will have enough support from the assistant coaches and the BCCI. People picking and choosing tournaments in the name of workload management will be a bit worried.

Gauntam Gambir and BCCI, match made in heaven, zero brain cells between them.

Shastri's take on Gambhir's appointment as new India coach

Ravi Shastri believes Gautam Gambhir can make an immediate impact in his new role as head coach of India because he’s a “contemporary” mentor and already close to the team.

Gambhir faces the task of taking over from Rahul Dravid as India's head coach with the national team at the top of their powers following their recent triumph at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.

But Shastri believes Gambhir can flourish in the job given he takes over a relatively settled team and has recently tasted success when coaching Kolkata Knight Riders to this year’s title in the Indian Premier League.

"He's contemporary, he just had a great season in the IPL. I think he's the right age where he's young, he'll come with fresh ideas. He knows most of the players, especially in the white-ball format, having been part of teams in the IPL. So I think it's refreshing,” Shastri said, speaking with host Sanjana Ganesan on the most recent episode of The ICC Review.

"And we know with Gautam, he's a no-nonsense guy. He'll have his ideas as well. And the good thing for him is he's got a mature team. He's got a settled team, a mature team. I think even though you might think you're mature, you might benefit from some fresh ideas. So I think it'll be interesting times.

"Obviously, player management becomes the key as a coach. So it'll be interesting to see how he goes. I think he's got the tools, he's got the goods for the job and he's got the experience."

Gambhir's first task as India coach will be the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka later this month, while further challenges await the 42-year-old in the form of next year's ICC Champions Trophy tournament and qualifying for the 2025 ICC World Test Championship final.

A key to achieving the latter will be overcoming Australia on their home turf in the five-Test Border-Gavaskar series starting in November.

There's also the job of finding replacements in the shortest format for long-time stalwarts Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja after the trio retired from T20I cricket following India’s success at the T20 World Cup last month.

"There's so many (good India) players out there and it's just about getting the right mix," Shastri noted.

"I think a lot of the players that won this T20 World Cup will still be around two years later (at the 2026 T20 World Cup).

"You mentioned the three players who were retired (Rohit, Kohli, Jadeja), but barring them, I think most of the others will be still fit to be in that T20 World Cup team two years down the line in India.

"So I don't think there's much to be done there. In fact, you will get a problem on your hands because you'll have to choose from the new lot that's coming and there's some real exciting talent there.

"So I think it's the other way around. It's how do you get those guys in there that they're bursting at the scenes to get it. There's a queue out there and that will be his biggest challenge, but it's a good headache when you have that kind of talent."

Shastri said working out how to manage each individual player will be pivotal to Gambhir's success.

"It's a question of just understanding his players as quickly as possible," Shastri added.

"What their strengths are, what kind of human beings they are and what kind of temperaments do they have? What are their personalities? A lot goes behind the scenes to understand a human being.

"I think that will be his most important task, which I think again should not be a problem because he's contemporary. He's seen these guys from the outside, he's dealt with a lot of guys who might have played with KKR as well and for Lucknow (Super Giants) when he was there.

"And he's been around the circuit, the moment he finished cricket and that was not too long ago, he still is around, plays a lot of the legends cricket as well."

'His Intent and Communication is Very Clear': Shubman Gill Breaks Silence Around Gautam Gambhir's Leadership in India Camp

As the new-look Indian team gears up for their upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka, all eyes are set on the newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir, who took over the post after the departure of T20 World Cup-winning coach Rahul Dravid.

Known for his aggression and his spirited nature of leadership, Gambhir found success in the IPL recently, mentoring his beloved Kolkata Knight Riders to a successful trophy-winning season.

But, now it’s time for him to go international, and India’s white-ball vice-captian Shubman Gill came to his support, stating that the 2011 World Cup-winners leadership in the camps has been sharp with crystal clear communication.

“We have had just two net sessions so far, and this is my first time of working with him (Gambhir). But in the two sessions, the things he has spoken to me, what I found out is that his intent and communication is very clear – like what he wants out of the players and in us going about our business, his communication remains very clear,” said Gill to reporters.

Much was said about making Gill, who captained India to a 4-1 T20I series win in Zimbabwe, the new vice-captain for the Sri Lanka tour. But, for the opener, it does not change his responsibilties as a batter one bit, but rather pushes him to become better.

“As a batter, it doesn’t change much. When I am batting out there, I still need to perform and need to be able to win matches for my team and my country – that doesn’t change. But when you are on the field, you need to make a bit more decisions than any other player, which is a major difference.”

“My performance in T20Is before this year’s T20 World Cup didn’t go well as per my expectations. Hopefully, going forward in this cycle, where we would be playing 30 to 40 T20 games, the endeavour will be to get better as a batter, and also in terms of team performance.”

The batter also credited the mutual understanding that he had built with his new T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, as a factor that drives him to aim higher and achieve more success with the Indian team.

“The way of thinking and manner of doing things is almost the same in every player. I did play under Surya bhai in the T20Is in South Africa last year, so the understanding and communication between the two of us are very similar. It’s something you will get to see in the matches too.”

The first T20I of the three-match series between India and Sri Lanka takes place on Friday, which will also mark the beginning of Gautam Gambir’s stint as the side’s head coach.

What a beautiful message from Rahul Dravid to Gautam Gambhir .

This beautiful message had reactions recorded for public consumption.

What is Gambhir doing? Trying to do his PR and create an online personality? Since when do Coaches start taking the front seat?

And Dravid, just because India had its worst WC campaign under your captaincy, don't use this T20 world cup as some sort of happy ending for you. Coach Gary Kirsten achieved much more but did not try to hog the limelight which these attention hungry Dravid and Gambhir are doing.

In just 4 games, head coach Gautam Gambhir has witnessed two ties in his tenure.

Attention grabbing Dravid?
The guy refuses to come on social media despite all the offers and literally gives away his awards/ price money.

Yet was standing on the podium to lift the trophy. Have seen a coach lift a trophy like that the first time. Not a good sign that now coaches are trying to stay in limelight.

Former India cricketer Ashish Nehra expressed his disapproval of Gautam Gambhir's approach in the Sri Lanka ODI series, he said while speaking to the local media:

“The next series India play is 2-3 months later, a rare thing for us. So for players like Rohit and Kohli...I feel there was a better chance of giving opportunities to other players during this series. I know Gambhir is a new coach, and he wants to spend some time with the experienced players, but it isn't like he doesn't know the two of them. He is not a foreign coach who wants to get his equation right with Kohli and Rohit. So it was a good opportunity for him to try out the new players, and Rohit and Kohli could play when the home season begins. I'm not saying it is a wrong approach, but it could have been one of the strategies in this series.”

As per reports:

Morne Morkel has been appointed the bowling coach of senior India men's team. His contract is set to start from September 1.

VVS Laxman Likely To Continue As NCA Head – Reports

Former Indian middle-order batter VVS Laxman is all set to continue as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). According to a report in ESPNCricinfo on Thursday (August 15), Laxman, whose three-year contract was coming to an end in September, will extend his term by at least a year.

As per the latest information, the former Indian batter, who played in 134 Test matches during his 16-year-long international career, is likely to be assisted by his team of coaches, including Shitanshu Kotak, Sairaj Bahutule, and Hrishikesh Kanitkar.

The news of the extension of Laxman’s contract comes ahead of the inauguration of a new state-of-the-art NCA campus on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

Earlier, during an interview with the Times of India, BCCI secretary Jay Shah also hinted about Laxman’s extension by saying, “His contract ends in September, but he will continue.”

Laxman was appointed as NCA head after Rahul Dravid left the job to join Team India as head coach in 2021. In the last three years, apart from heading the NCA, Laxman has also served as India’s interim head coach for a few white-ball series in Dravid’s absence. His latest assignment with the Men in Blue was during the five-match tour of Zimbabwe last month.

Under his guidance, the Shubman Gill-led side managed to get the better of Sikandar Raza & Co. by a margin of 4-1.

It was reported last month that Laxman is not keen to extend his contract, and in his place, former India batting coach Vikram Rathour is likely to take the charge. There were also reports that Laxman is in talks with IPL franchises for the role of mentor. But now that role is not possible because of his NCA duties.

If Laxman signs an extension, then he is likely to travel with the Indian team as head coach to South Africa for a four-match T20I series in November. Gautam Gambhir is India’s head coach, but he will be travelling to Australia with the senior team at that time to prepare for the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy that starts on November 22 in Perth.

Coach Ryan ten Doeschate keen on making India batters best players of spin again

India's assistant coach, Ryan ten Doeschate, believes that a shift in focus towards playing high-quality fast bowling may have resulted in declining returns against spin for a squad that has traditionally been strong against the turning ball. Ten Doeschate is determined to restore the Indian cricket team's historical prowess against spin bowling.

The Dutchman pointed out that India's emphasis on tackling high-quality fast bowling, particularly in challenging overseas conditions, may have inadvertently led to a decline in their ability to handle spin. This shift in focus was glaringly exposed during the recent ODI series against Sri Lanka, where India, despite fielding a near full-strength squad, lost 27 wickets to spin across three matches. This is the most wickets any team has lost to spin in a three-match ODI series.

"One of the challenges I wasn't expecting, and I kind of overlooked, is the playing of spin by Indian batters," ten Doeschate told TalkSport Cricket. "We got undone in Sri Lanka."

Ten Doeschate, along with fellow assistant coaches Morne Morkel and Abhishek Nayar, has been tasked with addressing this issue. While Morkel's focus will be on the bowling department, ten Doeschate and Nayar will concentrate on improving the batting lineup, particularly against spin.

"The mindset of India has been such that they've been so desperate to do well overseas," ten Doeschate explained. "The focus has moved to doing well in Australia, England, [so] that we've kind of let playing spin, which was always a strength of the Indian team, fall back a little bit. That's one thing I'm looking forward to helping with – getting to that position where Indians are the best players of spin in the world again."

Ten Doeschate emphasized that the remedial work would not be overly technical but rather focused on mental preparedness and situational awareness. "I don't think much of what we're going to bring is technical knowledge to these guys," he said. "It's more about mindsets, situational awareness, [and] how we think they can control certain phases of the game. [It's about] throwing ideas out there, debriefing, and keeping the mental space really good. That's going to be really important."

As he embarks on this new role, ten Doeschate is aware of the challenges ahead, particularly given the team's recent success, including their World Cup triumph. However, he remains excited about the future, with significant milestones on the horizon, including the World Test Championship (WTC) final, the Champions Trophy, and the next T20 World Cup.

"In terms of what's ahead for the next 18 months, it's mouth-watering as a coach," ten Doeschate remarked. "It's all the series you want to be involved in and all the challenges you want to come up against."

India men’s cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir picked his all-time World XI comprising of players he has played against. Gambhir did not pick the likes of Ricky Ponting, Glenn McGrath and others as he named his World XI. He did not specify who will be the captain of the side but picked three captains in South Africa’s AB de Villiers, West Indies’ Brian Lara and Pakistan’s Inzamam-ul-Haq.

In an interaction with Sportskeeda, Gambhir picked three Australian and Pakistan players each. Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden were picked as openers. They were followed by De Villiers and Lara. Former Pakistan captain Inzamam followed them in the middle order.

The three all-rounders in the side are Australia’s Andrew Symonds, Pakistan’s Abdul Razzaq and England’s Andrew Flintoff. Razzaq’s inclusion was a surprise as he seldom makes it to World XIs. The only specialist spinner in the side is the highest wicket-taker in Tests and ODIs, Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan.

The two fast bowlers are Pakistan’s Shoaib Akhtar and South Africa’s Morne Morkel who is also India’s newly appointed bowling coach.

No player from New Zealand, Bangladesh made it to Gambhir’s World XI.

Gambhir’s World XI: Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, AB de Villiers, Brian Lara, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Andrew Symonds, Abdul Razzaq, Andrew Flintoff, Muttiah Muralitharan, Shoaib Akhtar, Morne Morkel.

Numbers behind absence of New Zealand and Bangladesh players

Gambhir has a good record against Bangladesh and New Zealand in ODIs. He has scored 592 runs from 11 innings at an average of 59.20 against Bangladesh. He has scored two centuries and three fifties against them as well. In Tests, he has scored 381 runs from six innings at an average of 76.20 including two centuries and one fifty.

Against the Kiwis, he has played 10 ODIs and scored 442 runs at an average of 73.77 including two centuries and a half-century. In Tests, Gambhir has scored 749 runs from 16 innings against the BlackCaps at an average of 53.50 including two centuries and four fifties.

Gambhir’s first home assignment

After a T20I series win and a disappointing ODI series loss on Sri Lankan soil, Gambhir’s first home assignment is against Bangladesh in the two-Test series starting September 19.

Ryan ten Doeschate: 'We are trying to push the limits of what we can do'

"Hundred per cent, I think it has shown in the way we have played. The Test match in Kanpur is a great example."

"We are trying to push the limits of what we can do as a team. We have obviously got the quality to do it. And then it's about giving the players the belief to do it in a safe space, that if it's not going to go right, it's also okay. And even if you look back at the first two games, someone like Sanju [Samson] getting a quick start in the first game in Gwalior, it would have been easy for him to knock it around and just get a 50-60 not out. But you can see he was trying to push the boundary. He knows the state of the game, and the messaging has been pretty consistent with that."

"We want the guys to expand their game. We want to move cricket forward, like it's going with the times. And we want to be prepared for the big crunch moments that are coming up in the next 18 months."

"You see the way the game is going, it's very rare that all five bowlers, or even six bowlers, are going to go well on a given day," ten Doeschate said. "So it's nice to have options. Ideally, you want them to bowl a little bit more, but someone like Hardik not bowling in the last game, it's just a testament to the depth of the bowling in the team."

"That was always the plan. Obviously, there's a nice depth in the squad - a lot of guys have the IPL experience. We are trying to expose as many guys as we can to international experience with what we have coming up. So someone like Harshit Rana, we are keen to give a game to. Obviously, Tilak [Varma] came into the squad a bit later. Jitesh [Sharma] is there as well. We want to give Sanju another chance. So there are options."

"Certainly the data and the evidence is around that [a high-scoring game]. But a little bit like when we got to Delhi the other day, you don't want to read too much into the data. We probably feel that those first three wickets we lost was maybe because of going a little too hard. The wicket was a little bit sticky."

"So we will have a look at this wicket. We are aware of the high-scoring nature of this pitch during the IPL but also we are five months away from the IPL now. So conditions could change as well. Fingers crossed, it's a high-scoring game and a quality game."

Never expected easy run as coach: Gambhir on rocky start to India tenure

Gautam Gambhir claimed that he wasn't expecting a very easy run for him as the India coach after a rocky start to his tenure. Gambhir replaced Rahul Dravid as the head coach following India's T20 World Cup win after the fine work he had done as the mentor of KKR in the IPL 2024 season. Gambhir would have a great start to life as India won their T20I series against Sri Lanka away from home but it was followed a 2-0 loss in the ODIs against the same opponents.

India would then win the Test and T20I series against Bangladesh, but the home series loss to New Zealand meant that the start for the former opener hasn't been a great one. Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the Mumbai Test, Gambhir said that it was not a good spot to be in after losing the series to the Blackcaps and all they could do is keep working hard and look to win every game they play.

"I never expected a very easy run for me. I know that we lost in Sri Lanka and against NZ and it is not a good place to be. All we can do is keep working hard and we will try winning every game that we play to represent the country," said Gambhir.

Gambhir also said stressed the need for empathy while dealing with players under pressure to perform.

"I realise its a complete different thing when you were playing and now as a coach, need to put your arm around the players."

Gambhir also confirmed that there were no new faces in the India squad, after reports had emerged that Harshit Rana was going to be included and given a debut in Mumbai. The India coach said that they're not in a situation to think about such a call and Harshit is in the side to prepare for the Australia tour.

"We are not in a situation where can think of that ,"

"Harshit Rana is not part of the squad. He has just come here to prepare for the Australia tour, Abhishek made it clear yesterday. IPL retention has nothing to be spoken about, we have a Test match here."

"Everyone is available for selection, we will take a call tomorrow," said Gambhir.

After the New Zealand series, Gambhir's next big Test will be the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, which will begin on November 22.
